  • I need help ASAP...my 15 year old wants to go on Birth Control, what do I do?

My daughter just turned 15 last month. She's this great kid who's always been very active in school, and a great student.

Problem is, she just started dating this boy (he's a senior, she's a freshman) a month ago and all of a sudden she thinks she's "ready" to have sex with him.

She's never been alone with him for more than 10 minutes at a time. All their "dating" has taken place at our house-she hasn't been allowed to go on an actual "date" with him.

I know that he's constantly sending her texts and emails telling her how much he "needs" her, and I'm so afraid that she's just caving into the pressure.

We've always talked openly with her about sex, and I'm glad (I guess) that she talked to me about this, and I kept my cool when she talked to me tonight, but honestly, I'm so desperate to keep her from making this HUGE mistake. Can ANYone give me some advice?

  • How do you stop fuming after your teenager has thoroughly ticked you off?

Tonight my husband and I caught our 15 year old in the typical "tell my parents I one place while I sneak off to another" lie. Now she's grounded, and we confiscated her cell phone, but man! I am just fuming! She's a really good kid normally and this is the first time she's done something like this. We gave her a long stern lecture and everything but I just can't seem to wind down from it. It's 1:30 in the morning and I'm still so upset I can't go to sleep. I keep telling myself "She's a good kid...she's a good kid..." but I just feel like I'm going to lose it! I gotta' settle down.

Any advice out there? Thanks in advance.

  • My friend is going to be taking his citizenship oath next week. What is a good gift to get him?

He's worked towards this for 13 years and next week (Tues) he's taking his US citizenship oath. I'm so happy for him, what would be a good gift for him? A bunch of us at work are throwing him a little party with balloons and a cake ( made to look like a flag). I'd like to get him a little something, what would you suggest? He's an Indian Sikh if that makes any difference.

    Thank you in advance.

  • Are there any Indian Sikhs here?

My new boss is an Indian Sikh, and I'm unfamiliar with the religion (and the culture). Is there anything I should know so as not to offend him?

Also, what can I do to help him and his family feel welcome? They purchased the business I work at. This is a small, predominately white christian town. Already there's been a lot of nasty talk from small minded jerks about "those people"...Any advice?

  • Lesbians, forgive me if this has been asked before, but?

do you find it offensive to be described as being "butch" or "feminine"?

  • Do you think the media has compromised the murder investigation of Annie Le?

Or the future trial? I was watching GMA this morning and they reported in depth on the investigation, including going into detail on all the police evidence gathered so far, and what they had on the "person of interest", Ronnie Clark.

Doesn't this compromise the investigation? What about if it goes to trial?

  • Atheists, what would you have done?

My husband and I went out for dinner last night this really nice out-of-the-way, mom and pop Thai place. Now, it's not very often that we get to go out without the kids, but they were all staying at friends houses last night, so we were kind of pumped to have an actual "date". We went fairly early and there was only one other couple there that were finishing up their meal. The waitress sat us down two tables away. We placed our order and our food got there pretty quickly. So we started eating and pretty soon the other couple got up to leave (I thought) but instead approached our table. The man handed my husband a tract (yes, a friggin' TRACT) and said " Excuse me, but I'd really like you to have this...this little pamphlet is really interesting!" The woman just stood there with this big grin on her face.

My husband glanced at it and thanked the man "anyway" and told him that he might as well take it back because he wasn't interested and would just throw it away.

(The man raised his eyebrows and woman suddenly looked concerned) He asks "Why, would you do such a thing?" and we told him we didn't believe in God.

(The man's eyes got wide and the woman audibly gasped) and of course we got the predictable "Aren't you afraid of hell?"

So of course my husband (without missing a beat) says "I'm there right now sir." (I tried really hard not to snicker...honest)

The guy either didn't catch the barb, or didn't care and he asks my husband if he's heard of jesus christ. (The woman started smiling again and my husband and I rolled our eyes at each other)

So I say (in a pretty snippy tone, because I'm getting kind of pi$$ed) "Look, if you don't mind, we'd just like to enjoy our dinner, so GOOD BYE"

So the man says "Of course" and tells us that they would pray for us and they left.

Note: they did NOT apologize for intruding on our meal or interrupting our conversation.

So I ask my fellow atheists, how would YOU have handled it? Am I wrong that this was incredibly rude and presumptuous?

  • How much do you normally spend on groceries each week?

Tell me the size of your family, and how much you normally spend on groceries each week. Do you think you spend too much, or are you comfortable with that amount?

We are a family of five and I spend about $100 every week on groceries. I know that's not an enormous amount, but we raise a lot of our own food, and it helps that my oldest child is a vegetarian (I'm a demi-vegetarian) so we all eat meat-free frequently.

  • We've never eaten Indian food before, some advice?

Our family has never eaten Indian Food, and we decided that we are going to try it for the first time this coming weekend. What are some "beginner dishes" you can recommend, keeping in mind that we have three children, ages 9, 11 and 14. My husband and I like our food fairly spicy, but the kids prefer theirs fairly mild. We'd appreciate some recommendations and some "pointers",

    Thanks!

  • Atheists, does it concern you at all that christians believe morality comes from the Bible?

It scares the snot out of me that apparently the only thing keeping them from going on a murderous rampage is that book.

  • I've got a busted wiener...now what?

We've have a miniature dachsund (9 years old) who threw out her back a couple of months ago. She got better from that episode, but two weeks ago threw out her back again (the vet said after the first time, that it would become a chronic issue with her). We have her on strong pain meds just so she can walk (otherwise she drags her back legs) and the vet has recommended giving her a small amount of milk daily for the calcium (as long as she doesn't throw it up). Basically, he said she may or may not get better, only time will tell. It's been two weeks and there has been no improvement.

We carry her out to the yard for her to do her business and then back in again. Carry her to her food bowl. The pain meds make her pee a lot, so we've had a lot of messes on the floor, and despite all this, she seems happy and the medicine is controlling her pain.

My question is, what do I do now? As long as there is a chance she's going to get at least a little better, I want her to have that...but I don't want the rest of her (or our) lives to be spent cleaning up the pee and carrying her everywhere. What would you do? How long would you wait before putting her to sleep? I hate to think about it, but if she's not getting any better, I don't know what other option we have.

  • Does anyone else feel a little sad when they see John McCain?

Just to be clear, I voted for Obama, but I like John McCain. Always have. If he had been the same as he was back in 2000, I would have voted for him without a second thought (assuming he didn't choose Palin for his running mate). I was kind of disappointed that Obama didn't give him a spot in his cabinet.
