If Sodium Fluoride is a neuro-developmental toxin (speculated because of its effects on the thyroid) then how is it that kids who swallow toothpaste have even average IQ?

With harmful chemicals abundant in the world, from lead in paint, toys, juice, sodium fluoride in drinking water and toothpaste, mercury in thermometers, and the thousands of other neurotoxic agents, I do not understand how anyone has even "normal" intelligence (as a measure of IQ from previous generations). If the human brain is so vulnerable to toxic exposure during development, how does any even have sufficient intelligence to care for themselves?
