ran this through bartleby.com and didn't get any hits.
2 AnswersQuotations7 years agoPopulation growth in an isolated human society?
I'm working on a novel in which a group of people start their own society on a remote island. For simplicity's sake, they're evenly balanced, eight males and eight females, all in good health and virile/fertile. Everyone wants to be there and to grow the society -- they share religious/philosophical ideals.
Assuming no immigration or emigration, and adequate natural resources to support them, but an average family size of 3-4 children (they're religious, but not obsessed with 'be fruitful and multiply), how large can I expect my island civilization to be 100 years later?
Thanks.
3 AnswersAnthropology7 years agoPutting a router in bridge mode/port forwarding -- effect on other computers?
We have a Motorola NVG510 through U-Verse. I need stronger signal at the south end on the house. I'm thinking of reprogramming another router because it's cheaper than buying a repeater.
However, if I do this, will my roommate still be able to hook up directly to the router with an ethernet cable (his preferred way of doing it)? When people visit, will their laptops be getting their signal from the second router?
Short story short, I don't want to do this at a cost to other users.

List 'em below. I know it's a rarity, but there's got to be one or two out there.

2 AnswersMovies7 years agoName for a particular kind of scarf?
I'm looking on eBay for a scarf that was popular in the early 2000s. They were large and square (about 3 ft x 3 ft), bright solid colors, open weave with a fringe at the edges, delicate material like silk or rayon. You could wear them as a wrap but most women just piled them around the neck. Now it's like the Style Police have confiscated them all! A specific search term would help. Thanks

1 AnswerOther - Electronics10 years agoCan a washing machine be transported on its 'back'?
I've heard some appliances have to be transported upright. But I have a pickup truck with a camper shell and 'lying down' is the only way this machine would fit. It'd only have to go about 20 miles.

Is it called an office, or is there a different term?
2 AnswersMilitary10 years agoLemon juice for descaling espresso maker?
I'm reading that a lot of people use lemon juice instead of buying citric acid. My manual recommends two spoonfuls (30g) in a liter of water. Does that ratio hold for lemon juice? More? Less?
Or do you recommend buying the citric acid?
Thanks!
2 AnswersNon-Alcoholic Drinks10 years agoLooking for a Nagant m1895 aficionado...?
I have several questions about this fascinating gun. First, I've heard it's dicey to use S&W Longs in this gun. But what can actually go wrong when you do? Is the malfunction dangerous to the shooter, or merely an inconvenience?
Second, the way the gun closes the cylinder gap upon firing, does that mean there is no residue on the shooter's hand from firing it?
These are theoretical questions, incidentally, for a work of fiction. Best Answer will be chosen, unless no one answers sincerely. Thanks.
1 AnswerHunting1 decade agoTracFone service for a very old cell phone ..?
I have a Nokia 8210 currently, and have TracFone service for it. I love it, it's fantastically reliable and inexpensive.
I see other Nokia 8210s on eBay, factory refurbished. If I buy one, can I then contact TracFone to register it and get service? I'd take this question to RadioShack or similar, but they'd just give me a hard sell on an expensive smartphone with a monthly contract. I'm not a Luddite, but when something really works well, why pay more?
Thanks, J.

I know that July and August are in the dry season, but does the air feel dry, like the western U.S., or humid, like the deep South? Thank you in advance.
4 AnswersHonolulu1 decade agoEye disorder that would prevent reading/allow driving?
In the process of writing a screenplay, I need to find a disorder of the eyes that would prevent my main character from reading and working on computers easily, but allow him to still see people and things around him, and drive. It's best if it's not something easily fixed by medication or surgery, since this is a life-altering event for him.
Will vote on a best answer. Thanks.
3 AnswersOptical1 decade agoMy dog has an e.coli bladder infection?
She's asymptomatic and seems fine and happy. The infection was found through routine screening. The vet says some practitioners prefer to just let an asymptomatic e.coli infection alone, but she wanted to treat with antibiotics. I said OK.
We re-screened after that, and it hadn't gone away. She suggested another course of different antibiotics, or just cranberry extract. I went with cranberry extract. The infection still hasn't gone away. The dog still seems fine.
The vet now wants to talk about where we go next. Before I call her back, I thought I should do some research. Has anybody else had this problem? How'd you treat -- or did you? -- and how'd it work? Of course I'm going to listen to my vet's advice, I just want a broader perspective.
Dogs1 decade agoInjuries sustained in handgun malfunctions?
What kind of handgun malfunctions can injure the shooter, not the person being aimed at? I've read about squibs and hang fires, but they seem more likely to injure a second party, not the person holding the gun. When shooters get injured, how does it commonly happen? (I will pick a best answer, so thanks in advance).

1 AnswerOther - Science1 decade agoDoes this sound like a battery issue?
My Ford F-150 hasn't seen a lot of use in the past 2 months, and I think this might have adversely affected the battery. It starts, and it'll drive fine, but then when I turn off the engine (to go into a store, etc), it won't start again. Everything electrical is dead, the ignition doesn't even crank. After about a half-hour rest, it's fine again.
Would replacing the battery be the best place to start?
7 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoMac question: Using the Admin account on daily basis?
I'm the only user of my laptop, so there's only one account, mine, and it has Admin privileges. I read that if you're having problems with your Mac, the issue can be rooted in something you downloaded, etc., and it's best to have a second account so you can see if the problem clears up when you log out of your account and into your backup. Is it best to have that second account be the 'admin' account, and to have it remain relatively unused, with original settings, etc? Or does it not matter which account has the Admin privileges? Thanks.
3 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoLatin scholars: cordem vs. corde?
Please help settle a debate. I think the translation for "You are in my heart" is "In cordem meum es," whereas a friend thinks it's "In corde meo es." 'In' takes the accusative generally, doesn't it?
