I consider myself an even handed individual. In general, I don't believe in conspiracies and I'm very skeptical in nature. I best fit into the category of an agnostic. How I interpret agnosticism: The meaning of the word can best be rendered in its roots: A (without) Gnosis (knowledge). For me, the word does not indicate that I am "on the fence," as that would seem to imply that I am ambivalent. Such is not the case. It is a matter of certainty. While I lack belief in god(s), I cannot conclude that god(s) doesn't exist. I have no way of establishing any level of certainty over the matter because there simply is no way to obtain that knowledge. I am, however, a Historian. I have discovered that a variety of different cultures have espoused the existence of different gods. If you'd like to know anything else about me, I'm very open. Please feel free to ask!
Why are women so beautiful?
Yes, I know about the evolutionary biology: that we men are wired in the desire for genetically fit women capable of bearing healthy children. But this reason doesn't seem to grasp the essence of their beauty.

This question is for you women out there.
I've had a girlfriend for almost a year: my longest relationship yet. I want to do something special for her, but I don't have a great deal of cash (who does these days?). Do any women out there have any good, creative ideas for an affordable activity or way to celebrate this event?
Thank you.

I'm constantly charged with being a Marxist once my atheism is made known. So I'm curious, how many atheists out there actually support a Marxist ideology?

8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoChristians: How did Judas die?
I want to see what kind of creative answers I can get.
According to Matthew 27:3-8 (NIV):
When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” “What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.” So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself. The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.” So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day.
In Acts 1:18-19 (NIV):
With the payment he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.
I see three contradictions.
1) In Matthew, the priests purchased the field. In Acts, Judas purchased the field.
2) In Matthew, the field is called the "Field of Blood" because it was purchased with "Blood money." In Acts, the field is called the "Field of Blood" because Judas bled all over it.
3) And the obvious one you've been waiting for: In Matthew, Judas hanged himself. In Acts, Judas "fell headlong," then "burst open" and his "intestines spilled out" on the field.
So far I've heard some creative responses to reconcile number 3: maybe Judas' hanging body fell from the rope and, on landing, split open his body where his intestines fell out. Or maybe Judas tried to hang himself, but that didn't work, so he jumped off a platform and dived into the field, where he split open and his intestines fell out. Any others?

6 AnswersPolitics9 years agoAre there any Muslims or Jews on here with Near Death Experiences?
Hello theists,
As an atheist, I commonly hear about Christian near death experiences (which include visions of Jesus) and view them with major skepticism. However, I've heard a about a few NDE's from Muslims and Jews which include no visions of Jesus. Considering my own lack of faith in a figure like Jesus, I'm trying to expand research in this area. Are there any Muslims or Jews in this R&S section that have had a NDE?
And no, I'm not trying to be disrespectful. I'm just curious.
