Zephyr is the Shiznik
I'm a proud bully owner.. I own two American Pit Bull Terriers (aka AmStaffs) Zephyr- 2 year old male (neut) Chansey- 4 year old Female (spayed) and... Rosie-lee- 3 year old Am. Staff Monster- Min Pin Puppy I also have 5 cats, all rescues, and a corn snake to boot. I work as an Animal Control Officer. I see abused pit bulls every day who can still manage to give me tons of kisses, and just want to be loved. I also see these same pit bulls put to sleep because there isn't enough demand for them in this state. If I could take them all home, I would ;-( My pastimes include fighting BSL, and making the world a better place for dog owners by pushing for better legislation, and more dog parks. Adopt a bully today!! See my pup's page at: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/524654
Which Dog registry do you prefer?
I personally prefer UKC due to their "Total Dog" concept, and the plethora of dog sports they offer. I can't wait to enter my APBT in their squirrel hunts, lure coursing, and weight pull. Not to mention the agility and obedience titles I'm planning for :)
Both registries, IMHO, have a lot of issues with paper hanging (faking papers), especially certain breeds.
5 AnswersDogs1 decade agoOpinions on ear cropping affecting the chances of championing a UKC APBT?
Planning on getting a UKC American Pit Bull Terrier to show. On the fence about cropping her ears, for obvious reasons. I see that the top dogs in the country right now have cropped ears... what are your thoughts?
2 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWhat are your opinions on this site?
Delmarvakennels.com
They are local to me, and I plan to get a puppy from them in the very near future. The dam hasn't been bred yet, but she is Sapphire, and the Sire is Boomer. I am aware of the lack of health testing, though the foundation bit*h is over 10 years of age, and still free of any HD, cataracts, etc. Also, the sister of Sapphire (Star) went thru all her tests, and was OFA cleared as excellent.
Thanks for any opinions!
4 AnswersDogs1 decade agoDog registries for American Pit Bull Terriers?
Anyone have any experience with the following registries:
ADBA- American Dog Breeders Association
UKC- United Kennel Club
APBR- American Pit Bull registry
Which are more reliable and reputable?
Thanks.
5 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHelp with Min pin age guessing...?
I just got a min pin, female, stag red in color. She is AKC reg, and supposedly a week pregnant. When I looked more closely at her after bringing her home, I noticed that her teeth are very nasty, and she's missing one front tooth. She also has small white hairs distributed throughout her coat. I was told (and her AKC paperwork says) she's 3 years old. (born Jan 10, 2006) ANYWAY.. now I'm questioning the whole deal. I believe she is purebred. Someone took the time to dock her ears and tail, and remove her dewclaws and wolf claws. (not that I prefer it.. just stating the facts.) Can anyone tell me if the tooth decay and white hairs are normal for a 3 year old? I'd also like to file a complaint with the AKC about the prior owner. But would I then lose registration on her? or could they track it down? If she does have pups, it would be nice if I could prove they are truly purebred pins. Thanks for any advice.
2 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWho believes in Breed Specific Legislation?
Please take a bit to fill this out. Make it as basic or detailed as you want to.
Breed Specific Legislation is the enactment of laws to restrict ownership of a breed or group of dogs based on their appearance/heritage only, as opposed to restricting based on temperament or deeds.
1. Do you think it is an effective way to control Dog bites/fatalities?
2. Do you think it is fair to responsible dog owners?
3. What level would you approve? Basic requirements like liability insurance and restraint laws? Or complete eradication? Or something in between?
4. What effect do you think it would have on Animal Control/law enforcement?
5. Can you think of other ways to protect people from TRULY vicious dogs?
6. What is your opinion of "pit bulls" in general?
7. Have you ever personally met a "pit bull"... if so, what was your impression of the dog(s) you met?
8. Have you ever been bitten by an animal? If so, what kind, and if possible, what breed?
9. Do you live in an area with Breed Specific Legislation?
10. If so, how has it affected you?
Thanks!!
14 AnswersDogs1 decade agoIs it illegal to drive through Ohio with Pit Bulls?
I'm driving to Indianapolis this month, and I'd like to take my 2 pit bulls with me. But, I can't find anywhere online whether someone passing through Ohio is subject to their RIDICULOUS "dangerous" dog laws.
7 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHow illegal is it to marry an immigrant so that they can stay in the US?
Like, I would marry him for a couple months and then divorce. Also, how much would that affect my taxes, etc? How much does INS investigate these things? I have no Idea what to do. as he's a friend, not a romantic interest, I feel bad that he would have to go back to his original country. any suggestions?
15 AnswersImmigration1 decade agoGetting a version.. do they hurt?
My little Sofia is in breech, and I'm 36 weeks pregnant. They're going to do a Version if she hasn't flipped over by the 2nd... the doc says I can get an epidural.. Does the version hurt that badly? or do I get the epi because it makes it easier to flip her? Also, how likely would it be for them to induce me if she is flipped over? Thanks!
6 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoShould my fiance go to all appointments he possibly can?
I'm 22, and I'm 36 weeks pregnant. At about week 30, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and so I have twice weekly non-stress tests to check on baby Sofia. My fiance often avoids going to the tests, even the ones where they check my fluid levels through ultrasound, and he would get a peek at the baby. He started off going to every appointment possible, so what's up now? I've been hearing bad news every time I go alone, and I'd really like him there to support me. First, I was diabetic, then a breech. Now my platelets are low, and I have high blood pressure. If I ask him why he doesn't come, he says they're boring. I know they are.. but I'm bored, too, and worried.. shouldn't he be there for me? Or am I just being hormonal? I can't wait for the baby, and I know he's looking forward to her as well... but why the sudden shift in interest? help!
8 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoGirl names starting with J!?
We had a boy's name all planned out to be James.. but found out we're having a girl! (yay!) We'd like a simple but sweet girl name, that's not too hard to spell, and preferably starts with a J. (Mommy and daddy are Jayna and Josh)
The last name is "Kemp" btw!

9 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWhat are the negatives for using a pack-and-play as an infant's primary bed?
We don't really have the $$ or room for a whole crib ensemble... I like the pack and plays because they look comfy, sturdy, and they're a bit more compact than a normal crib.
However, there must be some reason that not everyone buys them for use as a baby's primary bed... so if you can give me any reasons why/why not.. that would be awesome.
Oh, and we have been looking at thrift stores for a used crib as well.. nothing yet! :)
13 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agomy tiel drives me NUTS!!!?
I love him to death, but lately he has developed a habit of chirping his distress chirp CONSTANTLY, whether we are trying to sleep, watch TV, or anything. We live in the first floor of a house converted to an apartment, and there's really no wehree to put him but outside to get away from the noise. We've tried giving him attention, treats, new toys, everything, but hte episodes are getting more frequent!! I often want to KILL him because it's so frustrating having an earsplitting noise you can't stop!
Anyone else deal with this issue? If you know of causes or solutions, please let me know!! If I can't stop him within a reasonable amount of time, He's going to have to go to a new home. I have a baby on the way, and I can't have Bird waking it up all the time!!
Thanks!!
4 AnswersBirds1 decade agoBest formula for orphaned kittens?
I am fostering 3 4-day old kittens right now. They are all in good health (so far), and I am currently feeding them the formula "Just Born" from Farnam. I chose it because it has colostrum, and I'm pretty sure they didn't get it from their momma. (or much of it, anyway) So, if you have recommendations on a better formula, or additives that have been successful in raising newborn kittens, please help me out :)
I have raised kittens before, but never from a day old... and everyone at the shelter keeps telling me they're not going to make it... and about to euthanize them when I heard about them.. and I immediately took them home. They get fed about every hour, with a break of about 6 hours when I sleep, but they stay with me at work. (being an ACO helps)
THANKS!!
3 AnswersCats1 decade agoI'm about 14 weeks pregnant, and still haven't seen a doc?
my insurance was switched in April (Without notice!!) to a new flex-benefit thing, and I had to wait until yesterday to get my cards so that I could go to the doc. I have an appointment for next week, so hopefully all will be well.
Are there any important tests or anything that I missed and can't catch up on? I'd hate to think that the stupidity of my employer will hurt the baby in the long run!!
Thanks ahead of time for any info you can provide!
5 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoNew "Taste of the Wild" food from diamond?
I'm starting my 2 pit bulls and my Great dane back on the raw diet again.. primarily consisting of chicken quarters with some skin removed (less fat). I also want to put them on a premium kibble (grain free) I used to use Innova EVO, but it keeps going up in price!! I just found this new food, taste of the wild, and it's grain free. It comes in several varieties, like a prarie diet, a highlands diet, etc. I chose the prarie diet with bison and venison (as well as some lamb). I was wondering if anyone else has used this brand, and the results they saw. Also, if anyone feeds kibble anad raw, then what sort of portioning do you use? I was thinking a quarter per pit bull, and a cup of the kibble, and double for the dane. ( I will also supplement with different meats, liver and other organ meats and some veggies.. and def. pumpkin pulp.. but chicken will be the main meat)
I will add in more info if asked..
BTW, the pit bulls weigh in at about 60 bs, and the dane is about 100
3 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWho HATES low-rise jeans?
To me, they're a fashion trend only suitable for the super-thing among us.. and even then, I'm always seeing cracks peeking out when the wearer bends, sits, of sneezes.
If you're the least bit pudgy, your "spare tire" hangs out over the pants, and if you're wearing a tight shirt.. Well, the results are not appealing. Also, the waist line on the pants accentuates the widest part of the hips.. and makes you look fatter than you are!!
I think the only benefit to these pants is that your tummy isn't compressed shile sitting, like in the really, really high-waist jeans. Which I don't like either.. I like the nice, mid-rise, slightly stretchy fit.. and It seems to match up better with all those darn short shirts that are sold right next to the short pants..
Anyone else agree and want to rant?
12 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade ago99 Plymouth Neon with possible shock or strut issues...?
Ok.. my Neon has been sounding odd. It clicks and pops when it is taken into a turn too quickly, and it sounds like it's coming from the right (pass) side of the car. yesterday, I noticed that while in my driveway, it was sitting weird. (hardly noticable, tho) I used my fist to measure the distance between the fender panel and the the tire, and it was about 41/2 inches apart on the passenger side, and about 3 inches apart on the driver side (both rear tires) I measured again on a level surface at the mall, and it was the same. I've been thinking it's my struts or shocks, and I was wondering if anyone else had a clue.. and an estimate of the cost to fix? I will give more details if asked :)
Thanks!
(I posted this yesterday when YA was not working.. hope I get answers this time ^^)
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoPregnant Animal Control Officer.. what are your experiences w/ rough jobs and pregnancy?
I'm quite worried about my career as an ACO.. I do a lot of heavy lifting, as well as many other hazards such as aggressive dogs and people. I'm now on the overnight shift, where I work 7pm-7am.. and there are very few calls (and I get to sleep!) The trouble is, any calls that come in this late are usually police assists, aggressive dogs, or hit by cars (heavy lifting). I'm approx. 11 weeks along w. my first. The KCSPCA just switched their insurance on the 1st of April, so I have to wait at least a few more days before my card gets here to make an appointment to speak to an OB-GYN for the 1st time.
Anyway, my question is mostly how I should deal with the job and the pregnancy.. and how long should I work? I can go on to dispatch (probably) until I have the baby, but I haven't discussed this w/ my employer yet as I want to confirm a healthy pregnancy 1st.
Then, once I have the kid, I want to breastfeed for quite a long time (a year or more).. and I'm wondering how to (cont.)
