For my summer reading project, I read the book That Was Then, This is Now, by S.E. Hinton. My favorite character in the book is Bryon, because he’s a responsible person. For an example Bryon lets mark stay in his house because his parents had been killed when mark was very little, He would always looked out for mark and make sure he didn’t get into any trouble. When Cathy’s brother M&M, runs away Bryon spends days looking for him because he felt bad that Cathy was so upset. Bryon takes care of the people that need him, and knows how to tell from right and wrong. At the end of the book, Byron discovers that mark had a stash of pills under his bed he had been selling on the streets to help get money for Bryon’s mom and their house. Bryon knew what mark was doing was wrong and he called the police. When mark got home Bryon told him the police were on their way, mark was arrested and never saw Bryon again. In a quote from the book Bryon says “he could have talked all night and I wouldn’t have changed my mind. This was wrong.” His best quality is being responsible, with all the bad influences around him Bryon knows when something is bad, and when someone does something wrong. He looks out for the people around him and always tries to be his own best.
