  • Can someone help me with some wordplay?

My son is making a card with little owls dressed in super hero costumes for teacher appreciation week. (The teacher loves owls my son super heroes) :) . I'm looking for some simple cute wording to put inside and possibly on the front of the card. Hopefully something that relates to the owls and the super heroes. Any suggestions?

For example over Christmas we wrote "Owl miss you during vacation"

  • Do you see a difference between bullying and teasing?

Is every instance of name calling, teasing or being inconsiderate really bullying? If you see a difference how do you draw the line?

  • Makeup, teens and race. Do different races choose differently?

I am not racist, but in the people I can observe it seems to be a pattern that white teens are able to wear more makeup and at an earlier age. I noticed this in my friends growing up and am seeing the same pattern in an entirely different area with my daughter's friends. Is this true in the people that you know? Any RESPECTFUL thoughts as to why that might be the case?

  • Goal not met, should he still be rewarded?

Reading the title it may seem obvious to say no, but the specifics leave me uncertain. My 11 year old set a goal for himself the get straight A's. FOR HIMSELF As a reward I agreed to buy him a membership to our local rec center (about $200 just for him). The grading period ended Friday and in checking his grades he just missed his goal by literally 1%. He has all A+s and As excluding Reading where he has a 91% which equals a B+ a 92% would be an A-.

I am torn because the report card will still be something to be proud and that 1% is so insignificant to me. He is already a bit of a perfectionist and I don't want to make him feel like he has to be perfect. I think he deserves the membership, but am I sending mixed messages by rewarding him when he didn't truly meet the goal. In the long run will doing things like that make him feel that close enough to a goal or standard is good enough? Would you answer be the same if it were 2%? 3%? More?

  • Do you think there are diagnosis "fads"?

Don't get me wrong, I am not one of those who don't believe that these things exist at all. I know better than that. I do believe there are legitimate cases of certain disorders, however I feel some things are largely over-diagnosed. Why are we as a society so eager to slap a label on everything that breathes? A child with energy? Must have ADHD. Shy child? Autism.

I can't tell you how many questions I have read hear asking is it ADD/ADHD/Autism or answers suggesting that it is because the child is doing completely age appropriate things. Why is that our first thought?

I almost wonder if the pharmaceutical companies aren't playing a big role. It seems that the answer for everything is to pop a very expensive pill. What better marketing strategy is it to create lifelong customers by getting them as early as possible right?

What is your take? Why does this happen?

  • Help w/ the perfect Michael Jackson song lyric please?

My daughter is a HUGE MJ fan and I am redo-ing her room. I found a very cute idea where you write song lyrics out in paint on a wall. I am looking for an excerpt of a song (a verse maybe) that I could use. Something that have some meaning and she would immediately identify as a MJ lyric. Any suggestions?

  • Is this too late to celebrate his birthday?

I was already planning to combine birthday parties for my daughter who will be 2 - September 20th and my son who will be 7 - September 30th. I am tentatively looking at either September 29th or 30th as party day. I've had a really rough year and my father has been an absolute blessing to me. We've really moved into a friendship and really talked to each other in a way we never did before.

He has made a few comments about the lack of observance of holidays that are important to him (birthday, Christmas, Father's day etc) by other family members. His birthday is September 5th. He's done a lot for me and I really would love to make a fuss over his birthday. I don't have the time, energy or money to plan a special party just for him but I would love to celebrate all 3 birthdays at once. I live about an hour and a half from the rest of the family and they really don't like to drive "way down here" that often. It would be great if we could get together one time. Is it too far past his birthday to include him with the kids?

  • Best styles for a shapely 14 year old?

With back to school shopping coming up I am stressing out. My 14 year old is very shapely and I have a hard time finding clothes that fit correctly and are trendy but still make her look 14 (and not like a 21 year old hooker). Tops in particular (she is a very full 38DD and could probably use a DDD). She is not on average overweight she is all boobs. Any suggestion for styles or stores that would fit the bill AND be affordable?

BQ- Where can I find appropriate sized bras that are supportive but look "non-surgical" she was very embarrassed last year in changing for gym class.
