  • Car insurance compared to small truck insurance?

I have a Honda Fit right now, but am interested in buying a new small four-wheel drive truck. How do insurance rates generally compare (in Ontario) between a subcompact car and a small truck?

  • In light of the 2 tragic massacres in the USA this week, when will Americans change the gun amendment?

I am not saying erase it, but it is not holy scripture, nor were the framers of the constitution divine saints. It is a man-made document. Isn't it time to stop and reconsider strengthening gun laws to protect the innocent, or will the future just hold more tragedies? When is enough, enough? I am a Canadian and constantly watch CNN. I pity this aspect of your country. Leave the guns in the hands of farmers and hunters, as well as sportsmen and law enforcement, but ban gun shows, and ownership of semi-automatics, etc., and put a graduated license on owning a gun, much like we have in Ontario for driving a car. I love you as our neighbours, but my heart goes out to all the families who will live as victims the rest of their lives over lost or shattered lives.

  • In the Dodge Ram 1500 e-commercials, are the celebrities real experts?

Are Jeff, Mike and Tracey real professionals, with published books, and TV shows or are they merely actors portraying experts? I am curious because I have never heard of them before. What are they famous for?

  • In light of the recent shooting massacre in Colorado, shouldn't gun laws be debated to reassess access?

I am a Canadian, to put things in context: I mourn with your nation for this recent tragedy in Aurora. I watch CNN for my news. There seem to be an increase in mass gun shootings in recent decades. Here in Canada, perhaps due to having only 1/10 of your population, as well as much stricter laws and a gun registry, we have had far fewer tragedies--but we have had some.

I believe farmers and hunters should have the ability to own guns, as well as our protective services. But in my humble opinion, I think your nation needs to debate guns laws at all levels of government, but especially Congress. I believe the Second Amendment needs amending. It was an amendment to begin with. And I see how some Americans--especially Evangelical Christians, of which I am one-- do not merely obey and honour your constitution, but worship it as if it were divine.. I interpret it to refer to the right to form militias, in the day it was written.

I do not want to sound crass, but the NRA is a one-issue driven organization which I believe is to promote the use of and sell guns, not merely uphold the right to own one. Where was an NRA follower or a gun carrier in Theatre 9 who had a gun and could had tried to defend all the innocent victims of that murderer? If you believe owning and carrying a gun is a right, how come no one had or used one then, which would be the most logical of times?

  • Can you tell me if I got food poisoning from a jar of mayo ?

Like all imperishables, I cannot keep them before use in the fridge. I had an unopened jar in the pantry while I used up the one in the fridge. When I needed the new one, I took it from the pantry, opened it and used it right away. I got the usual symptoms. Should I have put it in the fridge for a day to cool down first?

  • Which works out cheaper, is it cheaper to use as "kleenex" a box of 2-ply or a roll of toilet paper?

Let's say the box is Royale brand, 2 ply, 132 tissues, and it came in a package of 6 boxes @ $5.99.. The toilet paper is Charmin, one "double" roll has 176 2-ply sheets and comes in a package of 16 double rolls for $9.99. Four sheets of Charmin equals one Royale tissue. Which is more cost-saving for nose-blowing? This will help our family resolve a debate about which to buy more of. Thank you.

  • Why are healthcare insurance premiums rising at alarming rates according to some news outlets?

    1. Is it because insurance companies want to increase their profits as much as possible before the government health care bill caps rate increases as it is put in place over the next few years?

    2. Is it already a part of that health care bill that these premiums are going to rise with government permission?

    3. Is there another answer?

    4. Am I listening to the wrong newscasters?

Please, no opinions, and try to answer more with facts (plus citations) than anecdotes.

I am Canadian and watching this unfold is fascinating, but unclear at times.

  • Where did this song come from that is in an ad on the television?

It is not a commercial ad, but a patriotic one. It starts, "My country 'tis of Thee. . . ." Here in Canada we used to sing "God Save the Queen/King" up to the end of high school during the 70s to the exact same melody. When were the American lyrics written? And can you tell me why they borrowed the British music? I believe the British is the original, as it has been sung for generations, back into the 1800's.

  • Are there any real "holy" places?

The word "holy" means "pure, untainted by sin"; the word "sacred" means "not mundane, but highest of highs". With all the debate about a mosque being built near Ground Zero, I could get a lot of negatives on this. Only God is holy. The tabernacle and the two temples of the Bible were holy in the sense God's presence was there. Ground Zero is not sacred--but it is to be respected and treated properly and honourably because it is the burial site of thousands of innocent people. A mosque, or a cathedral, or a synagogue, or a little white building called a "church" are not holy: they are building erected by human hands. I believe that according to the Bible, followers of Jesus are "holy" because God's presence is in them. That is why holy can be translated "saints", and doesn't refer to an elite group of people with special merits. All who believe have the gifts and calling of God. What do you believe about holiness, and can a place be holy? (and what makes it holy?) I am not trying to cause controversy or upset, but discuss the use of the word "holy".

  • Why were certain characters in the final scene, yet others were not?

I can understand why Ben waited outside the church building and did not enter--he was not ready due to his evilness. Locke was there because, it was not him, but Flocke, who did the evil. But where were Richard, Myles, Michael and his son Walt, Mr. Echo, Rousseau and her (Ben's) daughter, and the pilot? It's easy to assume that some were not there because it was a "reunion" for the crash survivors--but then how did Penny, Charlotte and Daniel Faraday end up there, not to mention Aaron as an infant? And why was Locke's girlfriend not there, even if she truly died earlier. Loved the finale until this last scene, but so many unanswered questions.

  • Where are these missing characters on Lost?

On last night's episode "The Candidate", we saw Sun and Jin, Sayid and Frank die or are presumed dead. Claire, I assume, does not have her name on the cave's ceiling, but for some reason Flocke keeps her alive. Kate also is not a candidate and she very well could die, esp. now that she's shot.

That leaves Jack, Sawyer and Hurley. Desmond was last seen in the well--I don't think Sayid killed him as ordered. But where are Richard, Ben, Miles (did I just miss his death in an episode), and Desmond ?

  • Is it alright to put virgin olive oil in the fridge?

I accidentally did so when I was putting away groceries and it solidified. So I removed the bottle from the fridge and left it on the counter to desolidify. Is it safe to consume now? Or is it rancid?

  • Which is more preferable for your lifestyle and why--ironing your own clothes or sending them to the cleaners?

--whether you're male or female, no matter age, but single (separated, divorced, widowed, broken up)

--I don't want any "my spouse/partner does it" answers please-- I believe even if you are in a relationship, you should iron your own clothes!

--or with permanent press and drip dry settings, is ironing outdated? i.e not really needed

  • How can I fix an internal error on Windows Photo Gallery so I may access it?

When I click on the icon for Windows PhotoGallery, I receive a note that says an internal error will not allow it to open. Microsoft Help directs me to a site which I really don't know if they recommend and charges for correcting the problem. Is there any way I can fix it myself? I can access my photos other ways, but I like how WPG can show you your photos on a daily basis.

  • How can I contribute to paying a portion of my 2 daughters' Ontario student loans which will best benefit them?

I am interested in paying off a portion of my 2 daughters' educational loans which they received through the government of Ontario's assistance program known as OSAP. They both have OSAP loans; the elder for a college diploma, the younger for a university degree. One daughter is not working due to the job market, the other will graduate soon. Will my generosity actually jeopardize my daughter who is not working, as she does not have to pay until she gets a job? And what about my other daughter who is married and whose husband is going to take 2 more years for a Master's Degree financed through OSAP? Would it affect his chances of qualifying for a loan?
