I'm currently on spring break, and this is due the day I get back otherwise I would ask my teacher about it. I've already constructed a confidence interval for this, I'm just a little confused about the significance test for it.

Null Hypothesis: Mew = $74.35

Alternative Hypothesis: Mew < $74.35

Statistics:

sample mean = $76.72

sample standard deviation = $5.22

sample size = 40

I tried running a t-test on my calculator and the p-value I got from that was .003 (which i assume means the probability of the null hypothesis being correct rather than the alternative is .003). Considering the parameter is less than 1 standard deviation from the sample mean, I don't think this makes sense. Shouldn't the p-value be more like .4 or .3?

I know I'm doing something wrong (calculation or interpretation) and I'd like help to find and understand the correct p-value.
