Should i get a second budgie?
I've recently bought my first budgie home almost 2 months ago (was about 8-12weeks old when i got him and he still has faint bars on his head today) and while i had hoped to be able to spend more time with it - it hasn't really turned out that way. I've never had a bird before so i can't really tell if it's lonely or simply alone... he sings quite often and occasionally mimics the wild birds he can hear outside his window. He spends most of his time preening, sitting or eating but does like going berserk every so often and jumps/climbs around the cage like crazy.
The only problem i've had with him is that he sometimes pulls out his new flight feathers, but I feel this might have been due to the fact that his tail hadn't grown out yet (he's half English and the breeder said that the tail would take a while to develop) and was feeling unbalanced by his wings (but this is a wild guess as i've never had a bird before, i've just noticed that the feather plucking has gotten much better now that his tail is appearing)
His cage is 45x35x55, and is sitting next to a window in the hallway so someone passes his cage every so often.
Is he bored? stressed? would it help if i moved his cage during the day onto my study desk and let him stare at me while i studied? or should i get him another budgie?
thanks in advance for any advice!

5 AnswersBirds1 decade agoBest place to buy Copic Markers?
Okay. I'm thinking of buying these for my best friend and I need advice on the best place to get them. I've seen them at officeworks for $99 (the Basic 12 colour set), which is a LOT for a teenager to fork out... so I wanted to know if anyone knew of any other places to get these or any good online stores (don't forget to consider the shipping cost before answering XD) which would be slightly if not significantly cheaper.
I have until May to work for them so a price now would be great to work towards.
Also, if I can get enough evidence supporting Prismacolors as being just as good (or near-ish), I may consider just settling for the Prismas. My friend's an awesome artist, but I don't think she's even considered watercolor markers... or knew they existed... XD
3 AnswersDrawing & Illustration1 decade agoDay Trading investment tool for ASX?
I was just wondering if anybody knew an investment program that has updates every 5 or so seconds, because the ones i've found are normally daily, monthly, etc. I know such programs exist for other stock exchanges, but I haven't found one for ASX...
Additional notes: Preferably a free tool too :P although it doesn't have to be
6 AnswersInvesting1 decade agoBlack ghost knife and Glass Catfish?
I'm currently planning out my next fish tank and I want BGK and Glass Catfish. I know the catfish Shoal, so I'll get at least 6, don't worry. Can these two co-exist together in the same tank? If so, how big need the tank be to fit both of them in? And how difficult are they to keep? I've kept neon tetras, guppies, corys and zebra danios with relatively no problems...
3 AnswersFish1 decade agoHow can I train my 5 month pup to go outside?
He's trained to go inside in a designated spot (a tray thing with newspaper in it), but the smell is getting horrific. When we first got him I tried to make him do it outside, but he got too excited and was running around, so we gave up on that. It's also slightly awkward getting him out because it's a double door.
I think he's crate trained, because he has one and he sleeps in it, but we've never really closed the door, because we close the room's door instead.
Note: he's an inside dog and his water bowl is always there so is his food bowl, but that's only filled during certain times of the day.

2 AnswersFriends1 decade agoMice are sick?! possibly lice?
I've had 2 mice for about a year now and I've been pretty regular about changing their bedding once a week, but starting this year, I've been a little slack (once every 1 1/2 weeks) due to stress from problems piling up. Recently, they haven't been really active and on of them moves around weirdly. They seem to have lice (i think) as they have red bugs on them that move, and blackish/white speckles. They aren't bleeding and they don't have bald spots although on closer inspection, I think their hair is slightly thinning, but it's definately mangy looking. I don't know how they could've gotten them because they don't come into contact with anything (besides me) out side their tank and every-time i change their bedding i use a mite and lice spray.
What happened?
BTW don't call me irresponsible. I didn't expect my life to turn out like this. Blame the World Finnancial Crisis.

1 AnswerRodents1 decade agoFirst Night for New Puppy?
I'm bringing a new puppy home on the 18th of December (a Japanese Spitz puppy) and I was wondering; if you intend to let the puppy (and dog when it gets older) sleep in the laundry, should you leave the crate downstairs in the laundry from the very first night or should you take it up to your bedroom for the first couple of nights and then move it down to the laundry room?
note: I intend to crate the puppy. (Should I start on the frst night?)
Also can a puppy become accustomed to eliminating in a spot outside the house and inside the house?
10 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHelp! Albino Cory violently twitching to the side?
A little under two weeks ago, I bought three albino corys and they were doing fine for the day I was with them. The next day I had to go camping for school and left my mum to feed the fish. I think she may have over-fed them a bit, but since then I've done regular (daily) water changes and they were fine for the week. Today as I came home from school I noticed one was twitching violently to the side and seemed to have trouble swimming. Another was was lying on its side like it was dead; it gave me quite a fright, but after prodding it, it shot up. After that, the last Cory (the biggest one) also started twitching!!
Any ideas? Help!! I really like my fish!!
PS My tank has one plant in it and three other healthy zebra danios in it. my heater is set to 25 degrees Celsius and I swirled the rubbish under the gravel yesterday, but it wasn't a problem last time. When I got the corys all my levels were fine, but I haven't checked them in a week. I'm going this Sunday to the fish shop to check.

1 AnswerSculpture1 decade agoAm I ready for a dog?
I've always wanted a dog and my parents have always said no, but this year they've said yes, so suddenly, I'm not so sure. I'm 14 (a student) and I have quite a lot of spare time to take care of a dog, but I still need one-two hours a day to study. I've done about a years worth of research into the dog breed I want (Japanese Spitz) as well as borrowing library books about dog care/training/health. I'm willing to take full responsibility for the dog (although my parents are a bit skeptical about that), but I do have a history of keeping my word. I'm pretty good with dogs (none of the ones i've interacted with have ever tried to bite me) and my neighbour's cat that visits regularly. The only pets I've ever owned are mice (two females) and fish (freshwater) and I'm the one that cleans the tanks and changes their rubbish. I only go on holiday once a year (for a month) and my grandfather (who's enthusiastic about my canine ownership) is willing to take care of the dog. I'm not planning to move out of the house for at least the next 10 years and I have a younger, teenager sister and a stable financial situation.
So... am I ready for a dog?
12 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWhy does this cat visit?
There's this cat that keeps visiting my house and it belongs to someone (Dunno who) and I've feed it only once or twice, but I pett it alot and now, when I'm outside it follows me and when I'm inside it just sits outsides for hours. I don't have a problem with it, I just want to know why...
