In need of some help....does this girl really like me? Are we just friends or maybe something more?
There's this girl that I like, we've known each other and have been friends for almost five years now. Although our friendship has lasted for quite some time, I have only truly liked her [or seen her as more than a friend] for the last six months. Each day we would stop and say hi to each other after class, and she'd always compliment me on my eyes. [She still seems infatuated with them to this day, which I don't mind at all, of course.] She has always been very nice and kind to me; she has always been willing to listen whenever I have important issues going on in my life, just as I've been as good of a listener for her. We used to text each other each and every day [usually several times a day] last fall/winter, but our school and work schedules have really picked up this semester [we're both in college and go to different schools in the same town] and we simply don't have as much free time on our hands as we used to, but we do still manage to stay in semi-constant contact with each other [mostly by Facebook and texting].
She had been in a relationship from the time I first met her [five years ago] until the end of last summer, and that, of course, is when we began to talk a lot more. I didn't find out about the break-up until October [I didn't ask her about it since I didn't feel she would enjoy talking about him very much at all]. Her -ex was the one to let me know on the same night after she and I met in person at a church get-together, where we talked for like an hour and a half. She had mentioned to me about how she was looking forward to finding the right guy to marry one day and talked to me about the benefits of the married life, but I didn't see this as a sign because I had never really thought she'd ever find interest in me as a significant other.
The one thing that stands out more than anything else, as far as why I think she might like me, is what goes on when we're spending time with each other. There was this one night we went to the carnival together [during Rodeo time], and from her mannerisms I noticed that she might be interested. She always had some sort of smile on her face, her shyness seemed to mirror the level of shyness that I have, she laughed as we ran through all the houses of mirrors and other wacky carnival attractions. [She usually does seem to act a little shy around me, as if we were meeting each other for the first time, but then again I pretty much act the same way and I think she is aware that I like her.]
The highlight of that night though, was what really got me:
She knew I was sort of freaked out by roller-coaster rides, from the terrifying experiences I had in the past with those, so we tried this spinning ride called the Starship 2000. Once the ride got started, I made a totally subconscious move and reached out to hold her hand, and the crazy thing was, she didn't release her hand from mine, or pull away, until right when the ride was over. We were laughing and yelling throughout the whole ride, and it felt like a magical moment. She also messed with her hair a lot, and said it was because of the rides she got on.
I feel like we've made a real connection with each other over these last few months. If it helps any, I did surprise her with a heart-shaped diamond pendant for Valentine's Day, and of course, she told me that she loved it. Actually, she still tells me from time to time how pretty she thinks it is. I really need to know, though, what's really going on here? Is she interested in me, or am I just looking for something that's just not there?

5 AnswersTVs1 decade agoHelp...is this Financial Aid Appeal letter good enough to get approved?
After revising my letter over the last few days, I feel confident that it is good enough to get approved. If it bears any meaning, this is my first appeal.
Here is the letter:
Dear SAP Committee and Office of Financial Aid,
I failed to meet SAP for the 2008-09 academic year due to emotional distress caused as a result of the damages done to my family's home by Hurricane Ike. A large oak tree from our backyard fell on our house during the storm; the tree damaged the backside of our roof entirely, destroyed our backyard, and caused additional damage to our insulation, which prevents us from having any air conditioning to this day.
We didn't have any lights for three weeks after the storm, and constantly struggled with rain leaking into our kitchen and den for an additional six to eight weeks. During this time, I had to take care of my father while he suffered from two different strains of flu-like symptoms within a one-month span; I also started to fall ill, developing heat rashes along my neck and chest. However, we could not afford to go to the hospital. I also had to assist him in making sure he was covered for these damages under his insurance policy with Farmers, help him find contractors and gather nearly a dozen different estimates for repairing our home. I did get registered and paid for my classes right before the storm occurred, but these issues caused me to be unable to attend.
Considering all of the circumstances and factors surrounding the situation that has occurred, I understand the consequences and I take full responsibility for failing to attend the courses I registered for last year. Starting today and from this point on, I am making a promise to undertake a serious commitment to proving that I am a much more responsible and diligent student than I was a year ago. I will also take steps to prevent such an occurrence from interfering with my studies ever again.
Due to the economic hardships my family has faced, past and present, the only way I can attend is with financial aid. I would like you to view this letter as a request for a second chance to attend the University of Houston-Downtown. Please carefully consider reinstating my financial aid, so that I may progress from those times of adversity, towards an honest college education. Thank you for your time and consideration.
5 AnswersFinancial Aid1 decade agoIs my financial aid appeal letter good enough for reinstatement?
I'd like to know if I went into too much detail or if I explained myself just fine because I can't afford a denial of my appeal. Here's the letter
To the SAP committee and the Academic Advising Department:
This letter is to explain the terms of why I could not meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress during the 2008-09 school year, which lead to the cancellation/suspension of the financial aid for which I am appealing. I failed to meet the SAP because I suffered through emotional distress due to the damage done to my family’s home that was caused by Hurricane Ike. Two trees fell through our house during the storm; the damage sustained from the trees falling in damaged our roof entirely and caused major water damage throughout our kitchen and den. To this day, we are still suffering from damage to our insulation and ceiling, which prevents us from having any air conditioning. During the first six to eight weeks after the storm, we didn’t have any lights or a working telephone line, nor any type of protection to cover our roof. It was at this point that I was registered in school, but was unable to attend because I had to stay at home and take care of my father, who was very sick during this time. During this time I was starting to fall ill as well; I started developing heat rashes along my neck and chest. I had to assist him in contacting his insurance agency and making sure he was covered to repair the damages. I also had to help him find contractors and gather multiple estimates to get the house fixed.
I understand and take full responsibility of failing the attempted courses last year, and from this point on I am making a solemn commitment to doing whatever it takes to make up for the classes I have failed and to catch up so that I may continue towards my Bachelor’s Degree in English, and subsequently, a Master’s Degree within the same major once I am eligible to declare. I am willing to take classes year-round, including each summer. Due to the economic climate my family has faced and continues to face to this day, I am dependent on financial aid to continue my education, and without it, I could not attend school. So I am asking you today, to please deem me worthy of a second chance. Please carefully consider reinstating my financial aid, so that I may progress on from those times of hardship towards an honest college education. Thank you for your time.
4 AnswersFinancial Aid1 decade agoQuestion about student loan deferment....?
I received an unsubsidized and a subsidized Stafford loan for both the Fall and Spring semesters last year. However, due to lingering effects of Hurricane Ike and other personal issues, I was unable to attend school. I am trying to go back to school this year, but the school (University of Houston-Downtown) sent me a letter saying that I had to pay back the money for each loan. They have not yet been defaulted, but now I am wondering if it is possible for me to get my loans deferred so that I may receive financial aid and get back in school. If not, are there any other options?
1 AnswerFinancial Aid1 decade agoIf I currently take college in person, can I switch over to online courses during that same semester?
I am attending University of Houston-Downtown. I am registered for 12 semester hours, and I noticed they offered online courses, but that was after I started school back in August.
5 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoThere's a great chance I will get financial aid. I'm attending UHD. How much aid can I potentially be given?
When I filled out my FAFSA my EFC (Expected Family Contribution) came out to be 0, which would mean my father can't cover any expenses. Like I said I'm going to university of houston--downtown so my tuition is about $4,000. I'd like to know how much money I might be given all together, both with and without housing (if possible).
1 AnswerFinancial Aid1 decade agoHow does financial aid work? Do you get actual cash to pay for your books, tuition etc. or is it different?
I'm registering for school for the fall semester (late registration actually) but I was wondering what would happen after I was granted financial aid.
