  • How can I move a live site from host to home server?

I pay a lot for hosting. I would like to move my site on a mini PC. I have a general idea of exporting databases and such, but I'm still confused. I'm especially concerned about domain names - how can I tell my home site to override the files from the online hosted site? Do I have to communicate with my hosting provider on this? Do web companies own domain names or are they up for grabs even from home servers?

  • Is Jewish satire illegal in Europe?

Hello. This is a legal question. Is it illegal to depict jewish people in satirical tones in Europe: eg: caricatures, parodies, etc. Is making fun of a religion a form of intolerance?

I know laws in Europe are diverse according to each country. I would like a general idea on this

  • Is it legal to sell antique weapons you own?

Let's assume you find an antique weapon by accident - such as a revolver from the 1920s or something in the mud. if you attempt to sell the antique weapon to someone else, are you committing a crime (in the US)?

Again this is purely hypothetical. Someone I knew found a WW2 revolver and tried to sell it... and was arrested for thirty days. And is due to get his actual, definitive sentence in the court of law. I found this extremely abusive.

  • Why is precession not considered in Astrology?

Precession refers to the "gradual shift in the orientation of Earth's axis of rotation". Let's assume you're born in April 10th of this year - your sign is supposed to be Aries (Mar 22 - Apr 20), when in fact the sun will be located right in the middle of Pisces on this date. The astrological signs were in synch with the constellations at some point in time, but not anymore, due to the Earth's axial shifting.

I'm rather thick, but from what I gathered, astrologers don't see this as a problem, because - and this is my personal assessment from their answers - the constellations aren't the same as the signs, and the two need not correlate. It was odd of me to assume that astrology, which measures how the movement of the heavenly bodies influences our day-to-day lives, actually has to measure the movement of the heavenly bodies.

So it doesn't seem to matter if the Sun is no longer in tune with the sign charts that astrologers use to calculate your 'sign', because... well, why should it? This is the part where astrologers lose me. I also assumed those signs were drawn up to roughly represent the actual constellations which the planets (and sun, and moon) traverse through the ecliptic. I mean they matched at some point in time, right? Anyway, so if you're born in April 10th, which places the sun straight in the middle of Pisces, you're still an Aries, because that's what their charts say, although they don't reflect reality... but it doesn't have to.

    Huh?

  • How do astrologers explain away precession of the equinoxes?

Every sign that we're told we have, according to modern astrology, is incorrect. So if you've been born in March, you're told that you are Aries, when in fact you can't be, because the Sun is nowhere near Aries in March (it's in Pisces). That's because the orbit of the earth has changed since the old astrological signs were established several thousand years ago.

    Questions

How do astrologers come to terms with precession? How do they explain away that every reading they've done for every sign is incorrect, as people are continually labeled with the wrong sign? Even more so, how come astrology seems to 'work' in spite of this, according to the many ordinary people who believe in it, when in fact they don't even know their own real sign.

I'm open to any explanation. I really want to know how professional astrologers who are aware of this issue can explain it

  • Is it ethical to create political parties based on ethnicity?

Here's an odd current among some countries - having political parties that exclusively encompass ethnic groups. In America, imagine having an Indian-American Party, or an African American Party. It says nothing about what sort of political views you must hold - whether you're a conservative or right / left wing loon. Only that you're part of an ethnic group. In practice, this works because it secures the votes of a respective ethnic minority.

Is this normal? How do you view this? Why is it wrong?

Is the 'money-lending / peddling jew' myth grounded in reality or is it just that (a myth)? What was the workforce distribution for jews in the 19th and 20th century in countries like Russia, Germany, France, etc?

  • Breathing issues with cat?

Someone I know has a cat. In short, here are the symptoms I got from watching the cat:

The cat is about three year old. He's always had a hard time breathing. He can't do any extended effort, like running, because he quickly runs out of breath (he can and will run from one end of the room to the other, but then needs a cool-down time)

He usually breaths in quick patterns, even when he's relaxed (by this I mean he inhales / exhales quicker than normal). He tends to sometimes cough or gulp whenever he purrs. Caughs are clean (no mucus or anything of the sort). This condition has been with him all his life.

He was found as a stray in mid December and was extremely weak. He eats normally and isn't overweight.

Lastly, the cat seems fairly catatonic and not that bright. Apparently he can sit for hours in one place and just stare, and his reactions seem delayed by a few seconds. My guess is that the cold / sub nutrition might have something to with these issues.

    Any help?

  • How can I learn about politics?

Don't live in the us or the uk. My country has just about every media outlet (newspapers, web, tv) politicized by this or that political party. It's hard to find reliable information on anything. I don't want to be manipulated and base my views on spoonfed propaganda. Where should I turn to if I want to learn about how politics works and make up my own mind on things?

  • How do I prepare my 3D model for other people?

Ok. I looked around everywhere. I have a max model that I need to present. It has tiled jpg maps - diffuse, spec, bump.

Can someone please - please! - tell me how I must save the file so someone else with 3ds Max can open it and view it with the maps and everything intact.

The model is not uv-mapped or anything. Just tiled textures.

Thank you for helping an amateur out

  • What 90s PC games do you still play?

So anyone here still playing 90s pc games? I do it and it's not a nostalgia thing either, as I've tried games that I never played before (x-com, warcraft 2, hexen 2) and found them very well designed and fun despite their age. so what 90s games do you still play and why? can anyone recommend anything good?

my favorite old games (that i can think of now) are: Thief TDP, Quake 2, Starcraft, Heroes 3, Might & Magic series, Diablo 1, Quest for Glory series, Freespace, X-wing and several others. Still suck at 90s flight simulators and wargames, however

  • The Devil exists... and this statement proves it?

This religious saying usually goes like this - the Devil's greatest achievement is convincing us that he doesn't exist! It follows that ... 1) he's evil and 2) he exists (duh)

This solipsistic statement is common in orthodox christianity and it always annoyed me. How would you respond to something like this?
