  • I need opinions on writing a scholarship application on overcoming adversity?

The prompt is "Write about a time when you had to overcome adversity in your life."

My mom has been battling stage III breast cancer for the past year and while she has been sick, I have been in charge of all the laundry, cooking, cleaning, shopping, and driving my two brothers where they need to be. I've also maintained my status as valedictorian of my class, been involved in varsity tennis, and worked at an amusement park near me while being worried about my mom and taking care of the house. Do you think I could apply that to the question of overcoming adversity? I know it doesn't fit it exactly so I may have to go an entirely different direction altogether. If you have any ideas on an angle I could take with this I would appreciate it.

  • How to flush my wisdom teeth holes?

I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled a week ago. The top holes look good, but the bottom ones have food debris in them that doesn't come out by swishing with saltwater or mouthwash. I went back for my dental checkup today and he said that was normal and he gave me a curved syringe to flush them out. The problem is, I don't know what to do with it. I was planning on using saltwater. Do I put the tip of the syringe straight into the hole and try to push the debris out from underneath? (That sounds really painful) Or do I gently squirt the concentrated stream over the top?

  • Question about burning candles?

In order to save the most wax does it make the most sense to:

    A) Let the candle burn when the wax is all the way out to the edges?

    B) Blow it out, let it cool, and relight it?

So basically, does the wax burn away initially or over time?

  • Is there such a thing as a model scout in Cincinnati?

I'm a 15 year old soon-to-be sophomore in high school. I'm 5'11" and skinny (about 110 pounds size 0-5 depending on the brand) with a clear face, good facial structure, and straight teeth. Are there really model scouts or do you have to work through agencies?

  • Is this correct? 10 pts for best answer!!!?

The innkeeper continues, “ ‘She was a big woman, and had long, black hair: we could see it streaming against the flames as she stood. I witnessed, and several more witnessed Mr. Rochester ascend through the skylight on to the roof: we heard him call ‘Bertha!’ We saw him approach her; and then, ma’am she yelled, and gave a spring, and the next minute she lay smashed on the pavement.’ ‘Dead?’ ‘Dead? Ay, dead as the stones on which her brains and blood were scattered.’ ‘Good God!’ ” (436)

What I'm most concerned about is the innkeeper talking about Rochester calling Bertha. Is it single quotes again?

  • Calculating weighted GPA from percentage not A+, A, A- etc.?

I've been looking at how I can calculate weighted GPA from percentages but all I'm finding is how to find it from letter grades. Last semester my grade was very specific, and other people who got the same letter grades as me and take the same classes of me got lower weighted GPA's because my percentages were higher. Last semester I was ranked first in my class with a weighted GPA of 5.80. This isn't going to happen again this quarter at the rate I'm at, so it would be great to know what my weighted GPA is now. At my school, 93-100 is an A, CP1 classes get weighted by 1.1, Honors classes get weighted by 1.2, and AP classes get weighted by 1.25.

    Here are my grades:

    CP1 Religion: 97.1

    Honors English: 94.8

    Honors Biology: 96.4

    CP1 P.E.: 94.2

Honors Spanish II: 97.7 (I'm a freshman in Spanish II. Does that count for extra??)

    Honors Geometry: 99.1

    AP Human Geography: 91.6

    Thanks for your help!
