I'm in my twenties, married, and I take care of disabled people. I absolutely LOVE life. I don't know how we were created, but whatever happened I think it's great. Even if we don't have a predesignated purpose. I like to make my own purpose. I think people get so caught up in 'It's not what I wanted' that they fail to realize the beauty of 'It's not what I expected.'

  • is my emergencry brake fried?

My mom told me that when I park on a hill I should put it in neutral and put the e-brake on, and the car should not roll backward. She drove my car and did this, and said it rolled right out of their driveway. She said this means that my emergency brake is essentially useless, and that by putting the car in park with my e brake on while parked on a hill I am resting entirely on the transmission and that its terrible for the car, and that I should never park ona hill again.

My mom makes thinks every piece of dangerous information she has heard is true, so I am just wondering, is she nuts or right this time?

  • Is there anything we can do?

Let me start this by saying we learned some mighty lessons in the last 4 days, and out of sympathy for our just plain crappy situation please, please don't tell me what I should have done different. I don't know if I can take that right now.

My husband and I bought a car for about $3000. It was as is, with no warranty, meaning all we had was 3 days to change our minds of it's our for good. So we took it to be looked up and down (by a mechanic NOT affiliated with the car lot), and the rear brakes needed replacing so we did that. Otherwise, the mechanic said, it looked good.

We had some issues with what I kept saying I thought was the transmission (it seemed to lag when shifting gears- its an automatic), so we had my father and eventually my grandfather drive it, but they both chalked it up to us being used to V6 engines and said it was just because the engine was smaller so it had less 'go' to it. Plus I kept telling myself 'We had it checked, it's fine, they would have told us something..."

It broke down on Sunday, and we just found out the transmission exploded, sending fragments into the surrounding pieces of the engine and long story short it will cost $4000 to fix. We've had the car since July 17th.

I doubt, since the car had no warranty, that there is anything we can do. I just am grasping at straws here, because we have to junk the car and try to get money for the remaining parts (if there are any good ones), and we STILL owe the bank for the $3000 we borrowed.

Anything we can do about this?

  • Painting a picket fence on the wall?

I am pregnant, and I am trying to paint my darling baby's nursery. I want to pain a picket fence on the wall to go with some bird decals I bought, but I can't seem to figure out realistic measurements for the blocking part. One site said the main plank should be 4 1/2 inches, and all the vertical planks too, and 2 1/2 inches between each vertical plank, but that seems tiny to me. Maybe its my baby brain, IDK, anyway, can anyone give me some good measurements to use to block out my fence? Baby and I will love you :)

  • How do Christians deal with the birth date of the earth?

For starters, I am NOT going to attack or disagree with anyone; this is a question bred purely out of curiosity! I don't know much about it, so please excuse me if some of my info is incorrect. Feel free to correct me :).

I know someone who is Christian, and he said a lot of Christians believe the earth is 2000 years old. Is this a true statement? And if so, how do Christians explain the evidence scientists have that points to the earth being older?

    Once again, just curious!

  • I need a recipe for chocolate coating?

I am going to cover fresh cherries in a chocolate coating for dessert, but the only one I've found is just chocolate chips and shortening. It may totally be delicious but it sounds a little... blah. Does anyone have any better somewhat simple recipes for coating cherries with?

  • what could this be...?

Last night when I was laying in bed I felt a rattling deep in my right lung. Like... the bottom of my lung, low down. It felt like loose fluid or congestion, and I thought it was just allergies.

I woke up this morning and now my lung hurts moderately bad when I breathe too deeply, move certain directions or laugh. The pain causes me to cough a little. I don't have a congested sounding cough, it sounds clear and the rattling is gone but now I have this pain. It kept me from going jogging today.

My mom says its not serious enough to see a doc, but the pain is serious enough that I disagree. What on earth could this be? Do I need to worry?

  • Slang term question...?

Let me preface this by saying I am not trying offend anyone. I want to be socially on the ball so I don't.

Is the word 'dyke' offensive? I never use it because I thought it was supposed to be a pajorative term for a lesbian. But I hear a lot of people, even gay people use it. Can someone clear this up?

  • A sermon I heard......?

the person giving the sermon said that pessimists actually disrupt God's plan for their life. He said that if a person in a bad situation thinks "Well, God's not going to come through for me this time..." that sometimes God says "Ok." and doesn't help the person out because they assumed he wasn't going to.

    Agree or disagree?

(side note: I dont have an opinion. I just wanted to hear with others thought.)

  • A question for people who do not actively practice any one religion?

First I want to say that I am not intending to offend anyone with this question, I am just asking out of curiousity.

How do you handle people who talk to you about their own religion? I mean everyone from friends or family to door to door people?

Also if you have any interesting, funny or awkward stories on this topic, please share.

  • Biscotti failure! Question?

I just made chocolate biscotti. I put it in the oven for the initial baking, and then the recipe said to take it out and let it cool a little, then slice it to 1/4 inch-thick slices and bake on each side for eith minutes.

It was the crumbliest mess ever, and I ended up with just huge chunks instead of slices. And forget 1/4 inch; I got little crumbs when I sliced any thinner than an inch.

My dad said he's had the same issue. What can we do?

  • I am trying to find a store that sells harps?

I live in Beaverton, OR, and I am interested in taking harp lessons. I've tried to use the internet and an extensive search has turned up nothing in the way of local or even close stores who sell harps for beginners, or less expensive used harps.

    Any help?
