  • Does thyroid hormone completely metabolize?

Does the body completely metabolize thyroid hormone (T3 or T4), or can "waste amounts" of these hormones be excreted through the urine? I'm trying to figure out if use of synthetic thyroid drugs (such as Levothyroxine) could possibly become an environmental contaminant (similar to how estrogens are). Sources would be helpful, but are not necessary.

    Thanks!

  • College Student License Questions?

Okay, this might get complicated, but I need someone to help me out, please.

I was born in Indiana and got my driver's license there. I recently (within the past month) moved to Texas to go to graduate school. Tonight, while walking about, I lost my license somewhere and after retracing my steps several times, I have not been able to find it.

So I went online and found out that I can send off to get a temporary Indiana license to replace my old one. It will last for thirty days. The kicker is that I can only get a true Indiana replacement license when I physically return to Indiana and present forms at the License Branch that prove that I still live there. Thing is, I don't. My address has changed and I will remain in Texas for the next five years, only returning home on holidays.

I looked on Texas's DMV website, and they say that within 90 days of moving here, I need to get a Texas license. I have not found where it gives an exception for students, although it's possible that they do allow you to keep your old state's license if you are a student. Either way, since I cannot appear to get an Indiana license again, I figured I'd get a Texas license. The problem with that is that they require that I show that my vehicle is registered in Texas. It is registered in Indiana under my name and my father's name (who still resides there) and I am by law allowed to drive it here in Texas. So it appears that I can't get a Texas license, either.

So what should I do? Are there any loopholes that would allow me to get one state's license or the other? Right now, I'm going to apply for the temporary, but after that, I'll be unlicensed. Any advice you could give me? Thank you in advance!

PS: If someone returns my license, do I still need to get a Texas license within 90 days?

  • What the heck is this thing?

My friend found this hard, slimy, black oval egg-like thing in her basement and her mother smashed it. A bunch of black stuff went everywhere and whatever was inside of it is dead now. They think it was an insect or that an insect was inside of there.

Anyone have any clues? My curiosity is killing me. We live in Indiana, if that helps.

  • Brown Spots/Bruises on Breasts?

After I wear a certain bra, the next day I notice that in the shape of the bra cup are several medium-sized blotches on my right breast. They look sort of tan/brown and look almost like bruises. They do not hurt when I push on them, they do not itch, and they aren't flaky or dry. They are not raised on the skin and don't appear to be a fungus or rash -- it appears to be discoloration of the skin or under the skin. This only occurs on my right breast; never my left, despite the fact that the bra is the made of the same material on both sides. The bra is not too tight and doesn't irritate my skin, so I know it's not that. I will change into a different bra, but the spots remain for several weeks before they finally fade.

What the heck are these things?

Just as a side note, I have fibroadenomas (benign breast tumors) in both breasts; I'm not sure if these spots are linked to those or not. I'm also on birth control medication, so I thought it might be hormonal. I'm very puzzled as to why it's only on one breast and why they take so long to go away. Has anyone else had these before?

  • How the does brain PHYSICALLY rewire itself?

I'd like to know the actual mechanism by which the brain rewires itself. Here's what I am thinking: no new neurons are made, but the ones that are already there in a certain path fire more frequently. Is this an increase in grey matter, or am I really confused here? Also, if someone could explain (or give websites on) some of the biochemical aspects of how the neuronal pathways are rewired, that would be great.

  • Am I Eligible for Unemployment if I am Dependent?

I don't want to hear that I should call the unemployment office because they are closed or they are very busy more often than not. I will get to contact them eventually, but I wanted some other input in the mean time.

I live in the state of Indiana. My place of employment is closing down to get rebuilt, and in the mean time, we are supposed to file for unemployment. However, a lot of questions have been floating around about who receives unemployment and who does not. (And for the record, my boss has no clue...)

I heard that if your parents claim you as a dependent on their tax form, then you aren't eligible for unemployment because you are not independent. Is this true? I've searched unemployment websites and haven't found anything about it. I am 20 but am technically a dependent since I live at home to commute to college. My father will call the place that does our taxes to find out if he filed me as dependent, but if I am, does this mean that I won't receive unemployment benefits while the store is being rebuilt?

Thanks for any input or helpful websites.
