Am I Eligible for Unemployment if I am Dependent?
I don't want to hear that I should call the unemployment office because they are closed or they are very busy more often than not. I will get to contact them eventually, but I wanted some other input in the mean time.
I live in the state of Indiana. My place of employment is closing down to get rebuilt, and in the mean time, we are supposed to file for unemployment. However, a lot of questions have been floating around about who receives unemployment and who does not. (And for the record, my boss has no clue...)
I heard that if your parents claim you as a dependent on their tax form, then you aren't eligible for unemployment because you are not independent. Is this true? I've searched unemployment websites and haven't found anything about it. I am 20 but am technically a dependent since I live at home to commute to college. My father will call the place that does our taxes to find out if he filed me as dependent, but if I am, does this mean that I won't receive unemployment benefits while the store is being rebuilt?
Thanks for any input or helpful websites.

I've never heard that being a dependent disqualified you from unemployment benefits.
