  • Can I walk into my local gun shop and have them order a mosin-nagant 9130?

I notice many websites selling old mosin-nagant 91/30 rifles for between $75-$150. Many of these sites will transfer the firearm to a local gun shop or will sell only to a licensed dealer. What are the chances of walking into my local gun shop and having them get me one of these old rifles in the above price range?

  • question about bicycle frame size?

I'm looking at ordering a new bicycle online. I've ridden metric road bicycles sized between 56 and 58 cm, and they fit fine and are comfortable. The bike I'm looking at is measured in inches. Sizing charts, and simple conversion indicate that I should be looking at 22 or 23 inch frames, depending on how large the largest frame made by that maker is. I am 5'11" and have a 33" inseam, and I accept that I ought to be riding such frame sizes, but my question is this. I consider myself to be of average height. (and by the stats, I am within an inch of average height in the US). Why shouldn't I be riding a medium sized frame considering I am of averqage height? what do tall people do, just not ride frames that fit? get expensive custom or uncommon sizes?

  • How do I know which bicycle components are quality components?

I am mechanically inclined, and have recently begun making upgrades to my old bicycle, which I hope eventually to culminate in a new frame and wheelset, etc. Lots of web-pages have bicycle parts for sale, but seldom give enough information about the parts to determine if they are compatible with other parts you might order. Also there seems to be extremely wide price differences among (for example) carbon forks that weigh about the same depending on either website or brand. I live in a rural area with no real bike shops, so online shopping is really my only choice. What I really want to know is how to tell what components are quality components, and which are not. Surely there is some publication, online or otherwise that does more than just review a few out of the hundreds of products available? I haven't managed to find comprehensive reviews of anything I'm looking at anywhere online, and customer reviews are totally useless to me.

  • What place do the apocryphal books have for Jews?

The apocryphal books are the books between the Christian old and new testaments that are recognized by Catholics, but not most protestants.

I'm specifically interested in the status of I and II Maccabees.

Or is it illegal for some reason (e.g. becasue it may confuse your car with a police or other emergency vehicle)

  • Baseball fan etiquette question...?

going to a Royals vs. D-backs game this afternoon, and I am a Braves fan. I'll be pulling for the Royals, as I have no competing interest in the AL. Is it weird to wear my Braves cap to the game? Every baseball cap I own has an 'A' on it. Just thought I'd get a mix of opinoions on this...

  • can I just replace my shifters?

I recently bought a 1993 Schwinn Crisscross (specs here: http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?...

The shifter for the rear dérailleur is a bit wonky. It won't shift all the way to the largest gear, sometimes it clicks into place but doesn't actually shift to the next gear, and sometimes it is real jerky when shifting. Adjustment of the dérailleur doesn't seem to help. I've never replaced a shifter before, so could I put just any shifter designed for seven rear gears on this bike? Is this a reasonably straightforward operation, or should I pay the bike shop to do it?

  • how much is my bicycle worth?

I have a 1993 Schwinn Hurricane mountain bike (26in. wheels, 17.5 in frame) in great condition with new tires on it. What is it worth? I've outgrown it since I last rode it. I now need a 19 in. frame.

  • how much is my bicycle worth?

I have a 1996 Cignal Cherokee mountain bike with grip-shifts and new tires put on it last year. It is in fine condition, but is a dozen years old. I know that Cignal is now defunct, but I have no idea what the resale value on something like this should be. I'd like to either pawn it or trade it in at a bike shop and don't want to get taken.
