  • Dog barking at bed? Crickets?

My dog is driving me up the wall! He seems perfectly healthy and fine but he keeps going to my bedroom and barking at my bed. I can't see anything for him to be barking at, but I do hear crickets. Is there a mouse or another animal hiding in my room, or is it probably just him barking at crickets? He's never done this before (I've had him for 3 years now) and he's a little hound mix. He's so spooked now that he won't even jump up on the bed (which is one of his favorite spots).

  • Wedding invitations- are these okay?

For a 35 year old man and 27 year old woman. I am known for being a little quirky and it is a very casual farm wedding. What would you think if you got an invitation that looked like this:

Dark purple cardstock with xoxo punched out of the middle of each side of the sheet using a martha stewart punch (leaving solid corners kind of like those little photo corners), with this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/36734116@N02/43679634... on top of the purple on photopaper. There will also be an RSVP postcard with a black and white pic of the park where the wedding will be. All this will come in a dark purple envelope with the address written in gold ink.

Do I need to add anything or is it already too much going on? What would you think if you recieved this invitation?

  • Wedding invite ettiquete?

We're having a casual wedding and the invite envelopes are made out to "John and Kathy Smith", "John, Kathy, and John Jr Smith (1 kid)", "John & kathy Smith & Family (more than 1 kid), and "John Smith & Guest (for people not in a relationship)". What is proper ettique for an elderly couple with a mentally handicapped son in his late teens? I am leaning towards "John, Kathy, and John Jr Smith (1 kid)" but don't want to offend anyone, Is there a 'rule' for this?

  • Funky hair with "sweet" dress?

My hair is black and similiar to this (but all one colour). I like my hair and I bought a dress I love. It's very similar to this http://cgi.ebay.ca/NWT-ANJOLIQUE-WEDDING-DRESS-BRI... (same designer) but with an off the shoulder neckline and not a halter. My mother also bought me a shoulder-length blusher veil which I also love. My question is- will other people think this looks bad/weird together- the short, funky, hair, and very traditional dress?

  • Gas fireplace remote control?

We just purchased a Jotul gas insert after our wood fireplace caused a fire (there was only one layer of brick in the 1950's firebox- we found out the hard way). Anyway, they sent it with a Napoleon remote- is this standard or are they just trying to appease the insurance company by cheaping out?

  • What has your dog ate?

My 7 month old, 50lb hound mix just ate the rest of a pack of birth control pills- 2 weeks of active pills. The vet has been called, they are just opening for the morning and a vet tech should be in any minute now and they will call me back. She seems fine- crazy and hyper as usual. . .

She has tried to eat socks, dishcloths, christmas tree ornaments, my hand :P Oh yes and she tried to lick the inside of the hot oven when I had it open (then jumped back and tried it again 10 seconds later). What has your dog ate/tried to eat?

  • New adopted dog has fleas?

I adopted my dog from a shelter about a week and a half ago. It said on her admit papers that she had fleas but they had given her advantage. The day I picked her up, they gave her a flea bath. Then I noticed she still seemed to have fleas. So I took her to my vet and they gave her some more advantage (it had been about 20 days since the first batch). Today she was spayed and they noticed fleas and gave her some more advantage (about a week after the last time!) and some to put on her in a month.

The vet told me not to worry about this being too much advantage- is this true?

The vet told me to just keep giving her the advantage and the fleas would die off- is there anything I can do to speed this along?

Our other dog is on revolution during heartworm season, but has never had a problem with fleas- so he isn't on a flea preventative in the winter. Does he need advantage too?

Thanks for any advice- I've never had a dog with fleas before and the vet seems a little blase about it.

  • How long can my 6 month old dog stay outside?

Just to explain, she lives inside, but when I let her out in the fenced-in-yard to go to the bathroom, she seems to stay out forever and doesn't bark to be let in. It's about 45F here at night right now, and she has been outside for at least 90 minutes sometimes. She is a 45lb hound mix. My 30lb hound mix (3 years old) doesn't like to be outside for more than 15 minutes or so this time of year and they have similiar short coats. Her ears seem a little cold when she comes in- but the rest of her is warm and warms up quickly. I'd rather not set up a dog-house outside because I want her to be inside with our family...

  • Second muttly hound mix from shelter?

My fiance was caring for his brother's german shepherd mix for 5+years and recently his brother decided he wanted his dog to live with him again. So my small hound mix was lonely and we decided to get another dog (we work opposite shifts so we have lots of time to spend with our dogs). I adopted my hound mix from a shelter in Illinois, and now we have adopted another hound mix from a shelter up here in Canada. She is some kind of hound (obviously) that we have named "Flopsy". She is 45lbs (and underweight at 5 1/2A months) with a very thin/narrow body. Any guesses as to what type of hounds or other dogs she is a mix of? Any guesses how big she will get? She is already a foot taller than our other hound mix.

  • Flower girl dress- how fancy?

I am wearing a traditional, fancy dress (something like this but without the sleeves, jus off the shoulder) http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://cn1.k...

My finace is wearing a suit, my bridesmaids cocktail-length dresses, ceremony is in a park at 7PM in June- very quick- 15 minutes or so, reception to follow at my parent's farm

How fancy does the flower girl's dress have to be? I was thinking of making something like this: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=30...

but in this fabric: http://www.hancocks-paducah.com/Item--i-FS-DF-33-W... with a solid top and a sash (and probably a little sweater- it is still cold here in June) . I would also make a little matching vest for the ring bearer. Instead of flowers, I want her to have a little crown of daisies and he will have a little feather boutonnaire like the wedding party...

Do I need something fancier or will this look good?

    Is this too informal?

  • Everyone's favorite word: 'tacky'- wedding bar?

my parents friends are partiers- lots of people in my area have $1-$2 a drink bars at weddings- but I don't like the idea of 'making' people pay. What my fiance and I would like to do is put out a cup for 'donations' (completely optional) toward alcohol. Is this any less tacky?

  • Wedding planning so far-?

I am getting married a year from today...

I have my dress ($50 marked down from $1000) and veil ($120)- mom and grandma paid, which was cute...

I have the ceremony site booked $110

The reception is in my parents backyard for the tent, tables, chairs, linens, $2000

    officiant booked- $300

    photographer booked $1000

Are there any other major things I should get on right away?

Not having an official wedding party- but I've spoken with friends about their roles, I have a flower shop in mind but they said they don't need more than 6 months.

It's a peacock theme and I just bought napkins (240 for $80 including shipping) I am going to use them on chocolate linens and I was trying to decide if I should have alternating peacock and gold, or peacock and the blue from the middle, or both? Any opinions or help would be great. . .

  • Wedding Invitations- wording?

We are having a very casual wedding and for invitation we are using those little photoprinter sheets. I was thinking wording like "We invite you to join us in

    celebrating the marriage of

    Scott Matthew Last to

    Darlene Lyn Last

    On June 5, 2010

    At Bridgeview Park,

    Town, 7:00 PM.

    Reception to follow at

    Parent's Address

Hors d'Oeuvres and a Late Luncheon to be Served"

My parents are paying for about half the wedding ($3500)- his mom (retired widow) is buying us a very nice dining room table as a wedding gift but not contributing directly to the wedding. Should it be changed to mention any of our parents? We're very independent (I'm 26 and he's 34) but wouldn't want to offend anyone...

  • Wedding planning? Is this happening to everyone?

A week ago, I called the photographer and tried to book May 29 2010- he tells me he has every weekend in May and June booked except June 5- so we changed the wedding day to June 5 (we were booking the photographer first). Then I called the town to try to book the park we want to get married in (tiny town of 4500) and they still have the date open but have multiple dates booked and have to mail me a contract before they will let me reserve it. Then I tried to book the tent and they have already had someone book that date (they have multiple tents). I thought planning a year in advance would be lots of time- is this happening everywhere or just in my small area?

  • What gift for future mother-in-law?

My FMIL lives with my fiance and I (his house) and has helped us out majorly as I went back to school full-time and worked full-time this year. We really couldn't have made it through this without her.

I am looking to spend $200-$300ish on something really nice for her but she is really hard to shop for.

She is a very frugal lady in her mid 60's, very religious. She won't travel far. She wouldn't go to a spa for manicure, pedicure facial etc. I was seeing if Godspell or Jesus Christ SuperStar were playing in the Toronto area (about 4 hours away) and they are not. I don't know what else she would enjoy theatre-wise. She loves to read and our dogs. I am wondering about maybe some kind of relgious jewelery? Any ideas would be appreciated...

Since we all live together anything food-related wouldn't be the best because my fiance and I would probably end up eating it too. Also I would prefer something she can look at and feel loved down the road when she moves out (probably in the next 6 months but definately before we get married) as opposed to a donation in her name or something similar. I also don't have the time to make anything right now as I am finishing school and still working FT.

I know this isn't 100% wedding related but you guys seem to give better answers then in the other sections.

  • Unlocked GSM phone CDMA network allowing dual GSM/CDMA phones?

Confused, confused. I live in Canada and I just bought an unlocked, gsm quadband phone (Samsung f110 from UK not availible in North America). I'm with Bell Mobility. They are a CDMA carrier but have some phone that do CDMA and GSM for roaming purposes. Their webpage tells me nothing and customer support is closed for the evening. Before I bought the phone I called and asked and was told I could purchase a phone elsewhere, call them with the IMEI, and I'd be good to go. Now I think I may have to cancel, pay the ETF and go with Rogers because they are GSM? Am I correct? Thanks for any help...

  • Would your father be hurt if he didn't get to give you away?

I was going to break it a little more gently but my mom brought it up. I was planning to have my fiance walk his mom down the isle (his dad passed away 20 years ago), sit her in the first row, then go stand at the front, then have my parents walk down together, sit in the first row, then I would come in with the flower girl holding up my train. He kinda shrugged it off at the time- but my mom made a huge deal of it- it's every father's dream etc... Has anyone else dealt with this?

I just never pictured it. I don't like the traditional idea behind it and my dad and I are close but haven't had the 'daddy's little girl' relationship in nearly 20 years (I'll be 27 at the wedding)

  • Is this dress a-line?

My understanding is that anything with some poof is either a ballgown or A-line but when I asked the woman at the store which it was she said it was 'box pleats'? Can that describe the shape of the skirt or is it still A-line? The store owner was a little rude (possibly because the dress was only $50 and she felt we weren't worthy of her store :P) I don't think it's poofy enough to be ballroom- though with some fluffing it poofed out more. There are 3 pics of it at the bottom of the page. BTW- I hate the sleeves and am having them removed with just a half circle, off the sholder band.
