  • intellectual property on antique manuscripts?

I want to produce a short film based on a discourse in a book that was written in the 17th century. Obviously neither the author nor the original publisher can collect royalties. The book however has been reprinted several times and as late as 2005.

My question is who if anyone owns the rights to the content of the book? Do I need the permission of the current publisher to produce the film?

  • Choose an essay topic?

I have to write an essay for a unit in theology. I originally had 11 choices but I have narrowed it down to three. Out of the following which would you rather write and/or read?

    1) The social and political role of prophets in the Ancient Near East including but not exclusive to Israel and Judah.

    2) The concept that the "Wisdom literature" could be considered a third stream of revelation along side the Torah and the Prophets.

    3) The effect of the exile on the political structure of Israel and Judah, and it's significance in the establishment of Judaism as a religion.

  • Paul's trip to Athens?

Acts 17:16-34 tells of Paul's ministry in Athens. It suggests that Paul spent some time learning of the Greek culture, although it is not specific as to how long and how objectively he did this. The Greeks were a people who liked to learn and accumulated knowledge and wisdom from all over the world.

What would you consider was more instrumental to Paul's success in Athens, Paul's willingness to learn the culture and understand the people, or the Greek nature to want to learn of what Paul was teaching?

  • What makes atheism more Logical?

    Let's be logical about it.

Practicing scientists and religious scholars aside, most people, both atheist and theist, base their beliefs on what they have read in books and/or been taught by others. If they do not study the sciences or the theologies for themselves, are they not as naive as each other?

If God cannot exist because a 1500 year old religious textbook has some flaws, then by the same principle, science also is false because 1500 year old interpretations of sciences are flawed.

If creation did not occur because religious writers contradict each other, then by the same principle the earth has no temperature because one group of scientists say the temperature is rising because of carbon emissions and one group says it is a natural cycle.

Isn't it logical that non of us have the answers and both atheists and theists have alot to learn?

  • How to tell your rockmelons are ripe?

I'm growing rockmelons for the first time and the vines are bearing quite productively. But I do not know when to pick them. Do I wait for the vine to die, like pumpkin. The skins have turned light brown and look like a ripe rockmelon, but does that mean they are ripe on the inside?

  • Killing pests in cabbages?

My cabbages keep getting wiped out when they start to form a heart, by colonies of little black grubs. Up until now they have only been affecting the cabbage, but now they are starting to attack other leaf crops.

Does anyone know an effective way to control these that doesn't involve buying commercial pesticides?

  • Why can't anyone spell anymore?

I don't know if this annoys anyone else but I get sick of internet and text jargon like "ur". For Gods sake the word is "your". "Ur" sounds like something you say when you tread in dog poo.

Typing "ppl" instead of "people" and "plz" instead of "please". Don't schools teach spelling anymore? Trained monkeys can do better than that. Are we the dominant species or not?

I can understand using some abbreviations when texting to save space, but in an E-mail or an 'answers' post there is no excuse. Being lazy is not even a valid excuse when the same people using these abbreviations will add extra "ooo"'s to the word "so".
