  • Is the political divide in America too great to sustain a functional democracy?

Speaking purely in regards to political opinions, I think liberals and conservatives are too different for presidential representation to ever be fair even in democratic elections.

You look at the two leading candidates on the Republican and Democrat sides - Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are as different as night and day. Republicans fervently agree with Trump and Democrats equally so with Bernie. You listen to the issues each side wants and they are the polar opposites of one another. It has gotten to the point where I literally cannot understand why the other side thinks the way it does. I don't comprehend how someone can support Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. I don't get how their rhetoric doesn't register as crazy in their supporter's minds and I strongly suspect they think the same about the left. Certain people criticize Obama for inviting Ahmed Mohammed to the White house and not only do I find it absurd to criticize Obama for what I perceive to be a beautiful gesture in attempting to correct the traumatic experience of being arrested for being smarter than all of his peers.

Before a civil war breaks out, I honestly believe that we should consider splitting into two different countries where political opinions are more aligned. I mean, when it comes right down to it, I am simply not comfortable knowing people like Kim Davis, Ann Coulter, Pat Robertson and many others vote in the same elections I do for representation in government.

  • Do professors do any actual work in the laboratory or do they push it all to the graduate students?

And if the grad students do all the benchwork, won't they know more about the subject than the professors? If so, why do professors get all the credit for published work?

  • How come we don't value friendships the same way we value family?

In my view, and from my personal experience, friendships are more meaningful relatonships than family members. There's a reason why you chose your friend and he/she chose you to share your lives with. I believe friendships are more meaningful and fulfilling. You don't get a say in who your family is, on the other hand. Oftentimes I feel like my affection fir them is forced rather than organic. By virtue of growing up in the same house, must I be bound by my brothers and sisters forever? Even if our personalities clashed? Must I sacrifice everything to take care of my ailing parents instead of using my money and my time to do the things I want with the people I want?

And why don't you ever hear this being talked about in the general public?

  • Do you think motorcyclists should wear armor?

This isn't a joke. I want your opinion on whether on not you would support local (or broader) legislation that requires motorcyclists to wear a suit of armor in addition to helmets or face a penalty.

I'm from a small jurisdiction in New York btw.

  • Is America too big to be a proper democracy?

Would all the conflicts between Americans be resolved of America broke into smaller countries comprised only with like minded states? What if the federal government's power could be greatly scaled back in exchange for "cluster-of-states" 's rights where a group of states with similar culture, politics, ideology, and way of life would be grouped together into one giant state with one government each? Would everyone be happier? Would life be easier?

  • Why can't I masturbate unless I have a crush on someone?

I only have really strong orgasms masturbating to someone I like. If I am going through a period where I don't particularly like anybody, it's harder for me to masturbate and my orgasms are never nearly as strong. Am I the only one?

  • Do right-wing groups in each region of the world have more in common with each other than they realize?

Right wing is always about conservatism, nationalism, preservation of the past, and resistance to change. Does this not accurately describe Christians in the Bible Belt as well as ISIS in the Middle East and Buddhists in Myanmar, the only difference being the worldview that they hold to be true?

And if so, does this mean that right-wing ideology is destructive to peace?

  • Could this be what dark matter is?

I'm sorry if this might be a stupid question, but I understand that dark matter gives extra mass to galaxies which then keeps the stars from flying apart. Could it be possible that all it is is the extra mass that normal matter gains as it approaches a high velocity due to the gravitational pull just before the event horizon of the black hole?

  • Do you think black people are awesome for putting up with America?

Look at how well blacks have been reinventing themselves in the 21st century despite all the shiet they've had to and continue to put up with with. Successful black people are found in a lot of different fields (Obama, Loretta Lynch, Neil degrasee Tyson, Ben Carson, Don Thompson, Condelezza Rice)

Secondary question: Do you think all the bull that black people had to push through to be successful makes them even better than people who've had privileged upbringings?

How does America justify the continued stereotype of young black males being petty thieves at your average shop?

  • Why do white people fear being labelled racist so much?

Is it because they actually like black people, or are they more concerned with how they would be perceived by other white people?

  • In writing, is there a word or term for this strategy?

In writing, what is the term for the literary device where the writer alludes to the subject matter in the text by deliberately using words that are synonymous to the subject and makes sense in the text?

Ex. Marijuana is legalized in DC, but Congress is being blunt about their disapproval leaving supporters in a haze of confusion.

I always get a laugh reading things like these and I wanted to know if there was an actual literary term for it.

  • Do parents really think having children was the best thing they've ever done or are they BS-ing?

All parents say the same thing about having kids, that it is the greatest life experience and the best thing they did and all of these overtly positive adjectives. My question is whether parents say that because it is absolutely unequivocally true or because society (or any other factor) makes it so that they think deep down that if they question to themselves their happiness about children, even a fraction, that that would mean that they are bad parents for their innocent kids. Is there a mental block preventing a parent from honestly saying that they don't enjoy parenting and that having a child lowered their quality of life? Or is it true that your life is 10 times better with kids and you mean it when you say it?

  • Why do I assume other people are atheist?

As an atheist, I find myself assuming every new person meet is also an atheist even though I know full well the statistics. Funny thing is, I end up being right! Or at least they don't believe in God in the traditional sense. Does this have to do with living in a large diverse city? Or are most young millennials just not traditional believers?

  • In the 20th century (let's include Bush and Obama) which US president had the HARDEST presidency?

From McKinley to Obama, which presidency do you think was most challenging? Include the context of their presidency in history's most turbulent times.

This is simply a thought experiment. Please no biased petty jokes. I just want to know what you think.
