• Can cow hocks be fixed?

My mare had cow hocks (Back legs-toes turn out, <-- Here is a picture of her. I just rescued her and she is also underweight.)

I heard of a release formula (Like this http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display...

Is there anything I can do/use do fix her legs? Her front toes are slightly turned in too. I heard cow hocks are actually great for jumping but no one in my area does jumping and I bought her as a barrel prospect. Any advice/input would be great. Thanks!

  • Rain rot in the winter and can I put the horse with other horses?

I have a mare has rain rot...I know not to use the same brushes, blankets, tack ,etc. on her that I use on the other horses..but can I put her with other horses or keep them separated? Also, is there a way to get rid of it in the winter? A couple people I know left it alone..I was going to use the Listerine method (half water half Listerine in a spray bottle) but the average temperature is at most 10 degrees usually below zero..What should I do? Thanks!

  • Bringing a new horse into the herd...?

Hey I want your opinions on this...I bought a new horse and I separated her from my other horses (1 mare and two geldings) for a whole week. For the first half of that week they could see each other but I had two fences so they couldn't touch. Then the second half I took down the extra fence so they could touch noses etc but were still separated. I put my old gelding in the pasture with my new horse. (He's the BOSS no one can touch him Lol) And he took it pretty well, he just didn't let my new horse go near him but he didn't attack or anything...Same with my mare. But I let my young gelding (4 years old) out and he continuously attacked and chase her...pretty much nonstop...He got her cornered in the shed and attacked etc. I separated them all again. I'm planning on putting them in one by one, but who should I put with the new horse first in the separate pasture and how long until I add another horse? My old boss gelding, mare, or the young (attacking) gelding? The new horse is a 3 year old mare. Thanks for your help!!

  • How much should I charge for boarding?

THeres a girl who wants to buy my horse, and I said she could just board her horse at my farm. We have an outdoor arena, barn, (she'd have her own stall) Tack room, 10 acre pasture, we provide water, a shed, 60 acres of riding area (trails etc.). And should I include deworming and farrier fees? And hay for the winter? How much should I charge per month? Thanks!

  • How many hours do you wake up before a horse show?

My horse show starts at 7am, so what time should I wake up? I was thinking 2 hours before the show but is that enough to get ready? I'm only showing my little miniature horse in two classes so I don't have any tack or special braiding or anything I have to do. I'll have all my clothes and stuff ready the night before. Any tips?

    Thanks!

  • Urgent: Which horse should I take to the shows!?

    Hello,

I need to decide quick because the coggins clinic is coming up and I only can get one horse's coggins done.

Which horse should I show this year? (Just local open shows)

    Horse #1:

16 years old, only does barrel racing at a lope and I'm not sure if I should push her to go faster since shes a little older.

    #2:

My barrel racing prospect that I'm going to start on barrels this summer and hes going to be my 'career' horse. I'd only be able to do it at a walk or trot but I thought some experience might be good?

    So what are your thoughts?

    I need to decide quick--thanks!

  • When can I participate in barrel races?

    Hello,

I have a 3 year old gelding who will be four this may. I bought him as a green broke barrel prospect last September, and I've been working with him almost every day. I plan to start working on barrels this summer. I'm going to take it slow and I'm not going to push him. I won't have him at full speed this year obviously, but next year do you think he'd be ready to participate by the end on summer 2014? Like August? He would be 5 by then. How long did it take you to train your horse for barrel racing and when did you have your horse at full speed? Thanks!

  • Should I show both horses?

    Hello,

I'm going to be showing my miniature horse in open shows in my area for sure, but I also have another mare who I did gaming with last year. (She's going to be 16 and she only does things at a lope [canter])

The thing is, I don't have anyone there to help me with anything, and so I think it might be a hassle with trying to take care and show both horses. (I'd be showing my mini in the morning and doing games with my mare in the afternoon. I'd like to show my other horse, but again, theres no one to watch her while I'm showing the mini and vice versa, and it seems like it'd be a hassle. What would you do?

  • My horse has been limping for three days?

    Hello,

I noticed my mare, Peanut, was limping on Monday (Today is Wednesday) and so I thought maybe she just sprained her ankle and it would just fade off like last time with my other horse, but after three days now I'm getting worried. The vet's coming on Friday to float one of my horse's teeth, so I'm going to have him check Peanut out. I was thinking maybe it was abscess? But I can't tell if she would or not. I'll post a picture. My Dad (who is a Chiropractor) checked her legs out and he said it feels a little swollen above her hoof and maybe in her knee. What can I do to help her before the vet can come? The vet can't come any time sooner than Friday.

    Thank you.

    I will post a picture.

  • Really tight English riding boots?

A Theraputic center gave me English riding boots for free. The boots just came in the mail today, but they're REALLY tight. It was really hard to slip them in (I had to wear nylon socks) and I couldn't get them off by myself so my sisters had to help XD. They're a tint to tall also, otherwise, the ffoot size fits. I appreciate them giving the boots to me, but I feel bad if I had to send them back and ask for new ones, or sold them and bought new ones. Is there any way I can stretch them or make it easier to pull them on and off?

    Thanks!
