  • Farnam Breeders Trust Saleor AQHA World Super Sale?

I am considering getting a new APHA or AQHA gelding in a few years and there aren't any breeders in my area that have high quality paints for sale its more quarter horses and even still they are out of my price range. I was at an equine expo over the weekend and I was talking to someone who bought there stud at the AQHA super sale and she says there were a lot of high quality show horses there for sale also and they had to disclose all of the information about the horse and you were able to try them out prior to the sale. I thought this would be a great idea to got because instead of traveling all over the country just to try out one horse I could go and try out a bunch in one place.

I would prefer an APHA gelding with some color, with some color because then I would be able to show APHA and PtHA while if I had an AQHA i could only show that circuit. Plus I am a bit partial to paints :)

Is the Farnam Breeders Trust sale similar to the AQHA Super Sale? I know they have a bunch of yearlings for sale but Do they also have older horses (like 4-6 years old) Would I be better off going with a QH?

  • How much would this car be worth?

So I am helping my grandfather sell his car and I'm trying to find out prices for it but I'm having little luck:

It is a 66 Landau Thunderbird

It has a 428 Cobra Engine

Original 54,000 miles on it (only one owner)

    Lincoln Continental rear end

    positive traction

it is that is been sitting for quite a while

So my question is what is this car worth, I know the engine is worth some money I was thinking of using that as like a base price b/c the rest of it is is in rough shape.

  • If an owner gets rid of a neglected horse can they still be charged with animal cruelty?

So I had a friend from HS that ended up with a horse that my mom sold years ago; they started out with a few horses and now they have over twenty. In the neighborhood we are known for having horses, they have gotten out on a few occasions so naturally someone called us when they saw two horses wandering on the main road, we asked them to describe the color (I have a chestnut and a palomino) the said they were two dark brown horses one with a black mane and tail, I told them they weren't ours but I think I know who they belonged to.My mom and I went to where they were and it was horrifying a body conditioning score was a 1; they were severely emaciated you could see every rib and vertebrae, there winter coat was still very long (it was early may), hip bones were sticking out, and the muscle on the croup and neck were concave. They had put on a grazing muzzle on my old horse because he was a cribber, and I know that there was no grass in the pasture it was dirt and possibly a scant amount of hay. The owners soon showed along with a state trooper up on the scene ran up and grabbed the horse my mom asked the what the **** happened to this horse and then the owner went to attack her...needless to say that was broken up and my mom, and a the people who had saw the horse in the first place lodged a formal complaint. The dumb-*** owners soon got rid of both horses and nothing else was done; I thought that the police were supposed to follow through with animal cruelty cases. I know they still have twenty or so horses and they are breeding them; they had moved these two horses to the fathers house because they had more than they could handle and I believe he is the reason they were so neglected because the horses they have now are in decent shape, and yet they are still getting more and breeding there shitty stock. Why can't they stop ignorant people from owning animals?

  • Guy asks you over when nobody is home...and nothing happens?

So I have been friends with this guy for a few years now we talk on Facebook and text constantly, pretty much on a daily basis, and we also flirt with each other on and off. Recently he asked me to go over to his house, his mom was out of town, it was like 10 at night, my immediate thought was that he wanted a booty call. So i decide to go over we go in the house and he immediately sits down in the chair, not on the couch so I sit in the other one, and we just ended up talking all night and watching TV no cuddling, no making out nothing...did he want to and then just lose his nerve or does he think of me just as a really good friend idk what to think here

  • What do you think of this horse?

Just another one I am considering buying

Bandit is out of Two Time APHA World Champion Hug Me Zippo and by Four Time AQHA World Champion One Hot Krymson. Bandit is the last colored baby by the late Hug Me Zippo, raised by Cindy and Don Gattis. We have owned Bandit since he was 5 months old. He is well trained in western pleasure. He has been ridden in open trails, around cattle and several local horse shows. He is always willing to do what ever you ask of him. He has been ridden english as well. He will make a great all around horse. He loads, clips bathes, cross ties and easy to trim or show. His feet are perfect. We are down sizing due to the economy and he must go to a good home.

  • What do you think of Pleasure horses?

I have shown western and english pleasure since I have started riding and so far the non-horse people have equated it to watching paint dry lol; truth be told I see why its not entertaining to watch horses go around in circles exhibiting the same gates over and over again and lately the trend seems that western pleasure horses move slower than death which is definitely not how its supposed to be and also gets WP a bad rap and HUS classes aren't that much better horses are plodding along on a loose reign not collected or having a more forward motion it seems to have turned into another english pleasure class *facepalm*

I have to say its definitely not as spectacular and exciting as eventing or racing, cutting etc. you can really see how athletic these horses are. I also think once you know what your looking at and spending all that time and energy to get your horse as close to the ideal as you can it kind of grows on you. So other equestrians out there what do you think?

  • Buying/Owning a horse while in college?

So I am currently a freshman/sophomore in college; I live 20 minutes away from the university and I commute every day. I also help take care of the two horses that I share with my mom; I can't really say they're my horses because I don't pay for much of anything but I want that to change. I have had a lot of problems with "my" mare and riding just hasn't been fun I am always left more frustrated and stressed than before I got in the saddle...so I took a break from riding over the summer and during the fall semester but I really miss it; I want a horse that I can enjoy and I am prepared to get it myself.

Now before you say anything about it being way to difficult to care for a horse while in college bear this in mind: I am fortunate enough to be graduating a year early with a Masters in Biology Education, I am maintaining a 3.25 GPA, I take a 17 credit course load (the max is 18), and I hold down a part time job and I budget my money pretty well. I am also going to the barn on a daily basis and doing the night chores.

The horse I want is pretty broke so I could get by with working him maybe 3 times a week (and of coarse taking care of him every day) I do not bored at a stable we keep our horses on my grandparents property for free and I would just need to cover the cost of grain, hay, vet/farrier visits, wormer, etc. for the one horse.

  • HELP!!! I think my hermit crab is dead?

I got this crab from Petsmart a few weeks ago he was lively but a little shy. He moved around quite a bit during the night. Today I noticed him at near the water dish, I was in the process of changing the sand in my tank so I was clearing everything out When I had picked him up I was horrified when I saw his big claw had completely fallen off meat and all, and he was a little bit out of his shell, I could move his legs easily, he just seemed so lifeless. My crab also has a faint fishy smell to him. Is he sick, dead or molting? What should I do?

  • To Sell or not to sell...?

So I have a cute little palomino mare she's about 15 hh and petite, that I have had since she was a yearling; I have put a lot of time into her and she has gone for professional training so i could show her in western and english pleasure however, it just hasn't worked out...you see my mare gets bored really easily and to her going around in circles in the ring is boring, when riding her I try to mix it up by doing figure eights, serpentines stuff like that just to keep her mind on me but when it comes to competitions she gets agitated and rears when she doesn't want to do something...I think she would be better suited to some other discipline like jumping or western reigning which is not what I want to do. I stopped riding all together because I got so frustrated and discouraged; I want to sell her but I feel guilty going though with it...she is 12 years old now and this is the only home she has ever really known, I also have only one other horse and I would hate to leave him alone. I firmly believe that when you buy a horse it is a life long commitment; even when it gets rough

I have also had a bad experience with selling my first horse; he was sold to a good home and later on his new owner went through a divorce and had to sell her horses; my old horse ended up in a home where he was neglected and when we found him he was severely emaciated; we reported the people to the police but the people got rid of him before anything could be done. I would hate for my more to suffer the same fate what should I do

  • PA school or Teaching?

Right now I am currently thinking of switching my major Biology Education and by the end of this program that is a combined B.A/M.S degree but I am also considering continuing my education and going to PA school. I am drawn to teaching others; it's something I love to do but after this past year I know that there is not much job security when times get tough the money isn't that great but considering they have summers/weekends off its not bad. However being a physicians assistant seems to be an up an coming career; they make nice money and there will always be a need but I am not sure if the medical field is right for me.

  • How do you go about buying a horse out of state?

So I am in the market for a new horse and unfortunately their aren't horses in the local area that strike my fancy. This has lead me to several online websites and I have found some that seem to have what I'm looking for but I have absolutely no clue where to go next because I have never bought a horse that was outside of my local area. How do I find a way to go and look at the horse a few times, get the horse vet checked and most importantly ship the horse to my barn or do I go down with my own truck and trailer?

  • How can I stop my mare from rearing up?

I have a sweet little palomino mare that is too smart for her own good :) In the past when she was in training and when I rode her at a different stable over the winter i didn't have a problem with her at all until I took her to a local horse show a few months later and she began rearing up at the out gait to get out of ring basically i made my self look like an *** and i was frustrated. At the time I was a novice/intermediate rider that was a bit timid and I had no clue how to handle this situation because the other horses I rode were dead broke...needless to say my mom got on she kept rearing with her a family friend got on and my horse flipped over backwards. I gave up on her recently I have become more experienced and I have more confidence so I want to take another shot at working with her; the past few times I have ridden her she has been fine but then sometimes shell get testy and try to rear i have smacked her in between the ears a few times and that curbs the problem for a little while and i try to keep her busy by switching up our routine because she gets bored easily and I think thats part of the problem. Basically my mare rears when she doesn't want to do something; how do I stop this behavior?

  • Why do some people ask a ridicules price for their horse.?

So I'm looking for a new horse and come across these gorgeous looking geldings that have all of the qualities I'm looking for: some show experience and fairly broke or at least started, tall, good confirmation and nice movers (from what I can see from adds and videos that is) and a quieter disposition...and then I look at their price tag....$20,000, $18,500 i mean c'mon in my opinion that is absolutely outrageous from what the add says they are young, have minimal show exposure they just so happen to have won a few times and earned some points and they have halfway decent breeding, i don't exactly get why someone asks that kind of money for a young horse like that? The horses my mom purchased a while ago are also nice movers and have halfway decent breeding and have won some ribbons too and if I were to sell them id ask maybe $6,000 tops because thats whats reasonable sure we put in a lot of time effort and yes money but you are selling this horse for a reason...and the thought behind selling a horse is giving him a good home and getting rid of him to the best buyer because you may want a new one or perhaps you need to cut down on the number of horses you have. i mean we only paid $1200 a piece for them and that was when the economy was good but in these rough economic times nobody has that kind of money to drop on a horse alone. To me asking anything that is 5 figures is just plain absurd.

  • Is $25,000 a reasonable price for this horse?

I am really interested in this horse, he's a 2008 APHA gelding, 16.1 hh he just started showing in 2011 and he's won a few times and he's a really great mover and some decent breeding. Basically he is an all around prospect. Honestly i believe that 25k is a bit much i mean this horse has potential but its not as if he's cleaning up at every event and he just started showing. I am really interested but i guess i the most i would pay would be $6,000. What do you think?

4 hours ago - 4 days left to answer.

    Additional Details

he is breeders trust enrolled and eligible for gelding plus program and an APHA point earner

I really want to try talking his price down
