Is $25,000 a reasonable price for this horse?

I am really interested in this horse, he's a 2008 APHA gelding, 16.1 hh he just started showing in 2011 and he's won a few times and he's a really great mover and some decent breeding. Basically he is an all around prospect. Honestly i believe that 25k is a bit much i mean this horse has potential but its not as if he's cleaning up at every event and he just started showing. I am really interested but i guess i the most i would pay would be $6,000. What do you think?

Additional Details

he is breeders trust enrolled and eligible for gelding plus program and an APHA point earner

I really want to try talking his price down

Update 2:

@ RuggedLark05 The horse I'm looking at is A Gorgeous Investment he's going on 5. Its great that you know the stable and I guess you would pay more for the name and I don't want to insult them by any means but In this economy not many people have 25K to drop on a just the horse alone; I think maybe $8,000 is maximum especially if the horse is just starting out.

Update 3:

Basically I want to show him in Western Pleasure and HUS . not really interested working cattle and gymkhana

ETA- Thanks for the links. Unfortunately my computer is being dumb and wont let me view the video. But I realized that my friend actually shows the sire, Gorgeousorkie. Her video is on youtube. Small world!!

Honestly though, I do think 25k is too steep for this two year old. I Googled and watched her 90 day training video. She has a LOT of talent as a WP horse and is coming along very nicely. I personally don't enjoy western pleasure, but I know a lot of people that would pay top dollar for that. I would say 10-15k would be more reasonable. She's also coming from a very well known barn, so you're also paying for their name. To compare, my one friend has a 2yo for sale that is not half as nice as this filly. She is asking $8,500.

If you offer $6,000, you will probably just insult them. Maybe you could offer more and just make a payment plan? Most breeders don't expect people to pay 25k all at once. Good Luck!

No way. This horse just does not have the confirmation I would have to see in a prospect to be an "all around" western horse. He is only 5 and could grow some more and he just doesn't have the traits I would want. This horse will never excel in "all around" western sports. He may be OK for some western pleasure but he will never be great in handling cattle or other western disciplines. He will not be able to keep up with those 14.2h QH's that also have good breeding and are put together better for the sports than he is. Gorgeous is not all you are looking for. You did not mention what you would be interested in doing with him. He has had minimal training at this point so there is not a lot of work in him. To offer $6,000 would be an insult. No offense, but this horse seems financially beyond you at this point and he is not an outstanding horse and he is unproven. Why not pass and just keep looking.

I hate to be sincere with you, however I are living in TN and via a sale barn untrained ordinary dimension foals are very nearly being given away, they're promoting for as low as $20. And if you happen to care approximately horses, please don't take her to a sale barn, a number of the horses going via the income are being despatched over the boarders and being killed for meat for zoo animals. I am critical, no comic story. I might hate to look her move to the killers marketplace. On a usual foundation round right here, promoting her out of your residence, a well fee variety might be from $two hundred-$500 relying on how she is developed, if she is fats, and if she is registered. If she is all of the ones a bigger fee is bigger, and if she is none of the ones, a curb fee might go well with her. And do not forget asking just a little an excessive amount of is in most cases a well factor, when you consider that such a lot individuals within the horse industry will check out o speak you down in fee, so consequently you'll now not be getting lower than what you desire when you drop your fee.

I would think anyone would just be insane to pay even 6 tho. for a horse like that! What kind of a rider are you anyway that you could not buy a nice, well bred gelding for a fraction of the 6 and train it to that point your self.

I would think any good trainer could easily get a horse trained to that point in 4 Mo. All that has been done with the horse is to dumb it down and use gadgets on his head to get him to move with his head down and drag around. Has his tail been deadened or it that phony tail just that heavy? Could the horse canter a tight tiny circle, could he take the lead you ask for from a stand still without one trot step, can he change leads, will he back straight on a slack rein. I

I certainly would not even drive 100 mi to see a horse that did not have a better V. than that.

Granted that is a gorgeous horse but not worth $25,000.In my area horses rght now with a show record are going between $15,000-$20,000.

I don't think you will get the price you want-but wait around as his price will drop and start making more money to possibly meet what that bottom price will be.

    Good luck.

You need to look at other horses also and keep your options open. Everyone would like to make top dollar for the horse they're selling.

Seems pretty steep to me, but without a picture to see him it's hard to say one way or the other. A video of him moving at a walk, trot (jog) and canter (lope) both directions would be best.

That's not a lot of information.

Do you have his ad? Maybe you could post it along with a couple of pics. That should help.

Three grand is top dollar for something like that here in Indiana under the present economy.

I would definitely do some dickering.

    Not even close to reasonable.
