  • Help concerning finding one of my UK ancestors?

    Hello everyone,

I am using all the free resources I can find for the UK and it helped me a bit but I came to a stop point at the moment.

BENNETT Mary Ann, she married JAMES Francis John in 1860 at St. Philip And St. Jacob, Bristol, Gloucester, Eng.

On familysearch, it says that Mary Ann was born in Bristol in 1841 and that her father is Charles Bennett. I don't have much information about her right now. I've looked in censuses and various BMD sources but I can't find more about her or her father Charles ( now I wonder if it really was his complete name ).

I have more info about her husband though. Francis John ( sometimes Francis or Francis J ) was born in St(Mary, Pembroke, Pembrokeshire in 1838 ( at least his christening was on the 28th of May 1828 ) and he is the son of James and Susan James.

As to my sources, I use familysearch as well as the Free websites ( BMD, Cen and Reg ). Does anyone have more sources I could use ? I know I could go to ancestry or findmypast for example but yet I am not ready nor really can to afford a subscription.

As a foreigner I am not very good yet at UK research, it's very different from what I am use too for the moment :D

So thanks for reading me so far ;)

    Good day all !

  • Le moulin de Chaumont d'Anjou ( Maine et Loire )?

    Bonjour,

    Cordialement,

    Alister

  • Help with the organization of my family tree?

    Hello,

I've come to the point where two different branches of my family tree should be linked to be the same.

I think it does not make a lot of sense but I'll explain in more details below and would like to know what you would do or have done as a more expert genealogist using softwares.

Here is the picture of the tree where I have encountered my problem. It is the My Heritage software.

    http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/4194/tk1u.jpg

So, Nicolas Chevillon married Catherine Peuriot. But Nicolas' grandfather Pierre had a sister Pierrette ( you can't see him with the picture ) who married a man named Francçois Miallet who happened to be Catherine Peuriot's maternal grand parents. So as you can see ( I hope I am clear enough in my explanation ) these two lines should also cross each other two generations before the union of Nicolas Chevillon and Catherine Peuriot, since they have the same great grandparents.

Unfortunately, this is one of the thing that the software can't take in consideration and I really do not how to organize myself now.

Should I make the line twice ? Or should I just put a note on Catherine Peuriot ( born Miallet ) that indicates to refer to the right place ?

Has anyone encountered the same issue ? With this software or an other ? I am a bit confused on what to do.

Thank you for your time and for reading me that far. Good day to you all ;)

  • Can anyone help with my British Great Grand Father?

    Hello,

First of all sorry for the poor title.

I've doing genealogy for a couple of years know but I have never been able to work on my paternal side in the United Kingdom. So I was wondering if anyone in the UK could help me to find the birth of my Great Grand Father.

It may sound silly but I always been lost with UK archives as to what is charged with a fee, what is free,...Etc because it very different from France where you can ( depending on the region ) work for free almost as far as the records allow you. I already paid two birth records and a military record in the UK for different persons but it was not what I was looking for ( it my fault I know ). I would like someone to either show me what I need if it is free or show me what I need to buy and where. Thank you in advance for reading until here.

My Great - Grand Father Leslie Herbert Aldridge was born around 1914 in Hackney, London ( that is what I know up to now ). Now I believe ( again, not sure at all ) that his father, an Aldridge, was also from the region of London but he married near Bristol. Quickly after the birth of Leslie, the family was back to Bristol where his brother and sister were born after.

Despite having many pictures of Leslie's parents and that dad met them, I have no idea of their names ( except the nickname of Jack ).

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you very much in advance for reading my question.

    Greetings from France.
