Joining Army or Marine Corps OCS after enlisting in National Guard (help from a current or recent recruiter would be greatly appreciated)?
I am prior service Marine Corps and considering my options. I'm considering active duty but, for reasons that don't make sense to get into right now, I am also considering the National Guard. My question is this: I read somewhere that the National Guard has to release anyone from their contract who is selected for another service's OCS, is this true? I've searched just about every forum I've come across for a source on this, but seeing as how this isn't something that would be highly published I'm having a hard time finding anything concrete.
As a follow up, an Army recruiter told me that it's possible to commission as reservist and then after OCS but before BOLC, switch over to active duty. Is this actually possible? I'm skeptical of this because I'm not sure she understood what I was asking her.
1 AnswerMilitary5 years agopros and cons of Iowa vs. Florida?
My wife, a BCBA, and I, a public defender hopeful, live in California in the LA area. The cost of living here is far too expensive and we are considering moving to either Iowa (her home state) or Florida (a place where she briefly lived). We're unsure of where to move to and I was hoping some of you fine people could give us a more objective view into the matter.
A little additional information: 1. I've never been to Florida. 2. Her parents travel frequently to both states but reside mainly in Iowa (we have a daughter and one of the reasons for moving is to give us a better support system). 3. I'm a law student and I graduate in early 2016. 4. My wife can easily get a job in either place. 5. If we move to Iowa it would be near Cedar Rapids, if Florida it would be Manatee County.
Thanks
3 AnswersOther - United States7 years agoWhat is this base's name?
I went to Iraq in 2006 and spent a few days in a base in Kuwait on the way there and a week at the same base on the way back. For the life of me, I can't remember what the name of this base was. Does anyone happen to know which base it was that units staged before they went into Iraq?
2 AnswersMilitary7 years agoBreech baby and bed rest?
My wife is 36 weeks pregnant right now with our first and she is breech at the moment. We are doing spinning babies and a "Bradley Method friendly" chiropractor is treating her. We are scheduled for a version but we want to avoid it due to the risks involved. My wive's coworkers have been telling her that partial bed rest will help our baby flip but I'm skeptical (as I am with the chiropractor as well). Has anyone come across any research supporting this? Or even anecdotal evidence? I've searched but I haven't found any.
Thanks in advance.
2 AnswersPregnancy7 years agoWhat is the name of the documentary about the man that starts his own religion?
I've been trying to remember the name of this documentary. It was made by a young man who was Indian but was interested in what made people religious and follow certain beliefs so he made his own. After making his own religion he started trying to see how ridiculous he could be and still have people follow him.
Does anybody remember the name to this movie.
1 AnswerMovies7 years agoAre there any ABA approved law schools that have an online component?
Long story short, I'm trying to find out if there are any ABA approved law schools that allow for a student to take their first year online. If you know of one can you please provide a link?
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)7 years agoWhat do I do if my tenant haven't received the 3 day notice to quit?
I posted the 3 day notice to quit on my tenants' door on Monday, which means that they technically received it today. However my tenants do not return to their place every day and I know that they have not yet received it. My question is, what does this mean for my rights as a landlord and what further steps am I required to take to ensure that I have done my due diligence to ensure their rights? Have they still technically received the notice even though they have not seen it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
6 AnswersRenting & Real Estate7 years agoWhere are the Pepperdine campuses?
The research I've done has suggested that Pepperdine only provides law academics at their main campus in Malibu. I'm trying to figure out if this is true or if they provide a law school a little bit closer to where I live right now (basically closer to Long Beach).
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)8 years agoWhat are some social benefits of immigration to the United States?
excluding educational benefits and diversified culture. I'm looking for academic research but I need to get a little more specific, I was hoping someone could help out.
Also, please note that I'm not saying "illegal immigration". It doesn't what kind or even if it's from Antarctica.
Thanks.
6 AnswersImmigration8 years agoCoast Guard... soft science, duty station?
Long story short I got out of the Marines in 2009 and I have been attending college. I'm looking to go back in to the military, but since I'm married now I'm thinking the Coast Guard. I briefly talked to my recruiter and he said that they are not letting people with degrees in soft sciences into their OCS. I know they can be more picky, but is this really true?
I'm also wondering about duty station assignment. In the Marines you get a "wish list" which basically means nothing, can you be a bit more choosy in the Coast Guard? Do you actually get to be stationed somewhere you want to be?
Last question is this, I know that in the Marines we have something called the Platoon Leaders Course (I think), where someone attending college goes into OCS over the summer and then finishes school and then completes their active duty. Does the Coast Guard have anything like that?
Before you tell me to ask a recruiter about these things, I have called the office numerous times and I get through only sparingly. I'd rather just have the answers and be done with it.
Thanks for your help.

I am wondering about criminal defense lawyers. Do they ask their client if he or she is guilty? Is it even relevant? Is it ethical?
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoAffordable healthcare act?
I haven't read the healthcare bill, but I am curious: what if someone cannot afford to buy the "affordable" healthcare? Then they are penalized, right? Making them indebted to the government and still not having adequate care. I'm not knocking the bill, just asking a question.

I'm a little worried about the punctuation here: "...application of, leadership, in the field..." This is for my résumé.
3 AnswersWords & Wordplay9 years agoCheap RC cars with decent range?
My friends and I are going shooting and we are planning on tying a balloon to an RC car and attempting to shoot the balloon. I'm not looking for anything fancy or really even reliable, just something that wont break the bank and has a range of around 100 yards. Any suggestions?
3 AnswersHobbies & Crafts9 years agoI'm trying to remember some Pashto?
When I was in Afghanistan my interpreter told me the Russians would walk up to random Afghanis and say to them in Pashto "friend or enemy," meaning are you a friend or are you an enemy. I can't remember how to say it but hopefully one of you can refresh my memory. If I heard or saw something like it I could definitely remember. Thanks for your help.

3 AnswersMovies10 years agoHow can I improve my run times (sprinting)?
I've been running for a while now and I'm much more of a distance runner than a sprinter. At my peak I was running 3 miles in less than 18 minutes but even then I could not out-sprint even some of the slower sprinters. Any advice in improving my sprinting times?
3 AnswersRunning10 years agoCat is biting me! Help?
I have a kitten and she is between 5 and 6 weeks (rescued from being abandoned outside a shelter). She is VERY playful which is fine but she has been biting my wife and I INCESSANTLY. She is teething, but I don't think thats why she is biting us because she has better teething toys and my wife and I are pretty good at diversion, but she will go back to biting us without hesitating. We have also tried blowing on her when she bites and hissing and locking her in a room and until she calms down. We are going to try a spray bottle next but it seems like cats with out kitten's demeanor will end up actually liking it. Also, she is not fixed yet and I know that will help but I need some sort of relief now. Thanks!

3 AnswersCats10 years agoIs it ok to spray my kitten with a spray bottle?
My wife and I got a little kitten a few days ago (3 or 4 weeks old). We don't have too many rules for her but there is one important one she keeps breaking: chewing/playing with power cords. I read somewhere that spraying cats with water is not a good deterrent and that instead I should make a really loud noise when she does it. My kitten doesn't stop when I do this though, would using a spray bottle work or is there another thing that might work better that I should do?
