2 AnswersYouTube5 years agoMerger and Acquisition (M&A) in the pharmaceutical industry antitrust laws?
In the last few years, there were many M&A between major pharmaceutical companies.
Tech companies like Apple, Microsoft and Google do not seem to be merging with each other any time soon, but why so many in big pharma? How is this allowed with respect to antitrust laws? Isn't there any regulation protecting the general public against M&A between big pharmaceutical companies, and the inevitable drug price hike, monopoly, layoffs, etc.?

2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs6 years agoMom couldn't see grandma in her last moments?
She was dying in a hospital from a far-away country and my Mom still had to work to support us. She did see her to take care of her for a short time, about a month before she passed away, but she couldn't take care of her for long.
My Grandma was in great pain and wanted to see her daughter right next to her in the last moment. Now that she passed away, my Mom regrets not being there at the time, freaking out and bawling, not being her old self. I'm stressed and scared, and it's an emotional moment for everyone in my family. Overall, I simply feel sad for both Grandma and Mom.
Is there anything I could say or do to make her feel better?
1 AnswerFamily7 years agoWorking recipe for pulled noodle?
I tried the all purpose flour to make doughs for Chinese hand pulled noodles (la mian), but it's not easy.
I tried mixing 2-3 cups of all-purpose flour, a pinch of salt, a pinch of baking powder or some alkaline solution and water, and kneaded the dough for 10-20 minutes, but it's no good. Very hard to pull on it, it snaps back like a rubber, and if I stretch it too much I start to see small breaks in the dough, and it eventually completely breaks into two. I think it's supposed to be stretchy like clay but I don't know how to do it.
What's the secret to making it work? Using a cake flour that has less gluten to prevent it from breaking? Or, using bread flour with high gluten? Does it have to be Chinese flour? I have no idea.
Cooking & Recipes8 years agoHammer as a self defense in University of California?
I live in a neighborhood that has a lot of crimes and I commute to a UC campus by foot. Recently, I got attacked by a group of big, street gang-looking people while walking down the street. Fortunately, I got out of it with minor injuries, but it changed the way I look at walking on the street now.
So, the question in hand is, is it possible for me to legally carry a ball peen hammer that can crack a thug's skull while on campus and while walking outside. I know there's some kind of billy club law in California, but do hammers count as one? If the police wants to arrest me for carrying a hammer, can't I just claim it's for my job? (I work with lots of machines and gadgets).
I won't use it unless it's a life-threatening situation, and I'll use it as a last resort. Of course, if the gangs had guns, then the hammer would be useless, but I just have to have a peace of mind.
I don't walk with anyone else and I don't have a car, so I need some advise as to how to protect my life myself without getting sued.
Many thanks.

1 AnswerHomework Help9 years agoStatistics Homework: difference between population proportions?
I have this problem for my stat class:
Assuming the necessary conditions are met, a two-tailed test is being conducted to test the difference between two population proportions. The two sample proportions are 1 = 0.281 and 2 = 0.184, and the standard error of the sampling distribution of 1 - 2 is 0.0417. The calculated value of the test statistic will be equal to _____?
Your help is appreciated! Thank You.
2 AnswersMathematics9 years agoHow to output Chinese in Microsoft Visual C++?
Hi, I am trying to compile a short program that displays chinese characters, but I keep on getting errors like "character represented by universal-character-name '\u6697' cannot be represented in the current code page (1252)". I think the problem is that the Visual C++ does not recognize Unicodes. I inserted the chinese characters in the main function. What can I do to make it work? Thanks.
1 AnswerProgramming & Design9 years agoStatistics Homework: Sample to Population?
Hi, How do I approach this question?
The number of accidents per week at a hazardous intersection varies with mean 2.4 and standard deviation 1.2. This distribution takes only whole-number values, so it is certainly not Normal. Let x bar be the mean number of accidents per week at the intersection during a year (52 weeks). What is the approximate probability that there are fewer than 100 accidents at the intersection in a year? (Hint: Restate this event in terms of x bar average.)
I know that average of the sample (x bar) is still 2.4 and the standard deviation is 1.2/(52^0.5)=0.1664, but what can I do after that?
Thanks for your help!
1 AnswerMathematics9 years agoStatistics Homework: point estimate?
Hi, I'm having trouble with these questions that uses sample statistic to predict the population numbers.
A statistics professor has stated that 90% of his students pass the class. To check this claim, a random sample of 150 students who have taken the class indicated that 129 passed the class. If the professor's claim is correct, what is the probability that 129 or fewer will pass the class this semester?
a. 0.4484
b. 0.0516
c. 0.9484
d. 0.5516
e. 0.0668
Please help? Thanks :)

2 AnswersBasketball9 years agoStatistics Homework: Spread or scatter of observations?
I put a. the measure of the shape on this question because I thought if I knew the shape was symmetrical, uniform, or bimodal, I would know how much the data is scattered. But it was wrong.
Is the answer c. variability? What is variability, is it another term for standard deviations and stuff?
Please explain why the answer might be something else too. Thank You!
Numbers that indicate the spread or scatter of observations in a data set are:
a. measures of shape
b. measures of center
c. measures of variability
d. measures of location
e. all of these

Can you find out the enthalpy of formation of a compound by simply adding up all the bonds that form them?
For example, to find the enthalpy of formation of ethanol, CH3CH2OH, can you combine the enthalpy values for five C-H bonds, one C-C bond, one C-O bond, and one O-H bond to get around -277kJ/mol (actual deltaHf of ethanol liquid)?

2 AnswersHomework Help9 years agoWebassign number recognition rules?
I used webassign for the first time and I am not too familiar with their numbering system.
Here's the check-in-multiple-boxes question:
There are several ways you might think you could enter numbers in WebAssign, that would not be interpreted as numbers.
You cannot have commas in numbers.
You cannot have a space in a number.
You cannot substitute the letter O for zero or the letter l for 1.
You cannot include the units or a dollar sign in the number.
You can have the sign of the number, + or -.
Which of the entries below will be interpreted as numbers?
1.56 e-9
1.23 inches
5,000 with a comma (wrong)
3.25E4
1.56e-9
40O0 with O as in octopus (wrong)
-4.99
$2.59 has a dollar sign (wrong)
1.9435
I checked 1.56e-9, -4.99 and 1.9435 but they said it was wrong.
Has anyone done this question before and what might be the correct answer? Thanks
