  • Does a cable aerial work when using a freeview box?

I've recently moved to a new flat (rented) and the landlord told me he has installed cable. We don't use cable and aren't interested in having cable and have always been content with freeview. There is only one aerial socket which makes me believe we are plugging our tv aerial into the cable socket. Can this cause us to have poor reception?

We've never had a problem with freeview before and have very good quality cables connecting everything (gold plated etc). We often have to resort to watching normal terrestrial tv now due to the poor quality. Even these channels aren't fantastic - but much more watchable than freeview.

I've also checked the area for freeview signal and its supposed to be a strong signal area and we should be able to receive all freeview channels.

If it is the cable aerial that is causing the problem, does anyone know if the landlord is obliged to install a "normal" tv aerial for us or if it is just bad luck for us and we will just have to live with it or pay for it ourselves.

    Thanks for all your help/advice.

  • Two questions about sharing itunes and computers?

    Q1:

My boyfriend and I both have ipods but have somewhat different tastes in music. We've never been able to work out a sensible way of having our two separate itunes libraries on the same computer - but I'm sure there must be a way. Can anyone confirm that this is possible and explain to me how?

Q2: I have also recently changed jobs - my itunes library was on my computer at work and now I want to use my home computer. Every time I link my ipod up and try to sync it, it tells me that it is already linked to another itunes library. I'm not bothered about saving the music that I have copied from CD on my ipod but I do want to keep the tunes I've bought. I've even already cleared my ipod of everything except for bought items. Can anyone tell me how I can solve this issue (I thought it would be as easy as logging into my itunes account but that doesn't seem to make a difference).

Thanks in advance for any help - this is REALLY bugging me!!!!

Can anyone help me out - either point me in the right direction to find the information or alternatively tell me anything about this motherboard and whether it is worth using or is it that old its no good anyway?!?!

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

  • Project Management advice for job interview?

The interview is for a Project Support Officer. For my interview I have to read a project proposal and identify the main activities that should be included in a draft project plan (don't have to actually write the project plan) and then I have to identify tasks and activities, say who will complete the activity, timescales involved and outputs.

The project aim is to embed and promote a scheme for tutors, teachers and trainers employed in further education which will accredit them for the experience they have (i.e. for people who haven't got teaching qualifications but who want to have recognition for what they do).

I've got a list of objectives too (won't bore you with all that though!!) and have identified various tasks associated with each objective - I'm not really sure how much detail to go into though. E.g. servicing committee meetings - do I go as far as allocating timescales for arranging venues, taking / typing up minutes, preparing paperwork, correspondence etc???

  • Working with polymers and asthma?

This is a bit of a specialist question and could possibly be answered by anyone who knows about the polymer / plastics industry, any medical professional or anyone experienced in employment law.

My boyfriend recently got offered a fantastic job with a great company who have just withdrawn the offer of employment due to the fact he will be working with polymers and he has asthma. The thing which I am concerned about is that they didn't even offer him a medical examination - they just changed their minds about the job offer because the medical questionnaire (tick-box) said "do you, or have you ever suffered from...." and he suffered with asthma as a child but pretty much NEVER uses an inhaler anymore.

He has worked in the polymer industry for the last 2 years and studied at university as a polymer engineer for 4 years and never been told he shouldn't be doing this work with asthma.

  • Does anyone know of any park and ride's in Hull?

Am taking my mum christmas shopping to hull tomorrow and we would normally just park in the multi-storey but last time it cost us a fortune because we ended up staying all day.

I know there is a park and ride near to the football stadium but that is on the other side of hull to where we are coming from, plus there is a football match on on Saturday so I know it will be very busy with football fans.

Does anyone know of any other park and rides or anywhere that we can park and catch a bus from near by?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • What are you having for tea tonight?

I'm going to make something up with a load of leftovers. I've got one piece of chicken, 2 rashers of bacon and a small amount of mince. I think I'll put some tomatoes, basil and pasta with it. What do you reckon - disgusting or a tasty dish from a mish mash of ingrediants?

  • What's your most annoying habbit?

Or you're partners / flat mates most annoying habbit?

My most annoying habbit (that I know of) is leaving my shoes under the table so every time my boyfriend goes to sit down he has to pull out about 50 pairs of shoes first (ok, slight exageration!!)

His most annoying habbit (for me) is not rinsing the sink out after he's washed up and therefore leaving all the manky, greasy stuff for me to clean out later. Eurgghhh!!!!

  • Board games?

I am looking for a particular board game that I used to play with my uni mates and I can't remember what it is called so I thought I would ask here.

It is a board game which incorporates a few other classic games like pictionary, charades and a pictionary type game but where you mould the answer with playdoh. Does anyone know what this game is?

Also, if anyone knows of any other good board games to invest in, please let me know - my boyfriend and I are trying to save some money and need ideas to keep us busy - we're not the type to sit and watch much TV and will soon get bored of doing this - but we do like playing games like trivial pursuit, dingbats, backgammon etc.

Any good websites that stock board games would be good as well - whenever you search woolworths / argos or somewhere you just end up with board games which have been converted to DVD / playstation etc.

    Thanks :o)

  • CIPD financial assistance?

I am looking into starting a professional qualification with CIPD. However, the fees are approximately £3000 for the duration of the qualification and I would be required to become a member of CIPD (another £117 a year), not to mention approximately £50 per exam.

I am really really keen to do this qualification because I have spent the last few years wondering what path EXACTLY I want to take with my career. Now I am in a position to make that decision because I know I am extremely passionate about learning and development (this is the area I would be studying) but I just can't afford these fees. They will help me by offering my the chance to pay in installments but this still leaves an initial payment of just over £1500 (plus the registration fees).

Is there anyone who knows of another way I can get assistance with the fees - my only other option is to get a personal loan. My employer won't pay as they know I am relocating with my boyfriend soon.

  • Microsoft windows and sharing contacts?

Does anyone know of any programme that allows you to share a contact list (primarily email and phone numbers) besides MS outlook. I am looking for something that is relatively simple and easy to use as most of my colleagues would not use it others. They have little time to learn something new but it seems a waste for us all to have our own lists when we can share everyone elses. I don't like using outlook because it is not that easy to manipulate the data unless you are emailing from outlook and also isn't particularly user-friendly.

It doesn't have to be a free programme / download either as my department can use their budget to pay for things like this (within reason obviously!!)

Thanks in advance for your suggestions :o)

  • Exercising - how to keep the motivation up?

I have been going to the gym since February this year, although had a couple of months in May / June where, due to lots of stressfull stuff going on at home, I stopped going. Since July I have been going very regularly and do enjoy going and know that its doing me good.

BUT...I am not losing any weight. I am the exact same weight I was before I stopped going to the gym in May. I work hard at the gym and do both weights and cardiovascular stuff, I am eating a lot healthier than I was and have drastically cut down my alcohol consumption. I go to the gym at least three times a week for an hour a time and I also walk pretty much every where I go.

I know losing weight isn't what its all about but its starting to get to me that my scales just won't budge and its been 5 months!!!!! How is that fair??? I've worked really really hard!!

  • Need advice on supporting partner?

My partner has recently lost his job and while he is very qualified and experienced is becoming increasingly de-motivated. He has applied for jobs and had interviews but always seems to just miss out. He is only 26 and in the beginning of his career. He blames himself for losing his job (wasn't his fault at all - he got completely screwed over, but that's another story) and his confidence is plumetting. How can I keep him motivated and focussed? I am running out of ideas - money is also getting tight.

  • What do you have a fear of?

My fear is of crossing roads. My boyfriend used to laugh at me but now realises just how scared I can get when crossing roads. I cannot stand it when you are waiting to cross and keep starting to cross and changing your mind - it makes me soooo anxious and when people cross half way and wait for the other side to clear is just awful!!!!

I would rather walk a mile up the road and use a crossing than attempt crossing in the middle!!

What are eveyone else's fears - especially the unusual ones!
