Where can you connect with Muslim penpals living in the middle east?
I'm wondering if there are any sites/services/etc to find pen pals from various religions/regions. I'm not religious but I'm fascinated by all the different human philosophies and ways of life.
I'm especially looking for perhaps more out of the "American Northeast" mainstream, Muslims especially because Americans and the Muslim world definitely need more inter-cultural dialog.
I'm not looking to sign up for any religion but I'm really fascinated to hear stories about growing up in those cultures, etc.
Additional Info
1: I'm 30, so presumably someone around my age group would be ideal.
2: I'm employed full time and in a relationship. I don't have anything even resembling free time. So I don't need "go outside and meet people" and other similar.
3: Not getting into personal details but my career and just general lifestyle are considered objectionable by most mainstream religions so... places I can find people open minded enough to talk to people they don't see eye-to-eye with would be preferable.
4: I'm not looking to convert to be converted but just to learn about other people.
P.S. I'd be just as happy with someone messaging me on Yahoo and I'd be more than happy to share my e-mail address with them.

2 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups6 years agoWhy does isotonic salt water in your sinuses not hurt?
I use a NeilMed sinus rinse kit and use it fairly regularly. One night I ran out of salt packs to make my isotonic solution and just use normal boiled water without the salt. Once the bottle cooled down to body temp I tried to use it but it HURT.
Why would fresh water hurt so badly when salt water you can barely feel?

I'm wondering if there are any sites/services/etc to find pen pals from various religions. I'm not religious but I'm fascinated by all the different human philosophies and ways of life.
I HAD a mormon pen pal for a few months but she's starting a family now and doesn't appear to have time anymore for online pen pals.
I'm especially looking for perhaps more out of the "American Northeast" mainstream: Mormons, Witnesses, Muslims, etc.

2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoLooking for a Muslim Pen Pal?
I think that to be a worldly person, one needs to understand a wide variety of different cultures and lifestyles.
If one considers being worldly a worthy goal (and I do), it would make sense to be in communication with a large number of different people.
To that end, I'm looking for a "penpal" of sorts. I don't think I've ever really known anyone of the Muslim religion and I think it would be interesting to strike up a dialogue and learn more about them.
To be clear, I am simply looking for a new acquaintance (who, hopefully, could one day become a friend) to tell me about themselves, their family, their lifestyle, etc.
I AM NOT LOOKING TO JOIN A RELIGION (indeed, I am in the midst if striking up similar dialogues with people of numerous beliefs) and I would show anyone willing to correspond with me the same respect and would not attack or ridicule their beliefs. I would QUESTION them certainly, as questions are the surest path to understanding, but I would respect their beliefs and ask that they would respect mine.
My question, therefore, is if there is any way in which I could find a Muslim penpal with which I could correspond. Specifically, I am looking for someone who was born and raised in the Muslim religion and has effectively lived a Muslim lifestyle for their entire life. I suspect I could learn the most from talking to such a person.
I would make no conditions except that they have an open mind and a willingness to understand me, even if parts of my lifestyle offended their sensibilities.
Although I do not insist on such, someone who can write properly would be strongly preferred.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoAndroid Soft Buttons App?
OK. Let me start by saying my AT&T Captivate's 4 capacitive buttons are broken broken broken times infinity. I am not interested in fixes for them, this is not the discussion at hand here.
What I AM looking for is a set of soft buttons similar to Virtual Button Bar or Button Savior except not quite so "soft". Overlays are infuriating, having to click to pop-out something is infuriating.
All I want is a simple bar of small icons at the bottom of my screen that are permanently and always there forever ever ever all the time always AND... (and this is the part where all the softbutton apps seem to fall right on their faces) because the bar is always always always out... I need something that is going to SHRINK the available desktop area so that nothing is going BEHIND it.
Does such an app even exist? This seems like such a simple thing you would expect to be supported in Android itself but it seems to not be the case.
Running Gingerbread on AT&T Captivate.
1 AnswerCell Phones & Plans9 years agoWhat European products are marketed as American?
I've noticed while traveling in Europe that certain brands of products that are either unpopular or nonexistent in the United States are nonetheless marketed as being either an American product or as the "American choice". How common is this? What brands do this?

I currently use a Logitech ergonomic keyboard but my tendinitis is getting worse. I work full time as an I.T. consultant and computer programmer and use the keyboard for eight to ten hours per day. My tendinitis is getting worse and I need to switch to an "even more ergonomic" keyboard. I'm willing to look into any crazy designs that might help. Just please NO RECOMMENDATIONS OF PRODUCTS YOU HAVE NOT PERSONALLY TRIED.

Wow... searching for cars on the internet SUCKS. Are there ANY newegg-like sites that give you a drilldown search for cars? Every site I find is just useless.
There has to be something, right?
3 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation1 decade agoAny QWERTY Android Smartphones for AT&T?
Are there any GSM smartphones for AT&T that run Android and have full QWERTY keyboards?
Also, please don't say the Telus Milestone because I'm not driving to Canada and paying $600 for a phone. I'm looking for something AT&T actually carries so I can get the phone cheaper with a contract.
2 AnswersCell Phones & Plans1 decade agoWhy is the christian fish thing on my egg carton?
I bought a carton of eggs the other day and last night I noticed that it has one of those fish outlines that christians like to put on the backs of their cars. Why would this be on my egg carton? Is this like some kind of special christian eggs? Did they come from a christian farm or something? Do I even want to eat these eggs? I'd prefer not to buy these eggs if they came from some kind of religious farm.
1 AnswerOther - Food & Drink1 decade agoWhich GPS navigator should I buy?
I am looking to buy a GPS navigation system but I have a few absolute requirements that any unit MUST have.
1: The unit must either come with or allow me to CHEAPLY add maps of North America AND mainland Europe. I cannot stress this enough. Maps of BOTH is a absolute must must must.
2: Map updates must be frequent and either cheap or free.
3: No ridiculous directions. I am tired of navigators that are either highway-phobic or have a strange fetish for using them.
4: Must account for traffic. When you navigate from I-95 in Connecticut to Washington DC in the middle of the day on a weekday, any navigator worth its salt will tell you to take the Tappan Zee and avoid the Cross Bronx Expressway. Any navigator that fails this basic test is simply trash.
5: Must come with (or let you add for free) voices in both English and German.
6: Letting me know what lane I should be in on a complicated highway is extremely important.
Is there any system out there that meets my needs?
1 AnswerOther - Electronics1 decade agoHow do I mount a German license plate on my American car?
I expect to be moving to Germany within the year and something has been bugging me. How am I supposed to mount the license plate when I re-register my car? The front I'm not very worried about since my American plate is currently only held on by a plastic mounting bracket and I assume I can just order a new bracket from the dealer.
The back is what worries me... the plate is mounted into a recessed area in the bumper... the plate will never fit... how the heck am I supposed to mount this thing short of buying a new bumper?
Maybe I can get an American shaped plate in Germany? I have seen a few of those American shaped plates driving around Scotland but I don't know if that's just a UK think or if you can get that in all of Europe.
2 AnswersInsurance & Registration1 decade agoCan dogs eat sushi rice?
I was making sushi and some of my sushi rice fell on the floor and my dog swooped in and ate it. She seemed to like it but I want to make sure that the sushi vinegar (rice vinegar with sugar and salt) that the rice contains won't hurt them before giving them any more.
