  • Why do my vinyl records keep skipping?

I have a GPO Attache Turnable and all records that I buy keep skipping! They are brand new and at first I thought it was the records that I was buying but not every single one can be at fault. So not I'm thinking it may be the record player itself.

Now this was a birthday present from my dad so I can't exactly give it back because it's been so long since it was given to me and hurt his feelings.

Is there anyway I can get this to stop and listen to my music without getting frustrated when the track stops and starts?

Odd thing is, when I got it, we played some of my dads very old records which played fine!

Thanks for your help in advance!

  • TV Licence for TVCatchup, away from home? [Read Info]?

    Hi,

I'm over 18 and I'm a resident at my parents home. They have a TV licence, however, I do not but of course still watch TV there.

I use TVCatchup (on my laptop) when I am there also but what I am confused about is whether I am allowed to use TVCatchup on my laptop when I am elsewhere, outside of the family home, for example a train or workplace.

I've read the FAQ on the TV Licence website but still am unsure.

I've taken this from the website:

"You need a TV Licence if...

You watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV - online, on a TV, or on any device (even a laptop)

This is the case whatever device you use – whether a laptop, PC, mobile phone, games console, digital box, VHS/DVD recorder or anything else. It also includes programmes you watch online at the same time as they’re being shown on TV, for example live sport. (However, if your mobile device isn’t plugged in, you’ll still be covered by your parents’ licence.)"

  • Is it worth doing a low paid job for a year which will give me a lot of experience?

    Hi,

I'm a recent graduate of Criminology and I would really like to become a primary school teacher.

I've been applying to schools for experience before doing my PGCE however have not received any replies.

I think because I haven't done a degree in a national curriculum subject. I have some experience working with students however not enough.

I have the opportunity for a voluntary position with a charity organisation which will allow me to work within schools, in classrooms and basically be an extra hand for teachers. The position only pays under £90 for subsidiary costs...for an 11 month period, five days a week.

Is it worth doing? The opportunity not only builds my experience but also helps out deprived schools, therefore the community.

  • Applied for a recruitment job, no experience [please read on]?

    Hi,

I'm a recent graduate of Criminology. I haven't been able to find a job within this field or related but I'm still looking.

I've applied for a graduate recruitment consultant job and have been invited for an interview.

I have absolutely no idea what happens in a job such as this and only really applied because the job description said experience wasn't necessary and they're really just looking for recent graduates.

I now have an interview and I truly do not know what to say or do in the interview, even after researching.

Any advice or info would be a big help!

    Thank you.

  • HTC not restarting after software update.?

    Hi,

There was a software update for my HTC One X this morning and I selected to update it. The first attempt was unsuccessful because I had a low battery. I put on charge, connecting it to my laptop.

I did not have a wifi connection to connect it so opted to use my data plan one. The update was "successful" and asked me to restart the phone.

Still on charge, I pressed to restart. A picture came on with the software update icon (for a long while) but then switched off, then the red LED light flashed for a bit, then the icon, then switched off, then red light...and so on.

This was hours ago and I now put it on charge in the mains. The red light came on after 10 mins, then the update icon. Now the phone is completed off.

I have no clue with what has happened!

What has actually happened? What do I do? Will this fix itself over night or should I take it to a phone shop?

    Thank you.

  • Hotmail said they've blocked my account...?

I received 3 emails today from Hotmail saying that they've blocked my account and that someone has been using it to send spam.

    The email looks genuine.

They put a secure link in the email, which will re-activate my account.

I clicked on it and the link becomes blocked because it's detected as a phishing site. So I've not proceeded.

Am I right to do so?

Please, no sarcastic and rude comments.

  • I want to study Law after my undergraduate degree...?

I'm currently studying BA Criminology and would like to study Law after. I really enjoy criminology and while studying it I've really enjoyed the law side to it. I considered doing Law originally but Criminology interested me more but I'm now in my 2nd year and i'm contemplating whether to do a Law degree after. But I don't understand how this would work...

Can I do a postgraduate degree with a BA Criminology degree? Or do I have to have a LLB?

Would it be a 3 year course or less? Or even if it is a good idea at all? With tuition fees rising and the job market being what it is, is it worth studying more?

I'm confused and while it is my 2nd year I would very much like to think about it now at an earlier stage then in my 3rd year when I'm stressing out on workload and what not.

    Thank you.

  • Ways to relieve back pain....?

Hey! My dad has had 2 major operations on his lower back because he had slipped discs. He is also a mechanic so regularly deals with heavy objects. He has recently had a big car accident too and this had added a great deal to his back pain. I know, he has had some bad luck. He has goes to a chiropractor and physio but this doesn't seem to help.

Are there any other ways in relieving his back pain?? We have tried massaging, pain relief medication and heat/cool packs.
