  • What the Heck kind of tie is this????/?

Okay, so I bought a square-end knitted tie at the second hand store thinking it was a square ended necktie. The tag on it says it was sold by the Sears Men's Store and has a copyright on the logo of 1949. Well, I didn't look close enough because it's about a foot and a half too short to be a necktie. Since the tag is situated vertically, I thought it might be a bow tie.

So I gave a shot at tying it as a bow tie and it's way too long for that.

I like to think of myself as a sophisticated, debonair, professional man, and I love to go to work in that vintage-retro fashion style. Not only does it make me look hot as all get-out, but it's my excuse to hit up the second hand stores, eBay, Etsy, etc, etc, instead of going to the dumb, barfy mall.

When it comes down to brass tacks, I know this tie would be just bangin' around my neck. But first I have to figure out what it is! Can you help?

The tie is a total of about 4 1/2 feet long. The "short end" is about 12 inches long and 2 inches wide. Then it narrows down to one inch wide for about 18 inches. I'm assuming this slimmer middle part wraps around the neck. Then it widens back out to two inches for another two feet.

Does anybody have any idea what kind of tie this is and how I'm supposed to tie it?

  • Will the Obamacare Death Panels be as bad as O'Saddama's Nukular Weapons?

I was just thinking about all the terrible calamities that have befallen us in my short life, and I think the Death Panels are just the scariest! Remember when AIDS was going to spread like wildfire and 1/3 of us would have it by 2000? What about Y2K, SARS, Bird Flu, Pig Flu, the Second Great Depression? Teh Illegals, Flag Burners, and that great perennial Nemesis, the Federal Deficit--And Al Quida's henchmen are still playing Monkey-Bar Ninja and lighting their crotch on fire in airplane bathrooms! Scary Stuff!

Gosh, so many calamities, so much things to be frightened about! So....will the Death Panels kill as many Americans as the Iraqi terrist stockpiles?!?!?!

  • Why should I give a rat's patootie about the Israel/Palestinian civil war?

Does it make a bit of difference whether the Israelis or Palestinians "control" the only part of the Middle East without oil? If so, how could it possibly affect me? Why should I care if those people like killing each other?

  • How many "natural deaths" and "accidents" on the obituaries page are actually murders?

How many people do their wives, husbands, parents, kids, etc, in and make it look like a regular old death? What's your take?

  • Whose fault is it that the Vikings lost to the Dolphins today?

One the one hand, Brett and the offense turned it over 5 times. On the other hand, there were three field goals they could have taken, but the coach preferred to "go for it" on fourth down. Maybe something I'm missing here. What do you think?

  • Objective evidence that Republicans provide better economic leadership than Democrats?

Looking at aggregate economic activity based on any criteria, are you aware of any objective evidence that the US economy under Congressional or Presidential leadership provided by the Republican party than under the Democrats? Can you please link to it?

Objective, aggregate data for Presidential leadership shows that over the last 110 years Democratic Presidents have outperformed their GOP counterparts from the following perspectives:

    Lower average rates of unemployment

Higher average annual income growth across all levels

Higher average annual stock market returns

    Lower average interest rates

    Lower average Federal deficit spending

In the event that you don't know of any objective data supporting an economic reason to vote Republican, can you enlighten me as to why anyone would choose to?

  • Do you perceive the world to be a dangerous place?

When I tell people that I don't perceive the world to be dangerous, I am met with shock. Partly it's that I know my chances of meeting disaster are very, very low. So I just am not scared by any of it.

But what about you? Do you think the world is dangerous? In what ways? And why do you suppose so many people (I would even venture most people) think it is?

  • Can you give me a coherent or logical argument against gay marriage rights?

A little background on me--I'm not a religious person, and have never been married. Most of my social views are predicated on the live and let live philosophy. Gay marriage has never been a problem for me because I don't care who marries whom, who divorces whom, who has kids with whom...none of it has ever bothered me.

I've heard and read a lot of arguments about gay marriage rights, for and against. The problem, from my perspective, is that the arguments against seem to mostly be based on religious beliefs or pre-existing moral judgments of the arguer.

Can you make, or do you know of any factual, well reasoned argument against gay marriage rights, especially one that is not based in religion? Thanks in advance!

  • What does the term "Middle Class Anxiety" mean to you, personally?

Do you believe that social classes exist in America?

How would you define your socio-economic position (for perspective)?

If you believe that classes exist in the US, do you believe there are stressors and anxieties that help define America's middle class? Why or why not?

How do you believe those anxieties (or lack of anxieties) manifest themselves in day-to-day behavior?

I'm doing a little research here. Thanks for taking part!

  • Is Bill Clinton the father?

It is well known that the former President met with Governor Palin several times during the last decade. The two have also heaped massive praise and compliments on each other. It's 90% to 100% chance that he fathered Trig and I wouldn't be surprised if Bristol's baby carries the Clinton genes too. Sheesh. He's probably my dad and yours, too! With the way things are in this country. What do you think?

  • Why is there a climate change / global warming debate?

There's this little gizmo called the internets that lets anybody with a connection gather his or her own raw data and do his or her own mathematical / statistical / climatic / religious analysis. I can see no reason that any serious person would debate it when it's that easy to find the evidence for oneself. So why is there even disagreement on the subject?
