  • BLEH! Maggots in the kitchen!?

Even though our house is clean and was brand spankin new when we moved in to it. We've had a major fly problem.

We never saw any maggots inside of the home though so figured the flies must've just been in the trash breeding and flying in whenever we open the door (and they do.. sigh).

Woke up today to find my husband sweeping up the floor b/c there were little squirmy maggots spread out across the kitchen floor.

Where on earth are they coming from? He already moved the fridge and the stove and neither one had a nest of them. The stove had absolutely none, and the fridge had maybe a few that looked to have just crawled under it randomly.

What can we do other than what we already have.

We've put up fly paper, which hasn't caught a single thing yet.

We kill any fly we can, but there are always 5+ more ready to zip in whenever we open up a door outside.

We have pets so using bug spray isn't an option.

  • Spray glue flammable after it dries?

Bought some 3M spray adhesive for styrofoam today. It warns that the liquid and vapors are flammable, so not sure if it still is after it dries or not?

Using it for foam sculpting that I'll be using a hot knife on once the glue dries and just need to make sure it's ok.

  • Good pop songs w/ a lot of bass?

Looking for some good catchy songs with a lot of bass. Not really in to rap much, but don't want pure techno type of music (where there's either no singing or it's a constantly repeated lyric).

Something similiar to Far East Movement or Cataracs.

  • Chinese Restaurant style chicken satay?

Looking for a recipe that is similiar to what the local fast food chinese restaurants serve.

It's chicken thighs skewered on sticks. It's deep fried (no batter on it), and has some kind of rub on it that gives it a very unique flavor.

No peanut kind of sauce, which seems to be all I can find when googling.

Thinking maybe the spices used is chinese 5 spice, but my taste buds aren't the best lol.

    Any help would be fantastic.

  • What materials should I use for light-weight replica sword, mace, axe?

As the question said. I'm wondering what material to use to create a light weight replica weapon?

Nothing like cardboard or anything. I need something that I can sculpt. Not sure about clay since it could get heavy if I have to use a lot.

Was thinking maybe a pvc pipe for the base, then covering it with form. Forming the foam in to the basic shape, and then using a layer of clay or maybe plaster of paris or something on the outside to create the details?

I don't plan on using it at all. It's just for show so it doesn't have to be withstand abuse or anything like that.

  • Cooking a turkey, but need some clarification?

I plan on using this recipe

    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Homestyle-Turkey-the-...

But the recipe just says to place the turkey in a dutch oven or roasting pan but doesn't mention if you should put the turkey on a rack or not. Is it just a given that you should always cook your turkey on a rack?

Also, the recipe says to cook a 12lb turkey for 3-4hrs, well, I have a 21lb turkey to fix. Does that mean mine will take almost twice as long? Just seems conflicting with other recipes and tips I've read concerning cooking time.

  • Making an elaborate wearable masquerade mask?

Want to make these for a wedding coming up.

Plan on using plaster wrap cloth and form it to our faces, but I'm not sure how to do certain details that I really want.

Such as over exaggerated facial features. Like this mask.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/Shollia/thum...

Or something like this one where the design on it is raised

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/Shollia/mask...

How do you add things like that without making the mask too heavy. I know you could just keep piling on the plaster to create the looks, but I'm afraid that would make it too heavy to be wearable.

Also, I really like the hat design of this. that jester look. What kind of material would I use to create the base for the hat/ribbons looking part?

Any help, ideas, suggestions, whatever would be great :)

  • Need help with picking plus size dress?

I'm not a girly girl and have no fashion sense, but I need a dress for a wedding coming up at the end of Oct and well, I want to look good for it.

I found a few dresses that I do like, BUT I'm not sure what would look good on my body type.

I wear an 18W or XL. My belly is pretty large and sticks out. I like empire waists, BUT I think it would make me look pregnant. I do have one of those bustier kind of bras from my own wedding OR a regular corset that will help some with that problem.

Here is a side shot and a front shot of my torso.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/Shollia/weig...

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/Shollia/weig...

These are a couple of dresses I've picked so far.

Would those look ok on my body type? I really like the zelda or the anastasia dress, but it's difficult to tell how they would look without seeing it on someone.

I know it would be best to just go try on some stuff, which will probably happen, but I'd like to get an idea of what I should be looking for first.

  • Looking for a strong alcohol mixed drink without the alcohol taste?

Looking for a strong mixed drink that doesn't have that alcohol taste or that 'burn'.

Pretty much, I want to taste as little of the alcohol as possible, but still be able to catch a buzz on one or 2 of the drinks.

Anything other than long island ice tea would be great. And no coconut or vanilla flavored stuff please.

  • What is this? Whip cream, pineapple, etc....?

My husband's mother makes this and I want to make it myself. I don't want to ask her b/c well, that's a whole other story.

It's all a light lime green color. It's whip cream, pineapple chunks, and I think walnuts. There may be something else in it.

I thought it may have been a Paula Deen recipe, but I can't find anything like it.

Any help in identifying what this recipe is would be great.

  • Growing Chinese Cabbage?

I'm growing some kind of variaty of chinese cabbage. I THINK it's Michihili but I'm not sure.

My question is, do the plants naturally grow in to that bullet compact kind of shape we're all used to seeing cabbage in?

Or do you have to tie it off for it to grow that way?

The photos I see all seem to be that nice tight compact growth, but mine just seem to be loosely growing out.

Have a photo to show what it's doing. Keep in mind that its leaves are resting on some string, but if it weren't the leaves would be spread all out.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/Shollia/Gard...

So should I tie it to give it that compact shape? Or will it do that on its own naturally?

And if so, based on how this place looks, when? It's pretty huge right now

  • First time corn grower.. some questions?

This is our first year growing corn. Most of the plants look good, but some of them aren't growing very well and still look pretty sickly from when I transplanted them about 3 weeks ago.

Anywho, question, should I put down a little more fert pellets around those plants? They're slow release so it wouldn't burn the plant roots or anything like that I don't think.

Also, the corn that is growing well seem to be leaning now. I noticed it starting to happen 2 days ago, and it's gotten worse. What would cause that? The're in raised bed gardens, so there's plenty of soil drainage. There's also compost, top soil, & pellet fertilizer mixed in everywhere.

And finally, when I was messing with the corn to see if I could straighten them out, a swarm of those tiny gnats came up. Do they do harm to corn plants? I've also noticed these small flies that are always on their leaves. Should I worry about those?

  • Cucumber plant still small but got its first flower?

Have a cucumber plant in my garden that has gotten its first flower. Only thing is is that the plant is still kind of small.

The plants went through transplant shock when I moved them from indoors to outside so I'm sure that probably stunted the growth some.

Should I be concerned that the plant is still pretty small but it's already flowering?

If so, what should I do to help get it to grow a little bigger?

My gardens are raised beds, get watered every morning. There's compost, top soil, & fertilizer pellets.

  • Should I bake the graham cracker crust first?

I'm making a cheesecake in a springform pan, and making a graham cracker crust for it. All of the recipes I've found says to bake the crust first, but do I have to do that? Or can I just let the crust set or chill for a little bit and use it that way?

  • Watermelon leaves getting yellow splotches on them?

They looked fine before, but I noticed today that they're getting these yellow splotches on their leaves.

Tried getting a photo of it

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/Shollia/Gard...

Not sure if you can really tell any difference.

And ideas on what's going on?

  • Need some help finding out what's wrong w/ cucumber plants (photos)?

Not sure what's going on with my cucumber plants but it's not good. Their first leaves seem to be going pale (pale green, no yellow) and dying off, while their new leaves are getting these small white dots on them. Their 2nd leaves appear to be I dunno, not as big as they should be and also maybe a little shriveled. Also, I bought and put in 3 already grown cucumber plants in to the bunch, and sure enough, a few days later, they have the same symptoms.

I have a couple of photos showing some of them.

Not great photos but hopefully someone can help.

  • Cucumber plants have tiny white spots all over their leaves?

What is it and what can I do if anything to help the plants?

Not sure what's wrong, but it seems to be spreading.

I started all of the plants from seeds, and they were fine until I transfered them to the garden.

I acclimated them, and things seemed to look to be getting better until their leaves started to go pale, then these white spots appeared.

I recently bought some already grown cucumber plants, and the white spots seem to have spread to them.

The plants are still young, so I'm thinking maybe I should just pull them up and start over?

If I do start over, what can I do to make sure this doesn't happen again (other than planting straight in the garden).

What can I do to I guess, disinfect the soil if whatever it is is still in there?

  • Should I add some compost/manure to the top of our veg garden?

We have 2 raised vegetable gardens. Both have a layer of compost/manure at the bottom, w/ topsoil on top of it. Mixed in that is some of those fertilizer pellets.

The plants are still pretty young. Most either just getting their 2nd-3rd set of leaves.

Would adding some compost the top and around each plant do anything?

I just don't think the topsoil we purchased was very good quality and may not be giving the plants the nutrients they need.
