  • Can a husband legally force his wife to get rid of her dog?

Here's the scenario. Married couple in Virginia. They have a family dog. The dog goes in the house. Flooring now has to be replaced because of this. The husband works far enough from home that he leaves before morning feeding/potty and gets home late in the evening after feeding/potty. The wife won;t hold the dogs dinner for him.

Obviously I told him the dog is a symptom of a larger issue. But, for now the husband wants to cut losses to home repairs and legally force wife to get rid of the dog.

  • 1998 Bravada only has heat?

My '98 Olds Bravada is stuck on heat. I can't seem to get it to vent outside cool air in. The air is broken, but if I can get the vent to pull in outside air, it would be ok. As it is, I can turn the blower on any setting, but not adjust the temperature. Also, even when the blower is off, it still pulls in heat. How to check and fix this?

  • hp pavilion stalls during system recovery or windows 7 install?

My Pavilion desktop (2.5 yrs old) stalls while I perform a System Recovery from its secondary partition. It also stalls when I try a fresh upgrade of Windows 7 from DVD. It seems to fail in both cases where there is a large set of files to copy, or files to unpack and copy.

I ran system diagnostics and particularly hard drive diagnostics, and it was fine. Included were memory and cpu diags as well.

One last note. There is no additional equipment added to this machine - just the original equipment.

  • Problem with 1.5 yr old dog potties inside, tears items?

7 months ago, we got a dog, which was about 8 months old. We think it is a pinscher, terrier, Yorkie mix.

    She is 1.5 years old

    She is spayed

Our home is an older farm house with strong earthy smells in it

Before she came to us, when she was a young puppy - for about 6 or 7 months, she was in a chaotic environment where small children grabbed at her, and it was very noisy.

Our current environment is busy and sometimes noisy - with 7 people in the house - older kids up to 20, plus parents.

She makes potties inside. She does this primarily in two rooms. She also does this no matter how often she is taken outside.

She also tears into lots of our items, also including bedding, pillows, etc. We have several chew toys, which she sometimes uses, and will play tug of war with them, but still rips up anything at will.

Can she realistically stop making her mess in the house and change her behavior? Or are the house smells and noise going to keep prompting her to potty and tear things up?

  • if I am a dependent, do I mark an exemption on Michigan income tax?

I am a college student. I filed a 1040EZ. I am also a dependent of my parents. On the 1040EZ you don't mark a number for exemptions. On the Michigan personal tax form, it asks how many exemptions I listed on the IRS form. That would be "0" zero right?

  • Can I leave a car or tractor battery in the cold?

I have a car and tractor I only use occasionally. They are stored in a barn that is not heated, but is closed from the elements. If I only start them once a week or so, do I need to pull them and put them in when I want to run them, or can they take the cold?

  • car has floating feeling and jumps?

I have a 1993 Ford. When going down the road, it kind of feels like it floats in the steering. Almost like a boat. Also, if i hit a pothole or bump, sometimes the whole car, or maybe the back, shifts to the right or left. what is the probably cause? Struts? I know 3 of four tires are very good, one on the back needs to be changed (this weekend). Not usre if they are balanced though.

  • Problem with 1 yr old dog tearing up things?

We have a 1 yr old terrier, pincher mix (with also some Yorkie in there). We got the dog 3 months ago. Before that, the first six months she was in a large family environment that was chaotic, with many small children. Before we got her, she was with a young couple that also had a German Shepherd.

In case it helps, our house is an old farm house, and still has a "michigan basement", which is half dirt. So, there are always some earthy smells here and there.

She is friendly, but has some problems. One is that sometimes she saves going doo doo until she is in the house. She will piddle outside fine and often goes doo doo outside.

The second thing is that she will destroy things. We had object up on an end table. She pulled them off and tore them apart. Yesterday, I came home to find that she dug a hole in our mattress. This happens regularly. Pillows, toys, etc. Even Optimus Prime didn't stop her, as she beheaded him and chewed him up.

The dog is sweet and friendly.

She is crate trained, but has soiled her cage on a couple of occasions. We try to get her outside every hour to help potty train her. She is left home for 2 to 4 hours per day. Occasionally, she is eft home 8 hours, but maybe one day per week.

Ideas on how to handle her behavior?

  • Best smoke detector for my needs?

Ideally would like to find a smoke detector that has these capabilities:

    120V w 9v backup - not just 9v

    Dual ionization and photoelectric sensors

Ability to interconnect to other units

    NOT First Alert

I don't see units like this at Lowe's or Home Depot - online or in the store. To me it seems ideal, that in a basement I may want just one type, bedrooms and other areas, both types.

Either why aren't these produced, or where are some shopping links to them?

  • Building credit for young adult?

I need to build my credit and need advice. I have one Visa credit card from my bank. I work at a store, and have for about 16 months, part time. When I try to get a loan, the lenders say I need more lines of credit. Which specific places should I try that are easy to get credit from? I tried a couple of department stores. Which ones have easier approval? Overall, my credit score is good, I just don;t have much credit.

  • is this a radiator problem or a thermostat problem?

I have a 2002 Pontiac Montana. Today, the engine started laboring and the temperature gauge went to the top. I pulled over and notice that the coolant recovery tank is full -- it is usually empty or near empty.

Is this a stuck thermostat or how can I diagnose it? Does anyone know if the thermostat on a Montana is accessible and is it the type where I have to unbolt an assembly or is it like some imports where I can twist and pull it off?

    Thanks.

  • Car battery or electrical problem?

    I have a 2002 Pontiac Montana.

I am having a problem with my battery or electrical system. If my van sits overnight, the battery needs a jump. If the car only sits about five to eight hours, it starts - sometimes almost doesn't. When it is cold out, the battery lasts about half that time.

I have a switch to cut off all the interior lights, so they aren't draining the battery. I had the alternator changed about six months ago. It seems to charge the battery fine since the car starts fine. It is only when it sits in the cold, or overnight for more than about eight hours that I have a problem.

Now that temps are warming up, about 1/3 the time it does does in the morning, too.

    What is the likely cause?

    Thanks in advance.

  • will a low cost thermostat work well enough here?

I have a part of my house that gets occasional use. I want to put in a thermostat to control its heat as it has its own furnace. Would a low-cost ($17) "heat only" thermostat for work well enough in this case? Are they reliable for turning the heat on and off?

  • Question on an account in collections?

Is there a change in the way accounts are sent to collections? I thought in the past that an account was sold to a collection agency at a discount and the agency would keep the difference between the discounted amount and whatever else above that they could collect, up the the face value.

Now, it seems that when accounts are sent to collections, the face value plus a service fee is collected, so that the person paying it pays much more than the face value of the account. Is this accurate and does someone have more info on this?
