5 AnswersOther - Family & Relationships9 years agoGirlfriend suffers from depression. How can I support her?
So my GF of just over a year and a half has these bouts with depression off and on. She has issues with her daughters father, her mother and fathers declining health, her 10yo daughters acting out, and financial issues. She constantly tells me what a wonderful man I am and she is lucky to be with me. And none of her depression has to do with me. But when she gets down on herself she says I should drop her since she always seems to disappoint me. We don't see each other a lot because we are taking it slow about bring our kids into our relationship. I just find it very hard because she isolates herself and doesn't want to be consoled. I'm a nurturing type of person and can communicate openly. She came out of a 20+yr marriage and has put up huge walls and has trouble communicating her feelings. Giving her space and time to herself seems to be what works for her. But I am left feeling like I should be doing something more for her. I care very much and love her. Any advice as to what else I can do?
4 AnswersMental Health10 years agoGirlfriend wont commit...?
We are both 41, divorced, she has a 9yo daughter that lives with her and I have two girls 3 & 7 that I have joint custody of. She has fear of commitment having been in a bad marriage for 20 years. We have been together for a year and a half and have yet to move forward in our relationship or include our kids. I have expressed how much I would love for us to get to know each others kids more and start thinking about what we want for our future. We are very much in love, tell each other regularly and talk every day. Our sex life is incredible! We do only see each other once or twice each week or every other week. Our communication styles are very different, I am open in my expression and she bottles things up or avoids.
I am just at a loss as to whether she wants a future with me or if this is leading no where. She just says she needs time and I have been patient. She is definitely worth waiting for but she has very low self esteem and tells me I can do much better then her. How long do I wait? Is this all a test to see if I can be trusted? Am I pushing things too fast? So confused....
2 AnswersSingles & Dating10 years agoMy GF doesn't like me to buy her stuff...?
My GF and I are both 41 and out of long term marriages and have been together for just over a year. We are very happy and love each other very much. I like to buy her flowers or clothes or what ever I find she might like. She told me this weekend after I got her a leather jacket that she doesn't want me to buy her stuff. She said she doesn't need anything but my love. Any other women out there have a take on this?
1 AnswerSingles & Dating1 decade agoTaking a break in a relationship......?
Me and my gf have been together for 9 months. I am divorced and she is going through one also. She wants time to work on herself, finish her divorce and be a better mother to her 9yo daughter. We are very much in love and hate being apart, but she said she needs to not worry about disappointing me when she has issues and cant see me or or give me the attention she wishes she could give me.
Has anyone gone through a break in your relationship and have you made it back together?
Thanks for listening. In love and worried....
7 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoCouple communication.... =(?
So me and my girlfriend have been together for about 8 months. We are both out of long marriages. Last night we had our first fight/disagreement, kinda petty. After a couple hours she was quiet and ended up leaving cause she was upset. Now she has told me that she is horrible at talking about her feelings, while I want to talk about everything. She mostly gives the silent treatment. I have text-ed her and told her I love her and to call me when she wants to. We usually talk/text several times a day, how long do I give her before I attempt to call her or go see her? Thanks.
2 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoVisitation rights with my kids...?
I am newly divorced and my ex wife seems to think she has a say what i do or with whom I am with while I have my weekends with my kids. My girlfriend is midway though her divorce, has a girl my oldest kids age and they get along. I want to be able to do things together. My ex doesn't like the thought of my girlfriend or her kid seeing my kids since her divorce isn't final. My girlfriends soon to be ex is an alcoholic and my ex is afraid he might harass us. Does she have a say in this?

He is a fisherman in Alaska and gone most of the year. He also has a girlfriend in another country. Should I just ask him if he cares?
6 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoOpen marriage relationship........?
My wife does not have a big sex drive due to an event that happened in her past as a child involving a cousin. This came to light after we were together for a few years and she started seeing a therapist about it. We have been together for 12yrs and married for 6yrs. She still does not have very much interest in sex and does it mostly for my benefit. She told me this weekend that since she knows that I would never leave her that she would not mind if I sought out other women to have sex with. I love my wife very much and would never leave her, but sex every couple of months does suck. Can this work?
