  • Does anyone have an idea for paving a weird walkway in my front yard?

We are trying to figure out how to "pave" a bare dirt walkway in our front yard. It's a 1/4 circle curve which starts out at 7 feet wide close to the house ( just outside the front door, after the step) and tapers to 5'4" at the driveway, and is 40 feet long from top to bottom. We have just seeded a lawn on both sides of it and ordered perennials and ferns for flower beds along the length of the house, but no longer have a budget for the walkway. Any ideas for something attractive yet cheap ( or better yet, FREE! ;) ) would be greatly appreciated. We have decided NOT to use wood chips because we have carpet right inside our front door. With five children in and out all day as well as twins that crawl around and pick things up off the floor, we felt that this was not a good option for us. After searching the internet for weeks to give us ideas, we're stumped. Would LOVE the input of others. We're in Southern Utah, if that helps at all

  • If I purchase a Frigidaire FDB1100RHS dishwasher will I also need to purchase a "kit"?

I am needing to replace an existing dishwasher because it's a P.O.S, frankly. Am looking at the Frigidaire FDB1100RHS ( link below ) because I am not financially able to spend more, and I have been shopping for weeks, and this one FINALLY has everything I want. My question is, will I need to purchase a "kit" that has the power cord and the hoses and all that lovely stuff? Also there are no customer reviews for this machine. Anyone have one that wants to tell me what they think?

  • Do your children have daily chores? PLEASE RESPOND?

Such as doing the dishes, cleaning the living room, playroom, bathrooms, feeding the dog? Mine do. They each have one chore per day in addition to keeping their rooms tidy They feel HORRENDOUSLY put upon. Please respond, whether you are a parent, a grandparent, and aunt, uncle,a kid, a teen in college and no longer living at home, whatever stage of life you are in, please let my children know they are NOT the only children on earth to have chores! Thanks!

  • bruises on my baby from crawling?

one of my twins has several bruises from running in to things while he crawls ( he likes to head butt things). I'm a bit concerned however because they seem rather deep and have been dark for several days. I don't want people to think i am tossing Logan around. he is only 8 months old. Colton, my other twin, has NO bruises. I;m scared to take them anywhere for fear someone will call CPS on me. Has anyone else had a baby that bruises easily?

  • Was my pappy right ( I really AM literate, I swear)?

On my 18th birthday, my father ( affectionately known as Pappy) sat me down and said, " SO! Caryn, how do you feel?" Being graceful and eloquent, my reply was something like, " Uh.....fine?".

He proceeded to tell me that this is the way I would feel for the rest of my life. I blew it off back then. But NOW, I am 34 with seven children, and still feel 18.

Just got done answering the "is it morally wrong to have children after 30" question, and it made me think of this. So. What do all you "older" ( well, over 18, anyway..lol) parents think? Was Pappy right? Do you still feel the way you did when you were 18? Obviously we matured more....but otherwise, is it accurate?

  • Why is it sych an oddity to find that parents care about and are concerned for their children?

Whenever I ask a question concerning any one (or more) of my children, I always receive multiples responses from people that end in " it's great that you care about your child(ren)". Don't get me wrong.. I appreciate the praise. But, why is this such an oddity? To me, the most important role of a mother is that of the caretaker, the protector, the unequaled responsibility to keep her children safe and secure and relatively happy. I do not understand mothers ( or either parent, for that matter) that throw up their hands and say, " well, I can't do it, and that's all there is to it" or, " well, i'll just have to beat some sense in to him/her". Any opinions?

  • my learning disabled son got in a fight at school today and was suspended. Can you read and offer advice?

My learning disabled son who is 12 got in a fight today at school all because he got a haircut last night and he was embarassed. He went from the greasy haired "beatles" look to a buzz. He wore his Hoodie in the classroom and one of his "friends" yanked the hoodie back, and Tyler grabbed it quick to put it back on his head. the friend yanked it back off, scraping Tyler's head with his nails as he did so. Tyler then proceeded to punch the other boy in the face several times, and from what I understand from the principal's call this morning, the fight was DEFINITELY not one sided. What worries me is, when I picked Tyler up from school, he was crying and talking about how he wanted to kill the other boy. Keep in mind that Tyler is learning disabled, and so is the other kid . We had a long talk and Tyler told me that he doesn't know what to do when he gets so angry. HOWEVER, this is the child that is so mellow at home he takes care of my 8month old twins while I make dinner. He voluntarily plays with the three year old. I have NEVER seen the violent side of Tyler. I tried to talk to the school counselor about him and the counselor told me to put Tyler in Military school. Was not even willing to TALK to Tyler. Not even one time. I don't know what to do. Can anyone offer advice? Obviously we are researching counseling for Tyler.. but what can I do at home, as his mother? I'm VERY upset. He can go back to school tomorrow, but is worried that the other boy will kill him, because apparently he has said this more than once to Tyler.

  • How many parents here read parenting magazines/books?

Do you find them helpful or do you just feel more inadequate? Just curious if they really are beneficial to the general population.

  • how many feedings of solids do you give you 8 month old per day?

My twins between them will eat a cereal bowl FULL of babyfood mixed with baby cereal twice a day, in addition to bottles. They are not obese.. though they are chunky. They are both in the 25th percentile for their age, which is normal according to the pedi, because they were so small at birth ( 5.5 pounds and 5.15 pounds). Is this amount of baby food more or less than other babies? just curious. It's been a while since i've had babies this age

  • Has anyone discovered that their BF has been checking up on them?

I woke up this morning and discovered that my BF had gone through my email and my IM acccounts, as well as all the texts and call history on my phone. I have changed my passwords and locked my phone, but I feel SO violated. There was nothing there about him or FOR him, and I have not done anything that would be considered inappropriate. Has anyone else gone through this? How did you deal with it? I'm waffling between anger and sadness. I dont' know how to approach him about this. Help?

  • My ten year old turns me in to child services if I do something he doesn't like. What can I do?

My ten year old son, " Tom", has discovered how to turn me in for child abuse whenever he doesn't like something I do. This last time, he jumped in puddles in both pair of his school shoes ll afternoon, then left them outside over night, so they were frozen rock solid in the morning. I told him that he would have to wear his church shoes to school, because those were the only other shoes he has. He called me a psycho b****, threw the church shoes across the yard and ran to school in his socks (which were wet and muddy by the time he got there- we live across the street from school). At school he told the counselors that I had beaten him ( NOT true), and they gave him new shoes and socks, attention, and sympathy, then called child services. I had to go through a home study, be questioned, and do all the other fun things associated with child abuse allegations. He did it again today. Told the counselors I beat him ( I asked him to take out the trash), and I got another surprise visit from DCF, and was warned that if this happened again, I would be charged because of the frequency of allegations. WHAT DO I DO?!?! Tom has never had a mark on him, I NEVER beat him. I really think that he has just learned that he gets what he wants when he does this. I can't punish him.. Lord knows THAT would be another allegation. HELP! please....

  • How do I tell my sister that it just ain't gonna happen?

My sister wants my three year old son ( who will be 4 in April) to be the ring bearer at her wedding. The problems are many. I'll give a brief over view. I have not spoken to her since January, when my father had a heart attack and she could not be bothered to sit with him in the hospital at my mother's request ( she made her fiance do it so she could go shopping). She could not be bothered to visit him at home when he was recovering. She could not be bothered to help out with Mom and Dad's bills (mortgage, utilities, car payment, etc) when he missed so much work because of the heart attack. My siblings and I covered all the bills. She has repeatedly changed the date of her wedding, so no one really knows when it will be. First it was June 26th ( my twins' first birthday), but she changed it because her fiancee's cousin has a dance recital that day. Then it was September. Now it's supposedly July, but she is angry because no one ( my siblings and I) has any money to give her for her wedding. Also she is angry that I cannot afford to purchase a tux for my son to be in her wedding party. I feel she is selfish. I used my tax return to help mom and dad... but there is nothing left of it now. She wants each sibling (there are 5 of us, not counting her) to give her $1500 for her wedding in addition to a gift, PLUS wants mom and dad to cover any other expenses. She only calls when she wants something, and it's become more than I know how to deal with. What to do?!?! She's 29 years old but acts 6. I'm frustrated beyond belief. HELP?!?!
