My schedule consists of exploring undescovered lands on weekends, discovering various species of lobster in the summer, uncovering the best kept secrets of the culinary world in the winter, and attending high school during the rest of the year. You know, same old, same old. My hobbies include underwater basket weaving, underwater welding, underwater extreme ironing, underwater extreme chess, and playing in my school band. I'm also the news editor for my school paper.

  • Name of Egyptian soccer movie, filmed in the 2000s? Any help?

Last summer I watched an Egyptian film on a plane, and it was about the life of a famous Egyptian soccer player...I could've sworn it was called "The International," but it turns out that's not it (Google didn't help). Can you think of the title? It was a really amazing movie...

  • What's the difference between an abstract and a conclusion in an essay?

I'm currently writing the conclusion of a biology investigation that I'm working on. Soon I'll also have to write an abstract for it and my question is, aren't they both summaries of the entire paper? How can I differentiate between the two?

If you've had to write a scientific paper, you know what I mean. Care to share some past experiences and tips? Answers are much appreciated!

  • My Yahoo! mail site is suddenly in large print...How to reverse this?

I don't think I did anything different, but maybe I pushed a strange button combination while I was checking my email. Now the site is entirely large print. I do NOT want this.

Has this ever happened to you? How do I make it smaller again? (It's actually very annoying!)

    Answers are much appreciated! Thanks!

  • Less permanent than a perm but more long-lasting than styling?

Is there anything in the middle ground? I would like to do something different to my hair since it's been the same for the longest time. I have regular long brown hair (to the middle of my back), no layers or bangs. Suggestions?

My hair is usually really frizzy and curly/wavy. I usually don't straighten it since it takes absolutely forever!

  • My sister used these SAT practice CDs. This was 7 years ago. Can I still use them to practice?

My SATs are coming up soonish. I would like to start going over the possible info and practicing. My sister used these practice SAT and PSAT CDs to practice before she took the test, but she graduated high school in 2003. Will these still apply to me or are they outdated? Can I practice with them?

  • Writer never turns in newspaper assignments on time! What to do?

I am the news editor for my high school newspaper. I assign my writers all the same amount of time to finish each of their articles before the deadline. One of my writers especially thinks he's the boss of everyone, and he constantly misses the due date.

This type of thing really bugs me, so I talked to him and told him how it is really important for all the articles to be on time. All he said was that he had been busy and that he'll turn his article in eventually. Well, I just got it--four days late. I really wish I could take him off my staff but he's such a darn good writer (most of the time)!

I've tried talking to him more than once... what more can I do?

  • SOH CAH TOA question?

On my most recent math test, I needed to find the measurements of each of the sides of a right triangle. Once I found the measure of the sides, I was supposed to find the measure of the two remaining angles (besides the 90 degree one). How can I use SOH CAH TOA to find the angles?

What is that word that means "truce" or "you're right" if you're in an argument with someone? It's just one word and I can't think of it! Aaah!

  • My dad gets angry often...how can I stop myself from yelling back?

Sometimes I unintentionally make my dad angry about just the smallest things--things that really don't matter and are totally avoidable.

This has happened several times before and at this point I'll do anything not to get him NOT to start yelling... I've tried to just be quiet and say nothing when I sense he's getting on the verge of anger, but that only makes him more upset, thinking that I don't care about what he says. I try to do what I can not to yell back but sometimes I just can't help it.

Any advice on this? I really don't know what to do anymore... :(

    (I'm 16 btw)

  • List of western hemisphere dictators?

I need to do a report about a dictator in the western hemisphere. I know a few names off the top of my head, but could you give me a list of some rulers in history in the western hemisphere?

  • My friend is always so rude! What to do?

So I just got back from a month-long trip out of the country, and I call one of my best friends (let's name her Jen). Nobody answers, so I figure she'll just call me back later, it's all good. But then Jen texts me later and doesn't say "how was your trip?" or "did you have a good time? it's good that you're back," she said "did you need anything?"

It may seem trivial, but it sounded so rude to me! So, what, she doesn't care that I've been thousands of miles away for a whole month? Maybe she hardly noticed... or at least she made it seem that way!

Ugh. My apologies for the rant. It's just that now I need someone to talk to and she's also my neighbor. I feel a bit hurt.

What should I do? This isn't the first time she's been rude like this.

  • Why does my computer refuse to recognize a USB port?

    Ugh. this is very frustrating.

I've been plugging my new Sharper Image 4GB mp3 player into my HP Widows XP computer and even under 'Explore,' it doesn't show that anything is plugged in. It should show up as E:\ or F:\ but it's as if nothing is even plugged in!

I'm not sure what else to do. I've turned the mp3 player on and off and still nothing. I made sure it was plugged in correctly. What to do??

(I have a feeling it's the player, not the computer, that's at fault. My computer is usually pretty slow to recognize things like this, but it's been like half an hour since i plugged it in and it doesn't recognize it)

  • Any nonfiction recommendations for a 16-year-old?

I have to find a nonfiction book for my English class and I'm open to your suggestions!

It would be lovely if the book was less than 450 words long, or at least close to that length.

The following are nonfiction books that I absolutely LOVED reading:

The Diving Bell and The Butterfly

    by Jean-Dominique Bauby

    Marley and Me

    by John Grogan

    All Creatures Great and Small

    by James Herriot

(please exclude books about Anne Frank or the Holocaust)

  • Friends and High School Newspapers...help?

I've been one of the editors of my high school newspaper this past school year and I plan to be one for two more years.

There is this girl who writes for the paper who desperately wants to be an editor next year. She's a great writer, but she really gets on my nerves. I have two choices:

    1. talk to my teacher about making her an editor. She's responsible and all, so she'll most likely get the job. She bugs me so much I may have to throw myself out a window.

    OR

    2. be selfish and don't talk to the teacher about it, hoping she won't get the job. My head will be clear, but she'll be sad.

    What to do??

  • Switching from clarinet to oboe? ?

Are there any oboists out there who can help me?

I've been playing the clarinet for 5 years (since 5th grade) and this year there are an insane amount of other clarinets in my school band. I don't just want to be one of the crowd anymore, so do you recommend me switching to oboe?

please give pros and cons...I've heard that it's quite a hard instrument to learn. would you suggest private lessons? Any other tips would be lovely.

    Thanks, everyone!
