  • Excel Spreadsheet VAT Issue?

I am trying to work out the net cost of several items, after subtracting the VAT value from the total gross cost. I have worked out the VAT using the formula to remove 20%, and have not calculated it manually. Yet when I try to take the total VAT value away from the gross cost, I get a net cost which is out by £0.13 compared with the total I get from calculating it with a calculator. The specific example is this:

My total gross cost is equal to £18,787 according to AutoSum

My total VAT (supposedly 20% off) cost according to Autosum is £3757.43- though a manual calculator comes to £3757.40.

My total net cost= £15,029.70 according to Autosum. If I took away £3757.43, then it should come to £15029.57, should it not?

I have no idea what I've done.

  • Council of Trent: Why was defining the doctrine of the Catholic Church important?

I get that it established, for the first time a clear statement of Catholic belief, and everybody knew what they had to believe after that, but I just don't see why it was effective in preventing the spread of heresy. Many Protestant conversions occurred due to disagreements with Catholic doctrine, so if someone was dismayed with it, then surely re-affirming, not reforming it would make them more likely to cross over to heresy?

  • Reformation in Europe question: Mistake in this textbook?

In the AQA textbook for European History, it says that Charles V attended the Second Diet of Speyer, and cites the 'fact' that the war with The League of Cognac (particularly France) had ended, and the siege at Vienna had been defeated. However, countless other sources say Charles was absent still fighting the League of Cognac, and to me it seems that the Peace of Cambrai only entered negotiation stages three months after the April 25th Protestation at Speyer.

My questions are then basically, was Charles V absent during the Protestation at Speyer? Also why? Was he fighting France/League of Cognac still, and also did the Siege of Vienna occur during the sitting of this Diet? He had to be doing something, otherwise he'd have been in a great position to force the Lutheran princes to accept the Edict, you'd imagine.

  • NS-SEC, what is it and where would this be classed?

I am trying to assess whether or not I am eligible for the Newcastle University PARTNERS scheme. It mentions that those from NS-SEC classifications 1-3 are not eligible. What does that even mean? And is a British Gas electrical engineer, part of these three categories or outside of it?

    Thank you

  • How/ why did Humanists influence Luther to be critical of the Catholic Church in 1517?

So far I've just got that it was because it implanted the idea that the Vulgate was incorrect, and also that only scriptural interpretation of the original texts gave legitimacy to the practices of the Church. Am I even on the right lines lol?

  • Excel Formula Help (Not a clue how to do it)?

I need to set up a formula on excel to make cell D5 ( "net cost") use the value of C5 ("Gross cost") and then divide it by 100 and multiply it by 20. I really have no clue how to set that up on excel. Obviously I could easily work it out in my head, or in a calculator for harder sums, but I'm creating a huge list and that's very time consuming. If anybody could help that'd be great.

    Thank you

  • Why did the English court say that Catherine of Aragon's marriage to Arthur HAD been consummated?

I asked a similar question earlier, but did not phrase this part very well. Non-consummation was grounds for an annulment in the 16th Century. Catherine of Aragon said that she had not consummated her marriage to Prince Arthur. However, Henry and the English court said that she had, why did Henry maintain this stance, when agreeing with her would have probably led to an annulment being granted?

  • Why do I feel cold after waking up from a night of poor sleep?

I have had long term, chronic insomnia for around three years. Every-time I wake up, excluding the few nights that I do manage to sleep, I shiver and I am very, very cold. It does not matter what temperature it is, I'm always cold for a few hours.

I'd imagine it is some problem with the thermoregulatory system, but is it a serious ailment or just a natural reaction to little sleep?

  • Trimethoprim dosage help (important)?

I've been to the doctors today to get treatment for an infection. I was prescribed trimethoprim in tablets containing 200 mg's. the instructions say take two each day. However, the doctor did not say verbally nor are they written anywhere, how many hours apart I should take them. I'm quite worried about taking my second dosage for the day too close or too far away from my first.

Does anybody know how many hours apart I should be taking these two tablets?

  • Will urine and blood tests indicate kidney scarring?

First off to start, I am a 16 year old male who went for a routine hospital checkup for spina bifida, and specifically related to bladder incontinence. I had my blood pressure checked and I had a systolic blood pressure of 170 mg on a few readings. I was therefore taken to paediatric emergency where I was measured over a period of a few hours, and my blood pressure stabilised at 148-150mg. At the time I was awaiting my GCSE results, with a large amount of background stress, evidenced by a breakout of cystic acne which I get on my back when I am anxious or stressed. I am someone who suffers greatly from anxiety, which led the doctors to believe my problem was nothing more than whitecoat hypertension. However, they took blood tests and urine tests and performed an ECG. The blood and urine tests have come back as being normal in terms of BUN, levels of protein and no sign of measurable glucose, a typical finding in someone who has diabetes mellitus. However, the ECG results just about fulfilled voltage criteria for left ventricular hypertrophy, perhaps indicating that blood pressure has been high for a long period of time.

I catheterise and have frequent UTI's, which is leading me, and in some ways (Despite the fact he maintains he think it is anxiety) the doctor, to believe I may have renal hypertension, caused by kidney scarring from untreated UTI(s). However my question is, would this show up on urinalysis and blood tests?

  • Airline travel with a credit card, am I protected for insolvency?

This question is mostly the result of my tenancy to over worry. I have purchased two airlines tickets each worth £854 in total with a credit card. Am I protected under U.K law incase of insolvency? The flight tickets were purchased directly from the airline. They were not bought via any form of ticket brokerage firm.

  • Random blood glucose level 6.2 mmol/L?

I recently had a random blood glucose test during a well man's check which showed a reading of 6.2mmol/L, it was not a fasting test. I cannot recall what I ate before the test, but I know for sure it could not have been more than 3 hours after consuming food high in added sugars, and of course in carbohydrates, though not a full dinner sized meal. The doctor I saw for an unrelated problem signalled this out, but did not schedule an appointment for a fasting blood glucose test, or any other sort of further diagnostic testing. My questions are basically, am I expected to schedule further testing on my own accord, or should the doctor have prompted another appointment? And also, how likely (I know this is a difficult question) do you think it is that on a fasting glucose test, I would receive a reading in the normal range?

Another important detail is that I have lost around 5% of my body weight since the test results, but also that I have had chronic insomnia for three years, and I am in the overweight range.

  • China based expatriate taxation question (U.K tax law)?

China based expatriate taxation question (U.K tax law)?

In this purely hypothetical situation, a British citizen is an expatriate based in China. The expatriate has lived there for 5 years, or more. The expatriate earns all of their income in the United Kingdom from a business (which has no special tax exemption), and pays a large amount, if not all of his earnings to themselves in the form of dividends. The expatriate visits the U.K on only a few occasions per year, and spends over 360 days annually in China. Put as simply as possible, what is the total rate of tax levied on the individual likely to be? Taking into account the combined rates of tax on the income in both nations. Please assume the individual never enters U.K airspace in those 360 days.

Also please assume the (new) Sino-British taxation treaty between the two respective nations has been fully ratified by both nations at the time of query.

Thank you for your time reading this, I hope I've explained everything that is needed, reducing any possible instances of uncertainty. I am 16 so I don't have a clue about taxation at all, so some important details may have been left out. Your reply shall be greatly appreciated.
