I'm a commercial pilot with about 43 years flying experience. I took early retirement 8 years ago as a B767 captain from a major international airline - pay and benefits were good but I couldn't stand the union. Now I just fly helicopters because its a heck of a lot more fun! 25,000 hrs F/W & 8,000 hrs R/W if you are asking! I'm rated on various Bell, Agusta, MBB, Eurocopter, Hughes, Robinson, Enstrom, Hiller, and Sikorsky helicopters, as well as several multi-engine jets including CRJ, Lear 35, B737, and B767. I have JAR, Canadian, and US licences (as well as a few others) and have worked all over Europe, the US and Canada - but also Antarctica, South America and Africa. I now live near Vancouver, Canada, and I work part-time as a corporate Challenger pilot and a helicopter check pilot.

  • KLR 650 carburetor problems?

I've got a 2003 Kawasaki KLR 650 which has been sitting in storage for three years. I've refilled the tank with fresh gas, put in a new battery, and got it started. However, I've got some problems...

    1. Once the engine is warm, it only wants to start with the choke off (open) and throttle wide open, and then it exhausts black smoke for a few seconds.

    2. Fuel leaks out of the carb overflow tube (a clear tube coming from the upper part of the carb L side).

    3. It won't idle very well.

I expect that I have a stuck float in the carburetor. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

  • Disconnecting EGR on 2012 Dodge Cummins?

I have a new 2012 Dodge Ram with the Cummins diesel engine and 6 speed manual. I have been told that I will get better fuel economy and lower EGT if I unplug the wire to the EGR. Does anybody have any experience with this? How do I do it? Are there any risks?

    All comments appreciated!

  • Anybody know of a good source for helicopter clip art?

I need some free or cheap clip art of Bell 206 (Jet Ranger) and Eurocopter AS350 (Astar) helicopters. Most of the stuff I've found on the internet is rather cartoonish. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  • Where do I find a switched hot wire on a 2008 Dodge Ram?

I've got a 2008 Dodge Ram 4x4 pickup, and I'd like to hard wire an after-market GPS system, so that the GPS comes on with the ignition, and it shuts off when I shut off the engine, the same as the radio or windshield wipers for example.

I have two cigarette lighter plugs, the left one does exactly what I need (the right one is always hot) but I can't figure out how to get at the wire and I can't find any other wires that are switched with the ignition.

Does anybody know how to find a wire under the instrument panel that is hot only when the key is turned on, or alternatively how to remove the instrument panel so that I can splice into the left cigarette lighter plug?

  • Are a dog and a wolf the same species?

I'm wondering if a dog and a wolf are the same species. Could they mate and produce fertile pups? What about coyotes, dingoes, and hyenas?
