Why is ≈ not a valid character entity for XHTML 1.1?
On a lark, I decided to put this one webpage I haven't yet published through the W3 validator. I closed one tag I had inadvertently left open and went from 380 errors to just two, one of them being ≈ is supposedly an undefined character entity. I've tried the webpage on a few different Web browsers and they all show the symbol correctly. What's going on here?
1 AnswerProgramming & Design5 years agoIf Jeb Bush killed baby Hitler, what direct consequences would there be for his family?
Does your answer change depending on whether you believe that only a single timeline exists or that all possible timelines exist in parallel, even if there is no direct way to jump between parallel timelines?
History5 years agoIs it much easier to get promoted in the Army than in the Marine Corps?
Like if you're in captivity and you get freed under questionable circumstances?
A friend of a Facebook friend shared the following status from a Marine vet:
"If Bergdahl was a Marine, then
a) he'd be a Lance Corporal and the Marine brass would be in no hurry at all to promote him to Corporal
b) actually, he would've escaped or died trying,
c) actually, this whole thing wouldn't have happened in the first place."

1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment7 years agoIs my computer actually infected with the ICSPA virus?
Sometimes when I look at porn in Firefox, the ICSPA screen comes up and I can't close it except by quitting Firefox from the Task Manager and then restarting Firefox a couple of times until it comes to the screen where it asks if I want to recover the previous session, so then I say no.
I haven't noticed any of my files being encrypted like the Firefox screen claims.
3 AnswersSecurity7 years agoCan someone explain NYPD ranks to me?
Like on Law & Order: SVU, Olivia Benson has worked at Special Victims for 15 years and she's just now making sergeant? Wouldn't she have been a lieutenant all this time? Or on Person of Interest, Carter was busted down from Detective to Officer? It's fictional, but I expect some semblance of realism.
4 AnswersMilitary7 years agoAre all veterans covered under Obamacare?
For example, my cousin Jim. We suspected he's gay since he was a kid. He says he wasn't discharged for being gay, but he only served two years. Now he works at a design firm and has decent health care through that employer. If he didn't have that, would he be covered through the VA?

Did they sing them like once and then never again? What happened to the manuscripts? Are there any recordings with which I could compare what Anfossi wrote to Mozart's insertions?

2 AnswersWikipedia9 years agoWhat is a context in which 3 is tacitly understood without needing to be written?
As an exponent in a prime factorization, 1 is generally not written.
For a square root, the 2 is not written in the radical (except of course for sqrt(2)).
Is there something similar with 3?
