Are all veterans covered under Obamacare?

For example, my cousin Jim. We suspected he's gay since he was a kid. He says he wasn't discharged for being gay, but he only served two years. Now he works at a design firm and has decent health care through that employer. If he didn't have that, would he be covered through the VA?

If he was honorably discharged then he is covered under the VA.

VA benefits have nothing to do with the AHA.

Your cousin's orientation may have nothing to do with his term of enlistment - we hd 2-year enlistments not too long ago.

EDIT: I clearly failed to read your question correctly. If a Veteran is under the regular care of the VA, then that has nothing to do with the AHA. If a Veteran is not under the regular care of the VA and needs medical care insurance, then he needs to do whatever the AHA requires or already have insurance through an employer.

Despite your lead question, the scenario you mention has nothing to do with the AHA. If your cousin did not have a program through his employer, then he may or may not be eligible for care from the VA - there are too many variable that you do not mention and we do not know to give you a definitive answer.

Again- the AHA and VA medical care have nothing to do with each other.

He is eligible to use the VA medical system if he has an appropriate discharge. Many people don't know this but the VA actually takes private healthcare insurance.I know there are situations where they take that and then cover the balance.

Of course using the system has long wait times or limited procedures available in your area sometimes. Also they used to do operations at the one near me - but after taking the wrong leg off etc. - they only do small procedures. As with ANY healthcare do your research! Consumer beware. But they do have clinics and hospitals in EVERY state which is a nice thing!

Obama care should really be called something like ObamaExchange because that is what it is.
