  • Does anyone have experience with thyroid medication to help their dog who has an under-active thyroid?

My 12 year old female Sheltie was diagnosed through a blood test to have under-active thyroid. Blood work determined Logan's thyroid number to be 0.5. Normal range is 1.1 to 4.0. She will start the med when it arrives in the mail. I forgot to ask what the med's name is. Anyway......for those of you who have experience with thyroid med in a dog what improvements did you notice in your dog, and how fast did you notice improvements?

Symptoms Logan has been experiencing are weight gain, lethargic, deafness, confusion, sleeping so soundly that it is difficult to awaken her, lack of physical activity she used to enjoy, short-tempered, and perhaps chronic infections of the bowel. She is being treated for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and takes an antibiotic daily for this condition since late fall. The vet did not mention IBS as a symptom of thyroid problems. I read about it on-line.

Any advice or positive comments will be greatly appreciated.

  • Isn't this LSU vs. Auburn game about the best game you've ever seen?

I love football ...all football---pro, college, high school, pee wee,..... Being from Pittsburgh, I've never paid much attention to either team, but have never disliked either team. This is the greatest game I've ever seen. BRAVO to both teams for playing the game like it's supposed to be played. They are playing with all their heart and soul and everything they have. Do you agree?

  • Why can't I register my child's Webkinz?

I go to their website, click on "New Member," listen to the bird tell me she can register me now, but I can't scroll down to click the enter button to register as a new user. Why? I have tried this in Dec. and tried it just now. It is so FRUSTRATING! I read different problem-solving answers both on the general web and through webkinz, and I can't get in to register. Please help me. Daughter has 2 webkinz, and they are worthless other than being another stuffed animal on her bed.

  • Who does Rachel from Big Brother physically (in face, hair, and body build) remind you of?

This woman was on a different reality program in the not so far past. The first person who guesses her name, her occupation, and what show she was a contestant on gets the 10 npoints.

Have fun figuring this one out.

  • Umpire? Is this a conflict of interest? Or is it against the rule book?

My son had his first play-off game for senior Little League. The other team had the home field advantage because their record was better than ours. The home team for regular games is responsible for getting the umpires. However, tonight's game was the first round in the play-offs as I already stated. The home plate umpire's son was the pitcher for the first 6 innings of the 7 inning game and the third baseman for the final inning. Is that a conflict of interest? I have no access to a rule book, but the one assistant coach is looking it up in his rule book and possibly contacting the president of the league if necessary. We lost 3-1 and are eliminated due to the loss. There were several questionable calls that may have made a difference. I am no expert about the rules, but even I sensed something funny/fishy about the whole thing. I can understand the man umpiring in a regular season game, which he did, but in a play-off? If the rules differ for Senior Little League from state to state, we are in Pennsylvania.

    Thanks for any well-versed explanations.

    What do you think?

  • Does anyone else's dog take Fluoxetine?

My Sheltie has been taking this for two years. It was more the vet's idea that she take it than mine. I mentioned to him that she tried to bite my father-in-law when we weren't home. He was the one who came to let her outside since we were away all day. After that Ainslie was terrrified of any man who came to the house. She soon became terrified of car doors slamming , leaves rustling from the wind, etc...Vet told me the med would help her in 4 months and then I could hopefully ween her off. Never happened. I thought at first the med helped her, and I suppose it does to some extent. She is better about men coming to the house.

Now that Spring is here, I started walking her. That seemed like torture to her. She would hear a car door slam 6 houses away and start pulling so hard on the leash that I had trouble controling her. I could see the walks were not a good experience for her.

Last Mon. I took her to the vet for her yearly check up and mentioned to him all this. He uped her Fluoxetin to 20 mg. I gave her that and on the fifth day I noticed a real change in her. And, I didn't like what I saw. My daughter and I took her for a walk. We came upon a lady with her Sheltie/Beagle mix. Ainslie likes the lady and her dog, but sat when she saw them and started shaking. (Ainslie likes all dogs no matter the size.) Later in the day in the house I couldn't find her. She was sitting in a corner in the kitchen all alone just staring. Generally she is in the living room with us wanting my husband or me or one of the kids to hold and pamper her. The only way I could get her to come into the living room with me was to carry her. I did and held her. She felt limp to me. I was worried about her so I slept (barely) in the recliner holding her all night. She is fine today---normal energy and not sitting in the kitchen staring off from a corner. I gave her only 10 mg of the med this morning. Daughter and I took her for a walk today putting her between the two of us. She was ok but not great.

I will call the vet tomorrow with this information. But, what I want to know is have any of you experienced this type of behavior? My husband thinks poor breeding has caused her anxiety. She has the same grandfather on both sides. Her brother from the littler before hers (same parents) lives in our town. He loves people but hates other dogs. He wants to seriously attack any dog he sees.

We LOVE our Ainslie. She has never tried to hurt us or even shown her teeth. She is afraid of the telephone ringing when I am the only one home. She hates the baseboard heat in the living room but nowhere else in the house. She only likes people who come to our house on her terms. If she isn't sure about a person in the house, she'll hide out in her crate until she figures they are a friend. She hates it when the older Sheltie tries to get in the door before her. She was afraid of cement sidewalks and driveways for many months when she was a puppy.

She is a tremendous athlete who stares a ball down intensely before it is thrown. She can jump four feet high from a sit poisition. She loves to play catch out in the yard with the older Sheltie.

She is tremendously loving to my husband and children, my mom, and other friends of mine who are women. She thinks my son's teenage friends are super and adores kids close to my daughter's age (10 yrs.) She thinks I am her MOTHER!!!!!

Have any of you experienced these behaviors? Do any of your dogs take this med?

Ainslie is now 3 yrs. old.

She is a special dog, and we LOVE her very much!

  • What is the most successful way to remove mustard from a white sweater?

  • Where is the best place to get a school-aged girl's ears pierced?

My daughter had her ears pierced last year. She was very good about caring for them, etc... When the time was up that we were able to change the earrings for the first time, I tried to take the piercing stud out, and the entire earring came through her ear. That freaked her out. She wanted nothing to do with the earrings. We let the holes grow in. Her aunt did not know that her ears grew in and bought her a pair of lovely, expensive earrings for Easter. We are entertaining the idea of re-piercing. The first time we went to a nation-wide costume jewelry chain store. The girl who pierced her ears told us she had only pierced one other person's ears. Where should we go to have her ears pierced? I really feel the piercing wasn't done properly and that is why the earring came out the way it did.

  • If I wash clothing with paintball on them in my washing machine, will it ruin my washing machine?

Sweatshirt and jeans have paintball on them. I used a stiff brush and removed most of the paint. These clothes are old so I am not worried about what they look like. My concern is if I wash them in my washing machine, will the residue from the paint ruin my machine or any articles of clothing washed in the next few loads.
