Please don't take anything I say seriously, except when I'm being serious.

  • Increasing climate variability and frequency of extreme events?

I am currently reading a paper on the effects of global warming on the praries of Alberta, and it mentions "increases in climate variability and frequency of extreme events". This paper doesn't go into why this happens, but rather the effects that this will have if it does happen. Anyway, I have heard about this before but never seen any of the evidence for why people seem to think this will happen. If anyone could exlplain, and show evidence for why these things may occur that would be great, because sometimes it seems really contradictory. For example, another part of this paper says, "Projections of future climate include more frequent drought, but also increased precipitation in the form of rain and higher probability of severe flooding". That just seems very odd to me.

  • Does the FSM...?

Want us to eat spaghetti, or not? My first thought was that he would want his followers to eat spaghetti, but then I thought since spaghetti was created in his image, it might be like eating his chosen people. I wouldn't want to do that.

  • Has this ever actually been a serious question?

I have seen the question, "If evolution is true, why are there still apes?", way to many times for it to be a joke. I'm starting to think there are actually people who think this is a clever arguement against evolution. Please tell me I'm wrong, and every time I have seen this it has been an atheist trying to make creationists look bad. Please?

  • Is it actually possible to "melt" in acid?

How dangerous can acid actually get? Because in a chemistry lab one time I got a drop of really concentrated acid on my hand and didn't feel a thing.

  • Questions for those who believe in hell?

My understanding is that if you even commit one sin and never atone for it you go to hell when you die. And then spend the rest of eternity suffering immeasurably. First, how accurate am I in this? Second, is it God that sends/ allows people to hell, or Satan? And finally, assuming my perception is correct, and that it is God that sends people to hell, do you feel that this is just and reasonable? It seems like that is overkill even for the more serious sins. I am an atheist, but I'm only trying to learn something here, not necessarily make any point.

  • What is the state of racism in the United States?

I've been seeing a few topics about racism with regards to Obama and such, so I got interested. What kind of racism do people currently generally have to deal with in the USA. I know what kind of racism I usually see in Canada. It is usually a sort of awkward, unintentional rasicm, where people aren't really sure how they should treat people of different races. Sort of overcompensating to specifically avoid being racist. There is some of the more serious stuff to, but not that much. But I don't really think that if a black man were running for prime minister, it would be as noteworthy as it seems to be in the states, even though we haven't really had many non-white leaders either. I'm just curious to see how people feel about this.

  • Does anyone know why my internet might get faster when I turn on the phone?

I use Telus high speed internet, and I generally find it to be fairly slow. What is strange though, is that whenever I turn on the phone, the speed of my connection gets significantly higher. The phone is a Uniden which has has one phone that plugs into the wall and sends signals to two other mobile satelite phones. I suspect the phones may be the problem but I really have no idea. Thanks to anyone who may know something about this; it seems like I'm the only person who has ever had this problem.
