  • What kind of bicycle should I buy?

To cut gas consumption, I want a road bike for around-town errands and small shopping trips. I'm a tall, somewhat heavy, female, and not especially coordinated, but I have ridden bikes off and on since childhood. Our small town has no bicycle lanes or paths, and the nearest bicycle shop is an hour's drive away. I've check the Cycling section of Y!A, but their answers seem geared toward younger, more fit, more knowledgeable cyclers. I guess I just need a kinder, gentler answer that provides the information that I need -- in English, not in "Cyclese." Any suggestions?

  • The best cell phones for elderly / visually impaired / hearing impaired?

My friend is 93 and has some visual impairment (macular degeneration) and hearing impairment. He needs a cell phone with few bells and whistles that is easy to see and easy to use. All he needs is to be able to make and receive calls, an address book, and voice mail. Naturally, cost of the phone, accessories, and service are considerations. He also needs good coverage, whether in our small town or in the outlying areas. What good and / or bad experiences have you had with providing such a need?

  • What is the etymology of the word "hypocrite?"?

I see in this the prefix "hypo," meaning under, beneath, less than, denoting a lack or deficiency; but I want to understand the full meaning of the word. The King James Version of the Bible translates a couple of words (one Hebrew, one Greek) as "hypocrite." My Hebrew / Chaldee lexicon shows the meaning as soiled (with sin), impious. According to my Greek lexicon, it means pretender or actor (under an assumed character). Please explain the basis of the meaning of this word, if you would. Thanks!

What is the pay? Are they self-employed? If not, who employs them? Are jobs more plentiful in large cities, or are they available in small town or rural areas? If I become a certified mediator, can I also market my services as conflict resolution and / or arbitration?

A certification course is available to me. What is the pay for professional certified mediators? Are they self-employed or, if not, who employs them?
