Songs to learn sight reading for guitar?
So I've been playing guitar for about 3 years but I've just now started learnig to read standard music notation. What are some songs that I can learn from sheet music and possibly sight read. I'm mostly into rock and metal, but I'd really like to use the opportunity to get more into classical or like Spanish/flamenco music. or anything really. all ideas are appreciated. thanks.
2 AnswersOther - Music9 years agoLetters of recommendation?
So I'm applying to college and thinking about getting letters of recommendation. The problem is that I tend to be the quiet kid in class and I'd be awkward asking most of my teachers. That and I don't really have any extracurriculars, as some teachers will ask for a list of them. Should I pick a teacher and get one anyway, even though it might not be the best representation of me because I'm quiet and introverted, or should I just go without the letter and write a really well-thought out personal statement about my unique personality and ability to think outside the box and things like that? How much do you think it'd hurt me to not have a letter? And how much for not really have any extracurriculars? I'm applying to Pitt and Penn State as my first two choice btw. Thanks! I know that sort of turned into a rant...
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)10 years agoDo I need to send my score/transcript/apply to all smaller campuses or the just the main campus for Penn state?
I'm planning on applying to penn state university park, and the university of pittsburgh main campus. As of right now I'm only sending my sat scores and transcript. If I don't get into either of the main campuses however, I'd like to go to one of their other campuses, like Pitt Johnstown or Penn state York. Do I have to send my applications to those specific campuses? Or can I just send them to the main campuses and be automatically referred to the others?
Also, I know Pitt has a rolling deadline for admissions, but in your educated opinion, when would be the ideal time to send applications? Thanks.
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)10 years agoWhere to get started listening to classical music?
id really like to start getting into classical music, but i have no idea where to start. I generally listen to album oriented rock music, and it doesnt help that classical music isnt organized like that at all. I know theres compilations and things, but theres just so much out there that it's overwhelming. Where would you recommend starting (composers, songs, etc), and how would you recommend getting the music? thanks.

she's going through alot right now in life
she's 17...she has a baby daughter that she's raising alone among other things...I don't feel right telling the world about other peoples personal ****...but that's the main problem
she's going through pretty bad depression
she has tried to suicide
I want to everything I can to help her and be there for her
i have told her that I love her...and Im here for her
and I do everytime I get the chance
the worst part seems like her family is hardly willing to be patient and listen to her
I am though
any suggestions on how to make her feel better would be appreciated

and please no comments about me needing a life and being a loser...I know that already :)

2 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoGood unknown guitar brands/models?
I'm on the market for a new guitar and I'm just hoping to get some ideas for good stuff that isn't too well known. Too many people think Gibson or Fender make the "ultimate" guitars. Don't get me wrong, they make great stuff, but it's overpriced and theres other great stuff out there. I'm just looking for stuff worth checking out that I probably haven't heard of before. Thanks.
5 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoGood guitar songs to learn?
I've been playing guitar for about and I'm looking for fun songs to learn. Any genre does, and please nothing too advanced, although I can handle basically anything that doesn't involve sweep picking. Also, please, don't say something like Free Bird or Stairway to Heaven; not that those songs aren't amazing, but I'm looking for more obscure stuff that everybody doesn't already know. Thanks.
1 AnswerOther - Music1 decade agoSong that conveys a specific theme.?
I have to do project for english class where I find a song that conveys one of the following themes and make a multimedia presentation for it. Only problem is, I can't find a song. The choices of themes are:
-People should not allow their amibitions to rob them of simple pleasures in life or to come before relationships with people they love.
-People must stop persecution when it first starts or it will only get worse, and when it spreads, it may be directed at them.
-The pure love of a child can be a person's salvation.
-Wrongdoing carries its own punishment, just as doing right has its own rewards.
-People are not meant to be alone; it's hard to survive, let alone thrive, when we are isolated from our fellow man.
-Love and determination can overcome the most difficult obstacles.
-The best intentions of good, noble men can lead to tragedy.
-Language is a powerful weapon, and in the hands of a skiled person, can be used to manipulate others.
-Violence and bloodshed can never have morally good results.
I'm thinking maybe "Hero of War" by Rise Against for "violence and bloodshed can never have morally good results"....but idk.
Thanks.
2 AnswersOther - Music1 decade agoLow budget, but good sounding guitars and amps?
So I've been playing the guitar for about a year. I have a Fender Squier Strat and a 25W Spider Line 6 amp, and to be blunt, they sound like crap. I'm finally starting to get pretty good, but no matter what I play, it sounds muddy, grainy, cheap, or just plain crappy... I bought a BOSS DS-1 pedal to try and mask the sound up, but that only works partly.
Anyway, I'm looking for a better guitar and amp, preferably under $300 (each). I've checked out Epiphones (SGs and Les Pauls specifically), but I've heard that they lose connection within a year or two, so I don't know.
Also, if anyone has any ides to make my current gear some better, or even suggestions for songs
I can play, please speak up.
BTW, I play mostly bluesy hard rock/metal (GNR, Hendrix, Older Metallica, AC/DC, Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Clapton, Zeppelin etc.), simply that's my favorite type of music to play on the guitar, but I listen to and play lots from basically every rock genre (Punk, Grunge, Post-Grunge, Metal, Metalcore, Alternative, Classic Rock, whatever...)
Thanks.
