According to this , the Allies fooled the Germans with playback of the sound of troop movements into thinking that it was live, now according to audiophiles who criticized me yesterday ,this would be impossible because when the troop movements are live you can turn your head and hear the echoes from different places and you would need surround sound to even come close to fooling the Germans. You can always tell if it is live or not because the more electronics involved in the playback process the more signal degradation there is,so no way those Germans could have been fooled,just like no way I or anyone else has walked around at night and there was a club around the corner with loud music that sounded like a house band and crowd noise and I or they was certain that it was live,only to see on rounding the corner that it was a playback, come on guys really . Just a bunch of corporations with products trying to get you to consume and you are buying their bull.

digital and analog ,doesn't analog have fidelity to the point you can't tell the difference between live and playback?

exactly like live, as digital does NOT ,because analog captures all the sound wave ,and digital takes snapshots ,analog is warm digi ain't,with Dolby noise reduction and other noise cancellation devices you CANNOT tell the difference between when it is done live and playback,if post production is added that still does not change the original sound it is only on top of it,,analog produces the dynamic range as it is meant to be. Digital takes it beyond the range of human hearing ,a recording is literally a sound you can hear more than once source Merriam Webster

it is played back ,why do some people say that sound quality wise there is a difference between the two when actually there isn't,if in analog recording formats the sound waves are fully represented on the medium (unlike digital where it is snapshots) then in essence it is the exact same sound so there is no difference between when it was "live" and played back,yet some engineers say well this tape recorder is better or this mike is better,truth be told it is all the same sound and there is no audible difference. Add a soundboard to it with eq the eq plus original sound still sounds the same "live" coming out of the headphones as played back, if you could put a concert hall with an audience in a studio then the sound would still be the same "live" as playback ,if you could have studio acoustics in a concert hall and had the audience be totally quiet for the "live" and then you played back no difference ,sound is sound,there is no difference between live and playback in the analog world if the equipment is maintained properly a recording is still a recording when it is "live" so why do people differentiate between live and recording ,if something is live it can still be a recording if a recorder is recording the music in a concert hall then it is both "live" and recording at the same time likewise a studio,if you have overdubs then the magic of the technology is that that original sound on say track one of multitrack is "live" again as is the overdub on track two ..
