  • Piezoelectric microphone to turn sound into electricity?

    Hey guys :)

I have a science fair project and we need a piezoelectric microphone to turn sound into electricity. My question is, does a piezoelectric microphone produce a voltage when it receives sound? Is the voltage measurable at all?

If it doesn't, then would a piezoelectric transducer work?

    Help is appreciated :)

  • Turn off sweeping in oscilloscope?

    OK so the question is:

An oscilloscope is connected to a sinusoidal AC voltage. [the rest is unnecessary]

The line on the oscilloscope starts moving up and down.

Then they ask, "What happens to the luminous line if the sweeping action is turned off?"

I need an answer now please, because I have an exam tomorrow :)

I created this question so don't try to Google it! :P

  • How to encode video files into .mp4 on Mac?

My Mac will be arriving in a few days and I have an iPod Touch that can only play mp4 videos. On Windows, I can use MediaCoder iPhone edition to encode video files, but I don't know what to use on a Mac. Don't tell me to encode the files through BootCamp, because if I do, I cannot move the files to the Mac hard disk, where I will be keeping my media. In other words, I don't want to encode videos on Windows. Does anyone know a program that can encode videos into mp4 (for my iPod touch) on a Mac?

  • Macbook Pro or normal Macbook or VAIO FW series?

    Here are the specs:

    MACBOOK PRO:

CPU: 2.4 GHz Core2 Duo (all new generation)

    RAM: 4 GB 1066 MHz DDR3

Graphics chip: nVidia 9600 GT for performance + 9400 for battery life

Hard disk: 320 GB 7200 RPM

    OS: Mac OS X Leopard

    Screen Size: 15"

    MACBOOK (regular):

    CPU: 2.4 GHz Core2 Duo

    RAM: 4 GB 1066 MHz DDR3

    Graphics chip: nVdia 9400 GT

Hard disk: 320 GB 5400 RPM

    OS: Mac OS X

    Screen Size: 13"

    VAIO FW:

    CPU: 2.53 GHz Core2 Duo

    RAM: 6 GB 800 MHz DDR2

    Graphics Chip: Radeon HD 3650

Hard disk: 320 GB 7200 RPM

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

    Screen Size: 16.4"

Bare in mind that the FW comes at $1700

    the Macbook at $1800

    the Macbook Pro at $2270

The Macbook Pro also has the best quality screen, since it is LED backlit. The normal Macbook's screen isn't that good.

The both Macbooks' quality is much better than the flimsy feeling FW.

  • Which laptop do you think I should choose?

I am looking for laptops, and have considered the MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz, 4 GB 1066 RAM, nVidia 9600 GT 256 MB. It seems overpriced, but I acknowledge that Mac has some tricks up its sleave and won't disappoint. I also stumbled upon the new VAIO FW 2.53 GHz CPU, 6 GB 800 MHz (though I could customize it to 4 GB), and an ATI Radeon HD 3650 512 MB, with a Blu-ray burner. The MacBook has a slower CPU speed, but a faster RAM speed and a more capable operating system. It's quality is top-notch. On the other hand, the VAIO has a faster CPU and more RAM, a different Graphics card, and a Blu-ray burner.

What I want to know is:

    - Is the VAIO's CPU speed advantage substantial? Noticeable much?

    - Which laptop has a better GPU? (9600 GT or HD 3650)

    - Which RAM configuration is better: 4 GB 1066 MHz, or 6 MHz 800 MHz?

    - Should the build quality of the MacBook (better screen, more attractive chassis, solid build) influence my decision at all?

    - Is the Mac OS X worth it?

    Thanks :)

  • My Xbox 360 burned out; should I buy another one or a PS3?

My 360 got rrod last weak and I don't know what to buy. Here's a couple of things I need to know:

Will Killzone 2 be awesome gameplay wise?

Which console is more powerful (I already know and slightly comprehend the dirty little tech details, but I still don't know what to expect from either console... Please, people who are not well informed do not answer with: PS3 had 2 teraflops, Cell has 8 cores... bull****

    Does PS3 have Halo-rivaling shooters?

Does PS3 have enough adventure games (like Kameo: Elements of Power)

Is Playstation 3 the new Xbox 1?

Is Playstation Home shaping up nicely?

    Things that worry me:

    Not having Halo.

    Not have new xbox experience

having to pay an exorbitant price for games (they cost around $80 in my country)

Having to pay $600 for my console

    That's it...

    Answers really seriously appreciated!

  • Which is the brighter HDTV?

I am currently in the market for an HDTV, and I am torn between the Panasonic 800u and the Pioneer Kuro 5020FD.

When I went to the TV shop, I saw that the 720p Panasonics are pretty bright. Are the 1080p Panasonics like that? If so, do the Kuro's match their brightness?

  • Help needed?

I am 12 years old, and responsible for the decision of what HDTV we would buy. My dad is busy working, while my mom is working on our new apartment. Yesterday i posted a question on the forums to ask about the TV, (costs $4000), and they all started commenting on that i am twelve years old and I wouldn't have a chance to buy the TV. (i had to tell them that i am 12 to describe my situation). Anyways, they are all commenting and NOT answering the question, and not taking me seriously. I had to give them a rude comment to have them answer my question, but now they are commenting on my rudeness, and my question was left unanswered. Now I have to create a new profile so that they would take me seriously. Any other solutions to getting my question answered, and to have them take me seriously?this is the link http://www.avsforum.com/avs-v/showthread.php?t=103...

  • Are Bottom Freezer Amana Fridges Any Good?

I have recently started searching for a new refrigerator for my new kitchen, and I stumbled upon the Amana bottom mount fridge. It had the most beautiful exterior and the most spacious interior. Price is not a problem. I just wanted to check if Amana fridges are of good quality since they were bought by Maytag. Amana's history suggests that it is a rather trusted brand. I need a fridge that will last long.
