  • What do triple wall chimney pipes do that double or single wall chimneys don't?

I have been told that triple wall chimneys are used to combust outside air in the fireplace but I'm wondering if it's just for insulation because the one I just bought has a triple wall pipe but it also has a port on the side for outside air and I thought that's the purpose the triple wall pipe was serving.

  • What is the Earth's angular acceleration?

There's no such thing as perpetual motion and planets surely are not an exception to this so the Earth must have a negative angular acceleration but what is it? And a follow up question, what is the minimum angular velocity the Earth needs to continue supporting life?

  • Is it a fashion faux pas to wear grey slacks to a black tie event?

I'll be wearing black shoes+socks, a black jacket and a skinny black tie with a white shirt as well.

  • What do they learn every two years that allows them to keep doubling the processing power of computers?

I know that they keep using smaller and smaller nanometer manufacturing processes to put more and more transistors (I guess) on the chips but what is it they keep discovering that allows them to keep making it smaller and more powerful that they didn't know before? I sometimes wonder if they could have been making processors as fast as they are now for years.

  • What kind of spiders are in my garage?

There seems to be a colony of 20 or 30 of them working together on a very disorganized web that's a several cubic feet large. The spiders themselves are tiny. No more than a millimeter or two including their leg span. They're an off-white color and possibly translucent. I've never seen spiders like these before. I'm not too worried about them because I'm pretty sure the only dangerous spiders in the south eastern US are the black widow and the brown recluse and these are quite clearly neither. I thought at first they were baby spiders but I don't think baby spiders spin webs let alone work together. Any ideas?

  • Why can't Windows 7 be installed as the primary OS on a Mac?

Windows 7 supports EFI so it seems like this should be possible but I have it in my head that it's not for some reason. Before anyone answers my question by saying that it can be done through Boot Camp or Parallels or something, I'm talking about installing Windows without having OS X on the machine at all.

  • Will life insurance exams test for marijuana?

I'm about to get life insurance and they want to do blood work and urinalysis. I'm an occasional pot smoker and I'm not sure if I should be concerned about that or not. I know there aren't any legal repercussions but my wife thinks they could deny me coverage and put me on some kind of list so I can't ever get life insurance. This doesn't seem likely to me but I really don't know. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
