  • Glass vs. surgical steel nose screw?

I recently had my other nostril pierced, so they're both done. I'm trying to decide whether to get traditional surgical steel nose screws with cute sparkly gems (which I've usually worn in my one nostril) or switch to glass nose screws. Has anyone worn both that has a preference? The glass is almost twice as expensive, but I also need a short length - 5mm - so I don't have alot of options, there's only a couple of places I can find 5mm surgical steel online.

  • Installing new phone line from NID?

I am trying to install a new phone line in my home. The telco came out and 'activated' an old second line that wasn't in use. My NID has two modules in it: one for my existing phone line and one for the new second phone line.

I ran new line for my existing phone, so I'm not a total noob a this. The existing phone line was hooked up to blue/white with blue on the green and red screws in the NID, so I wired my jack with blue/white with blue. The module for the second phone line is hooked up with the orange/white with orange wires to the green and red screws... my phone line doesn't HAVE orange wires! Just blue, white with blue, green, red, yellow, black.

I am getting a dial tone at the NID, but not on the interior jack. Our new jack has red, green, yellow, black, blue, and white/blue wiring on it, and ive hooked all of these up at once, then hooked up each pair to the green and red screws in the NID that the orange/white-orange wires are hooked up to. No dial tone. No nothing!

I laid nice, fresh, new phone wire for this, new jack too. Do I need to buy phone wire with the orange/white-orange pairing for this to work?

  • Help with info/value of Metallica 'The Apocalypse' 3 cd set?

I have a copy of Metallica's 'The Apocalypse', it's a three cd set and is numbered 597 of 1000. It is three cds of old demos and stuff from 1982-1994. There is no barcode, no copyright, no nothing on the case or the cds. I have seen Metallica's Apocalypse Now 4cd set, but am having alot of trouble locating info on this one.

All I've been able to find is that either Planet Records or Trichant Records put this out (unverified- found info on personal fan website), but like I said, there are no identifying marks on the case or cds, aside from the 597/1000.

I'm going to be selling it, but have no idea what the value may be. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Attic too hot for some storage?

I live in Central Florida, and while I've never been in my attic, I know it gets REALLY hot. I think we have some kind of vetilation - there are two long, black vent-like looking things on my roof, near the very top.

My question is what can I safely store there? I have numerous totes (like the Rubbermaid ones) and boxes filled with stuff we can't get rid of but do not need to access more than a couple of times a year. I would never even dream of putting a cardboard box up there, but are the totes alright to be stored in the attic?

And what about what I put in the totes? We have clothes, material, paperwork, dishes, pots and pans, china/Lenox knick knacks, and holiday decorations (mostly glass, plastic, electric). I know that CDs, DVDs, and photos shouldn't go up there - that must be too hot for them. But what about everything else? Is the temperature up there enough to do damage to plastic?

  • Partition CPU for Vista and XP??

I have a Dell Inspiron 531 with 2GB, capacity of 4GB, running Vista Home Premium. I have an old, old Dell Dimension with 1GB running XP. I need to have XP for work.

Can I partition my Inspiron, so that one side can be booted up as Vista and the other side as XP? So I could run both from the same CPU? And how does that work? Would I have an option when I turn on the computer to boot to Vista or XP? And how do I do it? And, later, can I undo it?

I was planning on pulling the 1GB out of the Dimension and making my Inspiron 3GB, giving 2GB to the Vista side and 1GB to the XP side. Any info, ideas, or assistance would be hugely appreciated!

  • Adding RAM to a Dell Dimension 2350?

I have a Dell Dimension 2350, about five years old, that I'm using for a business computer. I *thought* I had bought it with 512mb RAM, but it's stating there's only 256. So, I guess I'm either remembering wrong or some of it is damaged or something.

So I found this Kingston 512MB DDR SDRAM and it appears to be compatible with my Dell. So I have two questions about this:

1)Is it really as easy as it seems to install RAM?

2)Should I just get one stick and add to what I have, or buy two sticks and replace all my RAM so it's bumped up to a gig?

The stick is $30. I plan on using this computer for work for at least the next year.

  • I need to have two computers hooked up to one cable modem?

I am starting a new job from home and I am planning on using one computer for work, one for personal. My 'old' computer meets all the requirements for this position. I need to have both pc's hooked up to my cable modem, but the job says that I cannot use 2-Wire Modem, or a USB connected Modems, and it also states that wireless modems or routers are not supported or recommended.

Is there a way I can hook both my computers to the same cable modem? There is only one ethernet port on the back of the modem, and I know I can't use the USB port. Is there a non-wireless way to hook both computers up? I have set up a wireless home network before, but I guess I need a WIRED home network and I'm lost!

  • Is this enough to run Vista Basic well?

I am not terribly computer literate. I'm purchasing a new pc and am cheap enough to question spending the extra money for 2GB. I'm looking at a machine with an AMD Athlon 64x Dual-Core 4000, 1GB memory, and a 160GB hard drive (although I can up it to 250 with a very minimal cost).

Is all this enough to run Vista Basic smoothly? I am not into pc games or heavy editing; I do basic digital photo stuff on my computer and like to listen to music. Other than that, it's really just surfing the web.

Also, if I were to spend the extra $100 for the 2GB, would it be a better investment in the long run? I have a 512MB with a Celeron processor now, it is slow as anything but I'm still barely using 55% of it's memory with my files and running XP. All thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks much :)

  • Treating cat infected with herpes with l-lysine powder?

I have an almost three year old cat with a recurring eye problem. After much research on my part - both about felines with herpes and finding a competent veterinarian - we are fairly certain my spayed female has herpes. We have decided to try treatment with Vet Viralys l-lysine powder. Unfortunately, my cat is not terribly interested in eating food with the powder mixed in.

Is there another way to deliver the powder? Perhaps suspended in a liquid and delivered orally with a syringe? She is a very picky eater, and we can't get her to eat any human food, and she has turned away from any wet food we mix this powder in to. She also is quite uncooperative with paste-like medicines, so I do not have high hopes for the l-lysine gel, plus since I already bought the powder, I'd like to try to use that.

  • Sudden ammonia smell in cat's urine - cause?

I have two spayed cats, one fifteen month old and one two and a half year old. I have had them both since they were under six months old, and are fully vaccinated indoor cats. They share two litterboxes between them, and have been observed both using the same litterbox. We have never had a problem with urine smell until now. Suddenly about a week ago we started smelling a very strong ammonia smell in our room where the catboxes are. I understand that smell is common with cat urine, but we have never EVER smelled it before. Both boxes are kept reasonable clean (every other day) and we have started cleaning them every day now, but the smell is still there even after changing all the litter instead of just sifting.

There has been no recent change to diet. Both cats are fed Iams Multicat and have been eating it for over three months. They eat Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys 3-4 times a week. Neither cat is showing any other symptoms of illness. Should I be terribly concerned?

  • What hurts more: nipple or lip piercing?

I am about to get my nipples pierced (both at once!) but, as always, might chicken out, so I thought I'd go prepared. I have eight tattoos, on my arms, legs, ankle, lower back, and on the back of my neck - none of those hurt too much. I have my nostril pierced - that didn't hurt either. I had my lip pierced - I would say so far, that was the worst.

Anyone with nipple/lip/tat experience care to ease my fears? No negative comments, please, it's my damn body to decorate how I wish!

  • How to work with my doctor to get accurate diagnosis?

I was diagnosed as clinically depressed upon my release from a psychiatric hospital in 1999. I also got a diagnosis of post traumatic stress disorder from two major car accidents in five months. After doing some research online, I feel that I fit much better in other diagnosis categories, including bipolar/manic depression, borderline personality disorder, and a bunch of other personality disorders. I am currently on a break from cognitive behavioral therapy (it's called schema) due to a move, and I take 100mg of Zoloft. Anytime I've been on meds, it's only been one type, and it helps for a while but then wears off. Zoloft has been pretty good to me, I've been on it for well over a year and have felt more level for the most part. But I still have these horrible highs and lows, and I have alot of suicidal thoughts, which while I don't feel that I'm suicidal is annoying to have pictures of you killing yourself in your head all the time.

  • Resurgence of major depressive episode. Ideas?

I was diagnosed as 'clinically depresed' a long time ago, like 15 years ago. I feel I have more symptoms of BPD or bipolar II. I am currently being treated with Zoloft, 100mg a day, and seemed to be doing alright - not great, but alright - for quite some time.

Recently, I stopped taking birth control pills. I was taking Seasonale, which I was told by my obgyn was a low dose pill. This has coincided with a dramatic resurgence of many of my problems, including anxiety disorders, major mood swings, and suicidal idealogy. I have held a job for the past six weeks, but my job involves approaching people and asking them questions. Which I know find I cannot do without suffering a panic attack. Things had been going well at home, but of course my mood and anger towards everything is now jeopardizing that.

Has anyone had issues with birth control pills and depression like this?

  • Does a fetus have rights? Or is it an extension of the human?

A fetus is attatched to me. It is in my body. Therefore, it is mine to do with what I wish - it is merely a temporary extension of my being.

Where does it get rights? What section of our law books gives a fetus rights? Why doesn't the woman in whose body it is forming have rights? Do you think that 'pro-life = anti-abortion'? And, if so, doesn't 'anti-abortion = anti-womens' rights'? And when did a safe, legal medical procedure become trampling ground for Christian crusaders and a major politica platform?

Honestly would like opinions. To me, saying a fetus has rights is like saying my kidneys have rights. I'm interested in other people's thoughts.

  • I can't afford my financed car anymore. Can I trade it in without losing too much money?

I financed a 2005 Santa Fe. It has under 8k on it and it's KBB value is $17k, and I know I owe more than that on it. I have a high interest rate of 13% due to poor credit. Can I 'trade down' and save on monthly payments? I'm currently paying $550 a month, and need to cut it to around $300. I'm willing to get into a smaller or used car. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
