Airsoft gun as goose attack deterrant?
It's that time of year again when the Canadian Geese nest along the bike trail. I give them a wide berth but sometimes there just isn't enough room for their liking. To top it off they tend to interpret riding past them as a sign of fear prompting them to a full attack where they will hop on your back biting away with a good chance of knocking you off the bike. I've dealt with this enough to know which ones are too ornery for their own good and which ones aren't. I tried an air horn last year and it isn't very effective. Would an Airsoft pistol provide enough of a sting to deter an attack, but soft enough to not cause serious injury? (Damn Federal laws...) If so, which one? There are so many different types.
5 AnswersOther - Outdoor Recreation1 decade agoDAP 33 Glazing: How long until it can be put into 20-40 degree weather?
The can says not to apply it unless the glazing and the sash are over 50 degrees. No problem, done. Now that it is applied, can the window be hung outside until it skins enough to be painted? The can says nothing about required temps immediately after it is applied. Temps are expected to fluctuate between 20-40 degrees.
Would this be OK or might I encounter a problem?
2 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoHow to paint a newly glazed sash window?
I've had to rebuild an 90 yr old window sash that has rotted out due to years of neglect and tired paint. The exterior of the window is highly visible so to match the older windows I built the sash visually identical to the originals and will be glazing them old-school style.
I have DAP "33" glazing but it is oil based, the matching house paint is exterior latex. Can I prime/seal the glazing as one would if they were painting latex over oil based paint, or is this not going to work the same? (I'm aware that it takes a long time for the glazing to be paintable, which is why it is no longer the method of choice these days)
4 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoCan you buy a digital cable (Comcast) box?
I subscribe to comcast and have one TV set up with a rented Comcast box. I also have additional TVs set up for analog signals with no box because I don't use them often enough to justify renting a box. (some are used once/month, others no more than 5 times a year). Previously, the TVs getting the analog channels wouldn't get any premium channels, but they would get the basic cable fare which is all I really wanted. (i.e. Discovery, History, Nick, Cartoon Network, etc)
Well the available analog channels have been reduced to very basic network channels only. Is there a digital tuner I can purchase to get the basic cable channels that I used to have in analog? Or something else that might work in this situation?
BTW, I'm willing to make a one time purchase to avoid being strong-armed into renting boxes from Comcast. That offends me.
1 AnswerTVs1 decade agoHow can I tell if a male cat has been neutered?
I adopted a cat from a shelter and they said he was neutered. I have doubts due to:
1) My spayed female utterly hates him and is aggressive on sight.
2) After scuffles with the female, he has a strong cat musk scent which is occasionally left as a drop or two on the floor in a very thick clear liquid.
3) He wrestles with my neutered male in a very rough & tumble way. Not aggressive, just that very rough is normal to him.
4) I noticed later on that the adoption papers indicate he is a shorthair with a short tail although it has always been obvious to be a longhair with long tail, he definitely has some maine coon in his line somewhere.
I think the shelter mixed up their cats. How can I tell if he's been neutered? Going to the vet will cost $35 for the answer, I'd like to avoid that if there is an easier way. Thanx in advance!
30 AnswersCats1 decade agoCat does not cover his litter box mess?
First, a little background. We picked up a male cat from a shelter who had urinating issues, inappropriate places and a urine smell on the cat. We have 2 other cats. The male gets along with the new cat. The small female showed fear agression, but the larger new cat didn't seem terribly stressed by it as he can easily counter it. A blacklight showed some urine marks around the house, but it was more of a "mopping" as opposed to spraying. The new cat was placed on antibiotics and this made a big difference. He still has a tapeworm which is being addressed this week.
The problem now is that the new cat does not cover his litter box droppings. The poop (extra stinky due to tapeworm) and urine is rarely buried in litter making for a very smelly litterbox that is otherwise clean. We have 3 litter boxes, all large, covered and cleaned regularly.
My wife is at wits end with the smell, but the cat has a great personality and I dont want to send him back. Please help!
