DIFFICULT QUESTION: . Since 1950, how is the S&P-500 Stock Market Index able to grow about 3 TIMES FASTER than GDP? -- SEE BELOW --?
DIFFICULT ECONOMICS QUESTION:
The GDP represents the total value of all goods and services produced by all the people in the country. . The GDP, on average has grown about 3 percent per year, over the last 70 years.
The S&P Stock Market Index represents how the value of an investment (in 500 of the largest publically-traded U.S. Companies) grows from year to year. . The S&P index, on averge has grown about 10 percent per year, over the last 70 years.
So, here is the difficult question:
How is it possible for investors to continually -- over a span of 70 YEARS -- make money 3 TIMES FASTER than the general economy is increasing the wealth of the nation as a whole?
And why is the multiplier a factor of about 3 (more or less) -- and not 2 or 5 or 8 or whatever?
1 AnswerEconomics3 years agoLanguage Question: . Please explain some oddities regarding the suffix -tion, and the suffix -ment. . FULL QUESTION BELOW?
Here are three verbs which have some overlap and/or similarity in their meaning:
invest, speculate, gamble
The gerund and participle forms are:
investing, speculating, gambling
But when it comes to additional noun forms using the suffix -ment or -tion, things get really inconsistent:
investment [common]
investion [unused]
investation [unused]
specument [unused]
speculatement [unused]
speculation [common]
gamblement [unused]
gambulation [unused]
1 - Why did the word investment displace the possible alternatives investion and investation?
2 - Why did the word speculation displace the posible alternative of specument or speculatement?
3 - Moreover, why do neither one of the words gamblement and gambulation exist in common usage?
3 AnswersWords & Wordplay3 years agoWhat are some stock screeners that allow the user to type in 50 or 100 lines of your own code, to create a custom filter?
I am looking for a stock screener that can either be used in the standard mode by setting standard. cookie-cutter parameters.
--OR--
that can be configured with user-created custom filters (or plug-ins, or modules) that consist of 50 to 100 lines of user-created code (using Java, Python, Pascal, etc).
- For example, suppose I want the screener to return all stocks that are currently between 5 and 10 percent above their 200-day moving average.
- Or all stocks that have experienced a 30-percent increase in volume over the average volume of the past 10 days.
- Or suppose I want the screener to list all stocks that decreased in price by more than 15-percent during the first week in July.
Do I have to create my own screener from scratch to do stuff like this, or are there screeners available that are designed to allow the user to insert his own, custom-created, plug-in filters?

And a Second Question, if I may:
If you have an "emotional attachment" or "spiritual attachment" or "science-based attachment" to your answer...
...Would you be okay with marrying someone who strongly holds the opposite answer?
...Or would you prefer to marry someone who has the same answer as you?
...Or would you have no strong preference either way?
--------------------
The top-line question is a much more general question than "Does God exist?", although some may initially tend to jump to the conclusion that the two questions are the same.
The question lays claim to being one of the most profound philospohical questions that can be asked...
...but avoids the problem of having to define the word "God", leaving only the challenge of defining the two words "accidental" and "deliberate".
It may even be possible to argue that the answer is "both" or "neither".
Whatever answers are offered, I do not see how anyone can prove that their answer to the question is the the correct one. . But, nevertheless, I still find it to be a most interesting question -- maybe the most interesting question.

15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality3 years agoDoes God know EXACTLY, or only APPROXIMATELY, what percentage of all people are going to Hell? -- SEE BELOW --?
[Please READ EVERYTHING BELOW before answering, because it gets very interesting further down.]
God must know at least approximately, right? . Otherwise, how would he know that way over 50 percent are going to Hell...
13 Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. [Matthew, Chapter 7]
14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
If God only knows only approximately but not exactly, is that basically similar to the insurance company knowing approximately how many people will die this year, but not exactly?
In other words: . Once God / Jesus observes that most people at the time of Jesus are going to Hell [the initial, small sample population], it must be pretty accurate to project that a similar percentage of people throughout all of history [the total population] are going to Hell.
Here's the interesting part:
God, being all powerful, could have "made up the Test" to create whatever percentage He preferred. God could have made the percentages any of the following:
A) 1 percent Heaven, 99 percent Hell [kinda like what the Bible says]
B) 20 percent Heaven, 80 percent Hell
C) 50 percent Heaven, 50 percent Hell
D) 80 percent Heaven, 20 percent Hell
E) 99 percent Heaven, 1 percent Hell
For His Own Reasons, God leaned toward Choice A.
Any ideas as to why?
Thanks for your answers. . P.S, I enjoy math, I think God does, too.

6 AnswersPolitics3 years agoCarlton Pearson 1994 *There is no hell* - What had he been reading in the 80's & early 90's? . Were any New Age authors a key influence?
Carlton Pearson seems to portray his theological shift as quite sudden or instantaneous; . this is from Wikipedia...
"After watching a television program about the wretched conditions of people suffering and dying from the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, and considering the teachings of his church that non-Christians were going to Hell, Pearson believed he had received an epiphany from God. He stated publicly that he doubted the existence of Hell as a place of eternal torment."

But -- What books had he been reading in the 80's & early 90's? . Was he already reading & assimilating any of the increasingly popular New Age or New Thought books prior to unveiling his "There is no hell" doctrine?
Does anyone know, factually and SPECIFICALLY, which books he might have been reading that might have strongly influenced his new doctrine, the "Gospel of Inclusion"?
