  • Help! My son just started sucking his thumb!?

Please help me! My son is almost three years old. He has NEVER sucked his thumb or used a pacifier in his entire life, ever. Just recently my mother got him hooked on Curious George. He loves it, and I have no problem with this show. Not to long after he started watching this show he started sucking on his thumb and fingers. I told him to stop and he did for a while, but now he is doing it more and more. I asked him why he does that and he said Curious George does. I told him to stop and asked him if mommy or daddy sucks their thumbs and he said no, so I told him that he needs to stop too. His dad took a job last year where he is gone for weeks at a time, but he didn't start sucking his thumb until a few months ago. I'm not so sure it's related. Can anyone please give me some tips on how to get him to stop? I really don't want him to suck his thumb, it's something hes never done in his entire life and I don't want him to start now. Any tips would help, thank you so much.

  • I have several questions about Christmas. Please help!?

Well, first off I would like to know how we went from, celebrating Jesus' birthday, to a man in a red suit giving us presents.

Second, why do we get Christmas trees anyway? My Grandma told me that in the Bible it says for us to not have a tree, so why do we use them? Also, why do we give presents and have Christmas stockings?

And where did Santa get his name from? He's St. Nicholas (Nick), Santa Claus and Chris Kringle. Why does he have so many names and where did they come from?

There are so many things I am hearing about Christmas and stuff from the Bible, if someone, or people could tell me what's going on, that would be a great help. Thank you and have a great Christmas!!

  • How could I make my study habbits more green?

I'm in college right now, and I use note cards to study. It's the only thing that works for me. I once studied for a test with out note-cards, and failed. My problem is, I would like to be as eco-friendly as possible, and I know going through several hundred note cards (already) and going to go through several hundred more for the rest of the time I'm in college is not to good for the environment. Aside from buying recycled note cards, what else can I do to 'green' my study habits? The environment is something that I really care about, and I try not to do things that will harm the earth, but I want to get the best grades possible in school. Any ideas?

  • Help!! I have a crazy soon-to-be Father In law!!?

So, I'm engaged. The man I'm with I have been with him for 6 years. His father has NEVER liked me. He was always trying to get my boyfriend to break up with me, or leave me. His father used to have a drug problem, but has since cleaned up. His father does nothing but talk bad about me, my skills as a mother, says that I can't handle raising my son and going to school and is concerned that I won't be able to handle raising my son and working when I get a job after I graduate college. When I am on the phone with him he goes on these rants talking trash about me, his ex-wife (my boyfriends mother) and even his own son! Then he tells me that I need to talk to and treat him with respect and to stop dog talking other people because he doesn't need all that negativity in his life. Now my boyfriend recently got a job where he travels for long periods of time. When I talk to him he tells me to deal with it and not say anything to him. I don't think that's fair! Why do I have to sit there and listen to his father trash talk me?

My question is, what do I do? There is no talking to his father. All he does is yell at you and twist everything that you say. He won't sit down and have a civil conversation with any one and never lets you speak. My boyfriend sticks up for him most of the time and says that when he gets back in town that we will sit down and talk about it. I've started to record my conversations (or messages because I won't answer the phone for his dad any more) So that my boyfriend can read what his dad says to me. I'm at my breaking point and I don't know what to do. How do you handle a situation like this? I don't want to admit it, but his father really is breaking us up and I'm almost ready to leave him just so I don't have to deal with it any more.

So, what should I do? Is there anyway to talk to his father and get him to stop? Please any suggestions or support is welcome. Thank you so much for answering and reading my long problem.

  • I lost a lot of weight when I got sick...?

I have been trying to lose weight for a few years, and recently got very serious about it and lost two pounds. Then my son got a real nasty stomach bug that then got passed to me. I lost 7 pounds in a week! I know that it not a healthy rate to lose weight, but how can I keep it off since I lost it anyway? I'm still not 100% because of this bug, and I haven't ate in 3 days because of it (aside from crackers) But I would really like to keep this weight off because this is the lightest I've been in two years and it is a good motivator. Any tips, suggestions or ideas? Thanks.

  • Why am I so emotional?

After I had my son 2 1/2 years ago, I cry about EVERYTHING! When I hear about kids getting shot in the news paper, or like today, I saw a man who's hat said Vietnam Veteran, and I almost started crying in the store. What is the matter with me? Any tips on how to stop doing that? Thanks!

  • What languange should I learn in College?

Ok, here is my problem. I live in an area that has a lot of Spanish speaking people in it. I have ALWAYS wanted to learn how to speak German. I'm not sure if it is because I love the way it sounds when people talk in the language, or if it is because my family is from Germany and I think it would be cool to speak the language of my family before me (also, I'm sure it will help in my genealogy). But my boyfriend said that I should learn Spanish. He said that it is pointless to learn German because NO ONE around here speaks it and he said that I will get further in my career (Financial Planner) if I speak Spanish instead of German.

So my question is, what do you guys think? Learn a language that I've always wanted to learn but might not be able to use to often, OR learn a language that I really have no desire to learn but will most likely be able to use often.

  • What should I do about my scared cat?

My cat is going to be 1 years old in January. On Saturday night he was sleeping in a chair that is right in front of a speaker. My parents were watching tv when a person started turning into an alien and it was really loud and scared my cat to death. He stayed in my parents room for the rest of the night, then finally moved into a different back bedroom by Sunday night. He stopped eating and using his litter box. He peed in the bed room that night. Monday morning he finally made it into the dining room, but would not go in the living room. We carried him down stairs to use the bathroom, which he did, and he finally made it back up stairs. I went to carry him down stairs to use the bathroom again, when I found that he pooped on the table that he keep his food on. Any one know what to do to help him?? He is terrified of everything now, and I don't know what to do. Please answer if you actually know something about cats.
